In a few years this recording will be 30 years old.. the fact that this many people still listen to it today shows that this piece is, and always will be, a classic.
I love brass instruments, and this is easily the second best rendition of Canon I have ever heard. Best rendition is the one I heard when my wife was walking down the aisle on our wedding day.
Fredric Millis is the Trumpet player 2nd from the right. Ronald Romm is the other Trumpet player, Charles Dallenbach is Tuba, Eugene Watts is Trombone but in this he's playing Baritone, and the French Horn player's name I forgot...
Dalian Bryan actually i believe it is a baritone, and BIG G is right, the euphonium has an extra valve so it has four valves however the instrument Eugene guy was holding has three valves so it is a baritone. And btw I'm French Horn/Mellophone. Even I know this and I am not a tuba/baritone
The Schoen you don't know. I'm an actual euphonium player. The difference between a euphonium and a baritone is not boiled down to number of valves. There baritones with 4 valves and euphoniums with 3 (although they are not as common). A euphonium is simply more conical than a baritone which is, although not completely cylindrical, a lot more cylindrical than a euphonium. It is also worth noting that this euphonium has 4 valves with 3+1 system. The 4 valve is engaged by the left index finger. Literally every professional and college level player uses this system. Long story short: this is a euphonium.
I love how they put some comedy into the music. I went to a concert of theirs and it was great. I love these guys. Nobody could ever be as good as them.
What a fantastic video! My father was an instrumental music teacher for 40 years and a fine trumpet player. He was an amazing positive influence, which led me to take up trumpet and cornet at 10 and brought me many years of wonderful playing experiences throughout primary school and college. One of my favorite playing experiences was senior year of high school, getting to play this very arrangement in Wind Ensemble and duetting that beautiful melody/countermelody of the 1st Trumpet and 1st Cornet parts with my friend Drew. Dad and practiced religiously together and I know Drew put equal time in because it was just magic when we were finally onstage performing it. One of my favorite audience memories was going to see the Canadian Brass when they played the NJMEA Convention at the Sheraton in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and they brought the same warmth, good humor, and skill to that show that they present in this video. A week from today, New Year's Day 2023, will mark one since Dad passed. Having dedicated more than half his life to music education, he inspired dozens of his students to pursue careers in musical academia, professional music careers, and a lifelong love of music in all. For some of his students, band class provided a refuge and safe haven from problems at home, problems with other kids, that little piece of happiness that could sustain them. For others, it gave them the opportunity to pursue a creative outlet and do something fun when they otherwise might've gotten involved with an ill sort and started their lives on the wrong side of the law. One such student is now an honorable member of the venerable New Jersey State Police, perhaps the most respected state law enforcement agency in the nation, and credited my father and band class as keeping himself and his siblings out of trouble as youths. Even though the pain of losing Dad is difficult to endure at times, and I'm writing this as hot tears burn down my face, they are a mix of grief for his passing, longing and sadness for wont of him being here, and the fiercest of pride for the thousands of lives he brought the joy of music to over his four decades of teaching. There are no words for how much good he brought to so many young young lives, and he will always be my hero. I love you, Dad, Merry Christmas, and thank you for being the most amazing father and teacher. John P. Swoboda, BA/MA Music Education, Musical Conducting, 1945-2022

As a tuba player I found it very amusing because the majority of our music is repetitive but alas it's one of the most important parts. Not the most important but one of the most in my opinion. Indeed he does rock and he can play his face off!
This is one of their best; The Tenor Tuba (Euphonium) blends well with the Horn and Tuba; would be interesting to compare this song with a Trombone playing the Euphonium part.
I can listen to this song over and over for hours at a time. I absolutely love it! I'm trying to learn the tuba part by ear just so I can play it over and over again.
That dissonance was created so perfectly. No better arrangement could have been made of this song. Brass is by far the most pleasant if not the best instruments ever!
I'm a woodwind player, but I love brass quartets and quintets. They are so cool and very lovely. My favorite member of the brass family is the french horn. I would definitely want to play that.
The Good Sir playing Tuba obviously obsesses with getting to Tim Horton's...Tim's Bits? I'm a Canadian loving Yank....Man the tone and nuance played by these chaps is Stunning!!!! Safe Home to All, Jim Varnier.
Doesn't anyone realize this is an homage to one of the greatest session electric bass AND tuba players Herbie Flowers who is here the gardner that Charles enlist to fill in for him as tuba player?

+poldhana tumsatan As a tuba player, it is not that hard to rock back and forth. With the marching variant, it is even easier to move with it. When I am playing my sousaphone, I some times in my drill have to jump while playing. With the size, the mouth can move in the mouthpeice. +DeeeFoo as someone with experience on both trombone and saxophone it definitely has the potential to get in the way, but its not hard to get used to playing around it. as with any activity that is done where facial hair can get in the way you learn to adapt. of course that said i prefer to keep a closer shave when i play
+DeeeFoo I am a trombonist, and I have had at various times a moustache. As Rich said, it can, but it has never for me. Ive said it a million times - best rendition of the Canon...and best music video ever.
it depends on the mouthpiece for example it will be annoying for a tuba player because it mouthpiece, but in the extremely small mouthpiece of the french horn it wont affect too much, no effect in woodwinds and sax i think.
As a tuba player, I love that guy, a great musician, and one that goofs around, and still can play
