The solo starts when your pall-bearers just let you go into your grave, and you fall down a hole deep enough for the solo to play out from a bluetooth speaker hidden in your coffin. Nobody remembers digging down that far, and the echoes of of the solo haunt the attendees. Then, just as slowly as it had faded, the solo comes back as your coffin jettisons out with a rocket. Again, nobody remembers setting any of this up. Several hundred feet up the rocket explodes, scattering you and your coffin a half mile out and declaring you "The Free-est Bird."

As someone who learned harmonica from my great grandma when I was a wee lass - HOLY FUCK.

@@doodlebobbeh8836 Oh he for sure was. Even I noticed it and I know little to nothing about harmonica. I'm pretty killer on a jaw harp though which uses some of the same techniques when it comes to breathing. Just takes practice. BTW yes I do a jaw harp is drastically easier to play than a harmonica.

@@doodlebobbeh8836 They're cheap and fun. I highly recommend the Austrian jaw harps that come in 3 different types. Tenor Alto and Soprano. Very easy to learn. Takes like 5 minutes to learn. BTW Don't get the thick Snoopy type. Just google "snoopy jaw harp". That type is terrible. You'll ruin your teeth with them. Don't buy anything that looks like it.
The fun thing about harmonicas is that you can play them on the inhale as well as the exhale.
I like how he doesn't waste your time by talking about absolutely nothing for 10 minutes before he starts playing. Just gets straight to the point and played us the fuck out. You've definitely earned a like from me.

The thing that makes this solo so difficult on guitar is not the technique, but the fact that you need arms of steel to last the entire solo. Replacing arms with lungs, I have no idea how this man even survived this solo on harmonica. Respect.

If you weren't already blown away by how insanely impressive this is... It's NOT a guitar SOLO, it's a guitar TRIO. The three guitarists in Lynyrd Skynyrd TRADE-OFF PARTS to make the "solo" happen, and this guy is ACTUALLY doing it SOLO.

That's actually not correct. The studio version is ALL Allen Collins playing along with himself. Live, Allen and Ed King, or Allen and Steve Gaines would dual on it. But in 1975 when Ed left the group, Allen would do the whole thing himself live, not dualing of course, but just playing a single part from it. Gary Rossington, the 3rd guitarist, plays slide on the main part, then rhythm on the solo part. He's using a Gibson SG that the strings are raised off the fretboard on and the B string also tuned to G. So, he's got 2 strings tuned to G. He's not playing any of the solo on that. :D These days, it's Rickey Medlock and Sparky Matejka that do the solo live. That's not to take away from the incredible talent of this young man playing the harmonica, it's pretty amazing, but just wanted to set some things straight on your comment! Have a good one!

As someone who's pretty good at harmonica, I can tell you for a fact.... this shit is almost impossible to play. I am absolutely blown away at how accurate it is. Also for anyone wondering, part of how he manages to achieve this is that he's using his own custom harmonica that he designed! Normal harmonicas use "Richter" tuning, but Will Wilde's harmonica is tuned for major/minor Pentatonic, which gives one the potential to sound a lot more like a guitar. Also, I just learned this and I'm going to buy one from his website right now :D

Rumor has it his lungs are so strong that he once killed a man at 249 yards with a spitball.
You play notes on a harmonica by exhaling AND by inhaling. There is no circular breathing happening here.

The fact that Allen Collins could do this solo live on his guitar every night without his fingers falling off really makes you appreciate how impressive it is to see it done on a harmonica, note for note. The breath control, skill and focus are amazing.
The guitar solo really isn't that impressive, lots of repeating pull offs. But to nail it here is impressive on harmonica. But if you really want to be blown away by guitar check out tosin abasi

The fact he did it for countless gigs before he recorded it shows that practice makes perfect. The producer Al Kooper thought Collins was so on top of it that he had him double it and the rest is rock n roll history

If I did not read the title, I would've thought it was a bloody clean guitar cover. Absolutely insane, I'm still in disbelief.
It sounds more like a guitar than a harmonica about half the time (particularly the high notes) but the slower parts sounds very harmonica-y to me.
I'm convinced his huge arm muscles are actually spare lungs.
This is the most breathtaking harmonica performance I've seen.

Impressive...the parting of the Red Sea was a miracle, this guy is a close second.
Now I could be wrong. But for those of you wondering how he isn't passing out, it's due to a technique called "Circular breathing." basically it's a technique where you are using your mouth to hold air as well. So you push out the air from your mouth using your cheeks and tongue while you use your nose to breathe in new air. I used to play saxophone and circular breathing was this technique that was incredibly difficult to learn but could make things like this solo possible without having any like noticeable breaths. It's tricky because now you have to learn how to exhale and inhale at the same time essentially. But it's possible. Kudos to Will here because holy shit he makes it look easy if I'm correct on what he's doing.

The fact that more than I couple times I could swear it sounded more like a guitar than what I normally attribute to a harmonica absolutely stuns me.

What people don't get is that the harmonica was the original lead instrument in the blues, usually played through a custom mic and amp combo. Then Les Paul came along, :)

I can't believe this is real. And I don't mean it in a “Oh, this must be fake” way, but even if I saw this in a live performance, I would still have a very hard time believing it because of how amazing it is. It almost sounds like Lynyrd Skynyrd was going to do the solo on harmonica but there wasn't anyone this good at the time, so they had to settle for guitars. You're really bloody good!

As someone who simply messes around with the harmonica and figures out basic tunes…I passed out three times just watching this. Absolutely incredible.
I have only put my mouth to a harmonica once and I am literally out of breath. This was impeccable.
