My dad was in a car accident and in a coma for about 6 weeks. The things you described that Finnius had are very typical of a closed head injury. He cried a lot and he sometimes couldn’t control his temper. I was 6 when this happened. My dad was in the hospital and then extended care facility for two years. He had to learn to redo those day-to-day tasks. There were 6 of us kids…. My mom died in that accident. Us three littlest kids could not go see him for a long time, and when we were able to go see him, he looked at us and said, “Who are they?” He lost 10 years of his memory and we were born during that time. They had told us that my dad would be nothing more than a vegetable, but he proved them wrong. He eventually came home to us and was able to go back to work for the factory he worked for and he eventually retired. He was never the same person, but he was one of the most important people in my life. He taught me so much.
Welll, this wasn’t a closed head injury which can cause much more diffuse brain damage. A penetrating head injury tends to cause more localized damage and have much more severe and immediate risk but not necessarily the wide range of symptoms, although it’s certainly possible to have some similarities, that are associated with a closed head injury.
I had Brian surgery and lost the ability to talk, walk and feed myself and had to learn how to do everything again. Lost about 2-3 years of memories. Forgot I was divorced and a lot of important things. It was the hardest thing I did. Still having trouble with things but I am grateful for it could have been worse. 17% of my brain is gone with 3 surgeries.
HUGE kudos to the man who saw Karla lying there bleeding and went out of his way to ensure she got medical care (instead of turning a blind eye like so many people do with such things), and MAJOR kudos, too, to the doctor who stood by her even after he realized what he was dealing with!
That first story choked me up. The fact that the medical team was willing to save Karla’s life, despite the dire (and imminent) danger to their own, is just breathtaking. That story was a whole new definition of “successful surgery.”

My grandfather had a parasitic twin imbedded in his skull for years. He was born sometime in the very early 1900’s. He spent his first almost 40 years thinking everyone’s heads hurt, everyday all the time headaches were normal and everybody’s heads hurt. And then he had an accident resulting in the need for an X-ray. That caused him to need surgery and the cause of his headaches was determined to be his twin. They pulled out hair, teeth and other genetic material from the base of his skull. Crazy stuff!

I’m a neurosurgeon. If a neurologist tries to take out your brain tumor, I’d suggest you should have a good will signed because you ain’t gonna wake up!
@BushidoNinja They weren't saying tumor removal was impossible, they were poking fun at the fact that Mr. Ballen referred to the doctor as a neurologist and not a neurosurgeon. They are two different medical specialties in most places. Neurologists treat disorders of the neurological systems of the body. Neurosurgeons treat disorders of the neurological parts of the body via surgery. The joke is that if a neurologist scrubs in to do brain surgery to remove a tumor then the person being operated on has poor chances because neurologists aren't trained to do operations like that
@@BushidoNinja I am a neurosurgeon, jackass. You’re probably not even qualified to mow a lawn. You know what the limbic system is? How about the cerebellar nuclei or the basal cell ganglia? Or the anterior and posterior tracts of the spinal cord? Where’s the putamen? How about the spinothalamic tract or the posterior columns? Idiot.
Ur probably never going to read this but I’ll try, Hey Mr ballen u helped me through my dads death every time u posted u would always make me forget about it and u would make me smile for the first time after his death thank u for everything you have done for me
Nobody can quite tell a story like John, and his stories are so unusual. Never dull. Much, much more than just true crime. Dark and mysterious. Where does he get all these stories?
I know all about Phineas Gage. I’ve had a brain tumor removed from my right frontal lobe with a lot of it being in my pre frontal cortex. Today when you have enough damage to one of your frontal lobes it’s called frontal lobe syndrome. I have this and there’s like there’s no filter between my brain and mouth. I have problems with impulse control, and I get extremely angry at stupid things. I also never used to be a crier but now I cry at everything. I do take medication for this and it basically keeps the lid on things unless I’m sick or something has upset really badly. This has been going on for almost 20 years for me and I can control things a bit better because I understand it so much. If I didn’t take my medication though it would be bad.
Presently in the hospital with a bone infection in my face, how relaxing and timely, cheerful stories like this for the recovery.... always enjoy your stories, well done Mr Ballon..as always.

Mr. Ballen, this video is the very best one ever. I was an ER trauma nurse and have alot of true stories about my patients, but none this extreme. I truly enjoyed it, and miss my work terribly. Thank you, young man. You're handsome too.❤
Finding a twin inside a babys brain is absolutely insane. I'm so happy the baby girl survived surgery with no damage to her brain. A lot of surgeon's are real hero's 👏
Mr.Ballen enabled me to get off an addiction to Klonipin and Xanax every night for years & years! Now all I need to fall sleep is Mr.Ballen's voice softly talking by my pillow. 😂🎉❤

Hopefully you're right. I thought he looked exhausted, worn out. So much so that I almost made a comment to the effect of "We care about you and your wellbeing. I rather you post less frequently and take care of yourself".

I’ve been watching you for years now, and now I’m starting to write my own book, and watching your story for years has helped me so much with my story telling. Thanks!
I've seen more than a few stories of people who were diagnosed with ""fetus in fetu" (or basically a parasitic twin) who actually had a "teratoma," which is a type of germ cell tumor that can have hair and teeth, and even bone, muscle, and nails.
Tbh I almost feel like I'm prepared for anything bc of this channel 😂 nothing surprises me anymore and we learn all kinds of cool info about random topics and it gets you thinking about what you would do in certain situations. So thank you for that, John. ❤

So, I translate 1000 year old Japanese folktales and put them up here but they have nothing like that first story. While a bunch of the stories I retell do have historical significance, none of them have picture evidence (obviously) or can describe in such detail the events they cover. Bravo sir. Keep doing what you're doing.
Well yeah, as much as ancient Japanese folktales sound I don't remember reading about samurai wielding grenade launchers back in the day, as amusing as that image is lol.
Are you serious? That is awesome! I'm definitely subscribing. I listen to a guy called JNightmares that tells stories from Japan, normally recent ones but sometimes older stuff but it is absolutely fascinating.

Sorry if this doesnt make sense but i love how visually apealing your videos are. I have a hard time listening to certain gory stories (even though i love the strange, dark and mysterious) because when I’m listening to stories, the visuals aren’t entertaining so I end up visually picturing the story from my point of view and that tends to get scary. With you, I am so visually engrossed as well as so enveloped in your story telling that I have no reason to picture anything in my head or hear any thoughts. Its honestly one of the only times its ever quiet up there if I really think about it. You are an amazing story teller and thank you for choosing to do this with your life and give me the ability to be fully and completely entertained and focused. Its the most amazing feeling
Mr. Ballen. Idk if you’re going to read this but your videos helped me come out of the closet. I’m afraid of the strange, dark and mysterious but not in my own closet! Into the light from now on.
I was just on an amazing trip in Italy celebrating my birthday and then being best woman for my little brother at his wedding in the Tuscan countryside.
Idiot.
I’ve learned so much from this channel. Have an AR, don’t hike anywhere, avoid big bodies of water and have the situational awareness of Jason Bourne!
Build a bomb shelter and never come out. That first story is madness. Too much mystery for me. Got to research where it came from.
And don't go caving!

Proud of Dr. Afshar.
Good to hear your fellow countryman saving someone's life under these incredible circumstances. ❤️
Nobody can quite tell a story like John, and his stories are so unusual. Never dull. Much, much more than just true crime. Dark and mysterious. Where does he get all these stories?
Perfect timing on this gloomy, rainy Sunday. Love MrBallen
It's rainy where I'm at, too! And yes, Mr. Ballen's incredible storytelling always makes a rainy day better! :D
Same! The clouds just came in and it started raining here too.
Awww I wish it were raining here
I want rain! Unfortunately it's sunny here in Arizona lol
Yes coffee and laying in the bed watching

I’m just 10 seconds in and wanted to note how you look at ease. Maybe it’s the Mom in me but you truly are giving off peaceful, joyful vibes. All the best to you and your family. 😊
Hopefully you're right. I thought he looked exhausted, worn out. So much so that I almost made a comment to the effect of "We care about you and your wellbeing. I rather you post less frequently and take care of yourself".
Claire’s mom knew something was wrong from the start that is why she kept taking her into the hospital. Glad they finally figured it out and believed her before her baby died. These were all excellent stories. Grateful you are finally getting the recognition and success you deserve. Thank you for refusing to give up. Thanks to your family and those who have supported you. Yup
So what day is it? @Mr.sabzevari
Sunday evening?!
Yessss
Wow...what an original statement....how about "Nobody tells a story like MrBallen can!" 😆
I’ve been watching you for years now, and now I’m starting to write my own book, and watching your story for years has helped me so much with my story telling. Thanks!
This one was chock full of Mr. Ballen goodness. He really is the best storyteller on TH-cam.
Phineas’ story is one of my favorites. I’ve shown those pictures to so many people who cannot believe it. Keep up the wonderful storytelling.
I love how attached he was that stick 😂

I like how MrBallen delivers Phineas' line to the doctor "Here's business enough for you" 😆
MrBallen, giving us a bonus story is just what this Sunday needed, and the story was Phineas when he had business for the Doctors
This "bonus" story is one he's told before though (like as a regular MrBallen story). It's definitely not new
Rerun. Hard to forget 😂
@@aisforannihilation1662 yeah I remember that one, about 2 minutes into the story I realised it was a story he's told before
God bless this courageous woman for the pain and suffering she's endured !!!
I've seen more than a few stories of people who were diagnosed with ""fetus in fetu" (or basically a parasitic twin) who actually had a "teratoma," which is a type of germ cell tumor that can have hair and teeth, and even bone, muscle, and nails.
Like the Indian man whose twin was inside his stomach
My " twin" was removed from my lower jaw..in the gum.
Yeah I looked up the image because of curiosity and... It does not look pretty.

Same!
Also, whenever my husband and I go past a weird building, or when my husband wants to look in an abandoned building I always say ‘this is how a Mr Ballen story starts!’
Hey I subscribe to you!
Fascinating work you do. Congratulations.
Ancient Japanese tales? Where...... I need that. Oh definitely binging this.

Good ol' Phineas! I've heard the story many times, but MrBallen always tells it best.💙

Wow! What an original statement! Did you come up with that all by yourself? 😆
I was just on an amazing trip in Italy celebrating my birthday and then being best woman for my little brother at his wedding in the Tuscan countryside. I naturally didn’t do as much TH-cam/podcasts/social media. Upon returning home, I was so sad not to wake up to fresh cappuccino, cold cuts and cheese for breakfast but was so excited to drink my black coffee, in my bed, with my dogs, watching Mr Ballen while the sun comes up. Feels like home ❤

Yall the first story was like the one patient on greys anatomy in season 2 episode 17 that came in with a bazooka shell in his chest, and the doctors we’re terrified to operate but did and as soon as they removed the shell and handed it to the bomb squad it exploded and guy holding it blew up. That was a crazy episode! But im glad this real life story had a much better ending 😅
Man how I wished You Presented yourself in Medical Mysteries lol. The stories are phanomenal but the hand gestures and expressions are what really give the stories Actual Depth and make them that much more Suspenseful.
