- The Gouldian Finch is a brilliantly colored and unmistakable bird, with bright green back, yellow belly, purple chest, blue nape, black throat, and a very light bill; the face can be red, yellow, or black. It can also be known as Painted Finch, Purple-breasted Finch, and Rainbow Finch. The juveniles are dull olive-green on the upperparts, paler on the underparts, with a bill paler than most other similar small finch-like birds. It feeds on the ground; when disturbed, it flies up towards the trees, displaying a flash of bright green back. It inhabits open grassy woodlands in northeastern Western Australia.
