I love this! Easy hack for filling the containers... Group them together in a bunch standing up and wrap a rubber band around them. You won't have to worry about them falling over ❤️ I've been making my own "chapstick" for over a decade! I can't live without it 😄
This video is 2 years old but thank you so much! I spent a good time finding a simple and easy recipe that only requires the bare minimum of ingrediants, but I just couldn't figure out how and in what order/proportion to add the honey in a lipbalm, I used shae butter instead of the tallow and accidentally use a bit too much honey, but it still worked out! I made a small batch because my past failure is still fresh, now that it's a success, I can make more for friends and family
I have tried and its amazing i thought the honey wouldn't mix well but not at all the final product was great and the result was amazing on my dried lips thank you so much Love from Algeria ❤❤
I tried making this recipe for use with paper lipbalm tubes. What I learned is that honey stays suspended when the liquid cools to 113 degrees. It's recommended that you fill paper lipbalm tubes at around 135-145 for optimal results. I didn't know that until I filled the tubes at 135 and the honey separated. I could just use little tins but I really wanted to use paper tubes. Anyway to make this work? If not what is a good replacement to make the lipbalm glide nicely, castor oil? Using the tallow and beeswax alone does not feel nice going on.
Hey Marissa, thanks for this recipe I just tried it. So far it seems wonderfully velvety. I'm wondering how long the shelf life is for this if I'm thinking about making gifts ahead for Christmas time. Thanks so much for all you do.
I have been using you whipped tallow balm for quite a while now,and love it so much.I even started making for friends, and they also love it and ask for a "refill" when they are finished with it. I use infused camellia oil, which does wonders. I would love to make a wrinkle stick (don't really have much, but towards the end of the day my face gets a bit tired, and I feel like I look older),something like Kahi multi balm (korean skincare).Unfortunately, this product has ingredients that I'm not happy with. Do you,by any chance, have a recipe for something like this,or maybe this stick could be use for that too. Thank you.
@@MsBoma24 I got mine from Plant Therapy. It is wonderful, and I believe the best oil for anti aging.I used to use rose hip seed oil, argan oil, marula oil,but none worked as good as this.I bought the 16 oz which I infused with anti aging herbs at 95° F (I used Anova cooker for it).Everyone that I made it for saw differences in their skin tones extremely fast. You can't use too much though,as is a bit greasy, but it will be absorbed into the skin.
@@MsBoma24 Just realized the camellia oil from Plant Therapy is not organic, but cold pressed.I plan on buying it from Mountain Rose Herbs next time when I will have a bigger order,as it's organic, cold pressed and unrefined, though more expensive.
you can buy powdered honey. I put powdered honey and bee pollen in the oil. It stays in the oil for a while until it dissolves. I don't heat it because I want to keep all the nutrients.
This looks great! Maybe this is a dumb question, but can I use store bought grassfed tallow? Or do I need to make my own? Not sure about the refining process.
I will definitely be trying this recipe! I have already contacted a local farm to see if they sell their beef fat, particularly the leaf fat. Waiting now for a reply. I will be ordering chapstick tubes soon as well. A couple of questions. Is local honey best to use? I have some Manuka honey from New Zealand on hand. It’s delicious and so many wonderful medicinal properties! Also, in your video for rendering tallow you use an organic cotton cheese cloth. Do you purchase from Amazon? My husband and I got rid of Amazon last year due to strong convictions. I imagine I will have to order directly from different companies. Thanks again for all your info, I really love watching all your videos! ❤️
Manuka honey is great! Yes, I got my organic cheesecloth on Amazon, but I'm sure you could find some another place with a google or duck duck go search :)
I’ve been hearing that even though honey is self preserving, because of the water content in it, when adding it to other ingredients you need a preservative or you risk the growth of mold, bacteria and fungus. Have you had any issues with this or do you have any thoughts on this?
The plastic tubes in your link are no longer available. Wondering if there is something specific to look for in buying tubes for lip balm,or if it’s best to use containers with a screw on lid? I see you have videos using both versions. What’s the difference? Is one better than the other?
I’ve been having problems with the honey separating after the balms are made. And it gets all sticky and messy. What if I substitute it with brown sugar?
I don't see that you got an answer to your question, but, there used to be squeeze tubes in camping section. But that would probably be way too large for lip balm size?
What happens if I make this lip balm and by the time it's in the tube, it's separating? I tried stirring it as I go but I'm noticing that when it cooled, the bottom was a honey gold and the top was more tallow. I'm hoping it'll be fine when I roll it up and it's not too sticky haha!
Oh, sorry to hear that! I try to prevent this by mixing longer and waiting for it to cool more before pouring, but I'm not sure about if it's already poured. Hopefully it will still work okay!
Soft tallow from trim fat will often have a gritty texture. Leaf fat is much smoother. Chilling the tallow quickly (like in a deep freeze) will keep the fat molecules from separating.
Thanks! Here are two places to buy tallow online: shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=557754&u=2281503&m=51217&urllink=&afftrack= and grasslandbeef.com/?affId=217057 Hope that helps!
OMG seriously $15 for beef fat. Come on people. Slaughter Hou ees throw extra beef fat away and thus company charging $15 plus shipping Unfreaking believable
Definaely not vegan but yea, animal fat is the closest thing to human skin and therefore is very nourishing as well as moisturizing. I'm just concerned about it's shelf life?

I have used tallow for all my homemade recipes.. perfect choice ❤
Could you use cocoa butter instead of the tallow ?

Do you need to keep these refrigerated after or can you just have them at room temp?
Thank you for this recipe!

How does this do in the pocket? Does the lip balm liquify when carried around in a pants pocket for example?
what is a sub for tallow? coconut oil?
Love this thanks!!!
How many sticks can this recipe make?:)
Where did you get the boiler set up?

You can use store bought tallow. If it's softer, add a little more beeswax.

I have heard tallow can smell beefy. I was wondering what this tallow smells like when you put the peppermint essential oils in it?
Actually if done right it doesn't smell beefy. It needs cooked down on really low temps and very slow.
How long until these products go bad?
I find them to be very shelf stable, for months at least :)
Have a nice day!
You too!
Mine is also a little gritty? Sorry I kept asking questions in different places. I’m new to TH-cam.

This is cool, but...tallow? Odd choice. It does moisturize but it smells ungodly bad, and it can clog your pores.
Tallow won’t clog your pores, it’s the last thing to clog your pores
