I have been taking Luke's course for a couple of months. He is an excellent teacher and his lessons are a lot of fun. I took up the harmonica just a few months ago at age 90, so almost anyone can enjoy this wonderful instrument.

I really like the way Luke addresses some of the issues beginners have such as putting the harp at a 90 degree position and lowering it until the note is hit. These tips can be really helpful. Low Rider is a good choice for learning notes at the end. It’s easy to follow and a recognizable song for most anyone.

Holy crap that tilt up + lower lip thing is MAGICAL. I was trying the straight on lip purse for days and could barely play any single notes, and always with great difficulty. But with your technique I was playing remarkably easy and doing Low Rider in 30 minutes! Thank you!!

Wow, Ivy! That's great news. So glad it helped. Yeah, the tilt was how I got my first single note too!

I have tried and failed numerous times to start learning harmonica, always giving up because I couldn't isolate single notes. WHY DOES NO ONE ELSE EVER SAY TO TILT THE THING UPWARD?!?!? Finally I have some confidence that I can learn this instrument, thank you so much!

I watched a bunch of tutorials and this is the one that clicked with me. After 10 minutes of practice i can finally do single notes. It's the semi pucker explanation that helped. Basically I press the harmonica against the top lips and mouth and only adjust the lower lips. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much I was having a hard time, learning anything from all these people doing jazz stuff that it frustrated me. Lowrider is more my kinda music and speed which made it fun to learn and because of how you explained it i got it my first try, I messed up with when to blow in and out a couple of times, but i finally got it! Thanks for the video, and step by step instructions, I can play the harmonica now! Well at least my first song, all thanks to you.
      Much Love,

I have been playing the harmonica casually for many years (i.e. with no instruction - my apologies to my family) and I’ve seen a lot of “how to” videos. This short tutorial just taught me more in a few minutes than hours of other online videos did combined. Your video is a revelation in it’s ability to really TEACH! You’d think the goal of any instructional video would be to present the material in a clear, concise and friendly manner. Most are the opposite. Teaching is an art and your video is a perfect example for others to follow. Don’t EVER stop! Your help has improved my harmonica tremendously, I (and definitely my family) thank you for it! I’ll watch whatever you produce, Luke!

I bought a harp a while ago, meant to learn, even have a mate who teaches, but didn't get around to it. Since lockdown I started watching another TH-cam tutorial. It was OK, learnt a couple of scales, but not much else. Nothing to get excited about. This video was in the suggestions to the side of it. This was a game changer for me. Lots of great tips and to learn a song (that I know) was mind-blowing. I'm not quite there with 'Low Rider', but I'll practice until I am. Such an informative video. Thank you so much!

My Dad bought me a Marine Band when I was little. He and my 4 brothers would always jam, and I wanted in!
Dad taught me tongue blocking and scales, but sadly NO blues.
Now, decades since I've picked up a harp, someone has given me a Hohner Blues Harp in the key of G, of which I can find hardly any songs for OR instruction outside of mostly just blues riffs (I'm practicing!), so THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!!

One of the things I chose from my Grandfathers house after he passed was his Hohner chromonica 280 C harmonica. I have great memories of him playing when I was a kid & I always loved listening to him. I’ve had his harmonica for a few years now and I have always wanted to learn how to play it. However I could never seem to find tutorials that were for the absolute beginner that I was. At any rate, even though this lesson is not for the kind of harmonica I have I found this video lesson to be the best that I have come across, it has been very helpful, Thank you

This video is great!!! I recently won a harmonica and figured I need to learn how to play it. Used your video to grasp a little harmonica theory before trying to play for the very first time on a couple of mountain tops (which is the reason why I won the harmonica in the first place). Gave this video credit in my video description 😉

    • @Harmonicacom

Yes, most likely, the high ringing is because the back of your tongue is up near your hard palette like when you say “K.” Try dropping your jaw and making an “awww” vowel shape.

My harmonica just came today and this is the first song I am learning a part of.
I've been playing ukulele since March last year (2020) and I was practicing Desolation Row a few days ago and loved the harmonica solo while I listened to the original song. I don't know how long it will take me to learn something akin to that but once I do, I will be unstoppable!
