The metal harbor stage sent me into panic. I’ve been trying to speedrun that in SA2 to get the A rank since I was 12 and now I’m 21. When sonic gives you PTSD, that’s how you know they finally did it right
Some of the footage on that 1-2 S rank run looked super clean, especially running on top of the structure at the end. Also 10/10 amogus drawing.
Unironically, alpharad getting hyperfixated on one level in the beginning of the game is more telling to me that I’ll like this game than probably every review all those game journalists make combined.
tbf yeah, the fact he was willing to try it again and again shows that it must've been fun to a degree.

I agree. If it made him truly desire to get that S Rank then I think it's a good sign. I've been a fan of Sonic for years and have just been disappointed since Forces. I liked Generations, and I grew up with the glorious Sonic Colors (have yet to try Ultimate, but I'm likely to eventually). It took me until June 2022 to finally end up watching the Sonic movie and the sequel too (I binged those bitches back to back!), and *holy shit* they were _amazing!_ I definitely had a good experience at my uncle's house those four days (even if it took half that time to finally figure out how to get connected to their wifi). But now seeing the praises people are giving this game so far is really getting me pumped for the future of the Blue Blur, and I hope this means he's finally getting a proper resurgence in popularity (the song I'm Here is kickass! It reminds me of an amazing and inspirational anime opening and I love it for that).

The funniest part about all this to me is that flying a bunch of people out to Hawaii to playtest a game feels like exactly the sort of thing that Alpharad would come up with as a video idea.

The funniest part is - 1-2 is not actually that hard. It's just that "fastest" way is not what you actually think. Skipping some of these circles is actually faster than using them
Just did the level about 10 times, and managed to complete it in exactly 55 seconds. Would share how I did it, but I'm already forgetting it. Will go through the pain again to remember if someone really needs the help.
Edit: Recently managed to make it in 54.5 seconds. Same track, just a bit more optimized
Honestly if there was like an extra 5-10 sec, 1-2 wouldn't be that hard to S-rank. Other hard levels had some leeway in how much time is saved if you optimized it w/o the airboost homing glitch but 1-2 is super tight as hell.
The ability to draw in this game basically makes this game a 10/10

Hi I'm from the future and I can confirm that Alpha's childlike glee and interaction with the game, aside from the game itself, is as honest of an impression as you can get.
Don’t want to show off, more like give tips. I have found out the mechanics and how this game technically works in accordance to speed.
The reason the level was so difficult is because of the fact that in a Sonic game we are conditionalized to think that the top-most route in a sonic game is considered the “fastest” route.
That however is not true in Sonic Frontiers 1-2.
The dash rings and the springs and your own boost speed is technically making you slower.
The fastest forms of travel are actually mostly the dash tracks. They are the only form of consistent momentum and when you hit multiple of them at a time they make you go faster.
In Frontiers 1-2, the speed works differently when running than in the air, which, honestly, I actually love about this game because Sonic is meant to run fast, not fly fast, which is what everyone is trying to do.
If you want to know, Dash tracks are the speedrunner’s best friend and it allowed me to get a 00:53.00 on 1-2.
