    Dear Phill, you did a really great job and it's so cool that you showed the whole process of mixing in the app and the final result so we can hear it in our environment and compare how it was before. I LOVE THIS SONG - THANKS for sharing

      Thanks ever so much. You can find the full song if you like, Taking Exception from the album Mid Life Crisis. The published version has Karl's vocal replacing my guide one that is used in this demo.

    Very interesting, picked up quite a few tips from this preso , thanks heaps! Subbed. Never thought of minimising the ambience in the Nx plug, the side chain in the Baby Audio plug, lots of other little tips. Good stuff!

    Hi Phil, Thanks for the excellent review! I have four of the Nx plugins. I really liked your guide vocal on the track. Your voice reminds me of John Wetton from Asia. Have a good one!

    This is a great track. Yes, your vocals are reminiscent of John Wetton. That bass tone is epic! Can you tell me what you used, what bass and the signal chain? I know it’s been a while but hopefully you’ll see this. Thanks!

    Headphone eq.? Did you a use headphone eq during your original non cla mixdown? If not wouldn’t the headphone eq enabled on the cla Nx make you feel like you have to re eq the entire song?

    • @PhilPendlebury
      @PhilPendlebury  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There should be no headphone EQ on the master bus on export. Of course for this video it had to be on the master out otherwise no one would hear it. This is explained in detail in this section of the video (please watch): th-cam.com/video/UtXtPhTk3CE/w-d-xo.html

    • @weenbeanproductonswbp8401
      @weenbeanproductonswbp8401 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhilPendleburyI understand that the cla Nx should be muted before export but my thought was that if a headphone eq purpose is to flatten the headphones to a reference level then shouldn’t it be used as part of your mixdown eq. Seems I need to explain this further. Now that your headphone eq has flattened the response of your headphone it should mean that your mix may sound harsher and require essential adjustments. Then once adjustments are made then the cla Nx can be muted

    • @PhilPendlebury
      @PhilPendlebury  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@weenbeanproductonswbp8401 I see your point but the answer is no. The point is that you are "mixing" with a flat sound but when the export/render is done the sound is already flat (as it is internal).
      The only EQs that should be exported are what you have applied. You don't want everyone hearing the sound of the correction made to your headphones.
      Maybe an analogy will help:
      You are editing a photograph.
      Imagine your computer monitor display is faulty and there is not enough red being displayed.
      You can increase the red on your monitor controls so the colours look "flat" and balanced to you.
      Then you edit the photo and save it.
      You look at the picture on another computer it looks fine. But it would not have been if you had instead added all that extra red to the picture itself.
      So the photograph is the equivalent to the audio track
      The computer monitor adjustment is the equivalent to NX
      I hope that helps.
      TLDR: Definitely not. :-)

    I've been using this plugin today on my mix , and my drums sound a bit phasey on it .. on both the sub mix and mains ...

    • @PhilPendlebury
      @PhilPendlebury  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. Could be many things causing that. How do the drums in my video sound in comparison?

    • @JimboJones99
      @JimboJones99 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhilPendlebury I'll compare them when I'm in the studio next .. I left my "Ambience" at default .. I should turn it down like you did ... I think that might contribute to it ... But this plugin has made me re-mix my drums which is good.

    • @PhilPendlebury
      @PhilPendlebury  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JimboJones99 Yes I maybe should have gone into more detail about why I use less ambience. More video coming soon I guess. :-)

    I'm using this plugin from yesterday. I have noticed that my stereo perception now is more narrow. If I play the same file without plugin my stereo perception is more wide. Why I can feel the same sensation with a drum roll for example?

    • @PhilPendlebury
      @PhilPendlebury  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, there are 2 answers:
      1. You are simply not using it correctly. It is is for mixing/monitoring in headphones and must NOT be applied to the final mix. A suggestion would be to watch the video completely.
      2. You are using it correctly but not understanding that the idea is to emulate the sound of external speakers which will never have the same stereo width as just straight into your ears via headphones.
      I hope that helps.

    • @VincentVegardSvart
      @VincentVegardSvart ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PhilPendlebury thanks so much for reply. I'm using it on Reaper Monitor FX. I'm thinking I'm on second point you explain. In headphones the stereo seems more wide while they simulate the monitor sound and position on Cla Rooms. On the other way, it's sound very deep, now I can feel the reverb on the right way

    • @PhilPendlebury
      @PhilPendlebury  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VincentVegardSvart Yes you got it I think. Stereo field with plain headphones will always sound very wide. I think you have to experiment a little. See how your mix will sound when you export without the plugin. See how you feel about it etc. Thanks again. Appreciated. 🙂

      It makes a huge difference but not needed like Phil said. But it’s highly recommended, the psychoacoustics really makes you forget you have headphone on. I’ve set up my speakers where the distance is about where I hear the sounds should come from, it gives me that visual impression and I really forget.

      @@rickybrenay6249 Thanks , yeah if it makes a huge difference then it sounds like its needed most likely i will order it ! i spent $$$ more on comps & eq's so a 100 for bundle price is good! also my room is somewhat treated amateur style so it kinda makes sense! Thanks again for your input ! much appreciated!👍
