I also have a betta. He is super peaceful. He lives with a female betta together. Half a year ago baby bettas were born. I let them take care of their Babys alone , now 6 young bettas (almost as big as their parents) are swimming in the tank. There are also shrimp, corys and fire tetras in the tank. They all harmonize fantastically. My bettas are very peaceful and relaxed. The dad is a long fin in Red and blue. The mom is a neonblue one. 3 of the Babys are like their dad. 2 of the babies are like their mom. And 1 baby is shiny white. I am really happy and think that this is really special. :)
Oh, sorry for my bad english

@@ferretwonderland mine are in a shallow tank and the roots of houseplants hang in the tank. I have no filter. There is only weak lighting and heating at 78,8 F inside. That is it with the technology. There are also leaves from trees inside and many places to hide. I think that helped with the breed.

it's not a "bad rap" to say bettas are agressive. it's theys f*cking nature. this is a harmful narrative for uneducated betta owners who will want to put several male bettas in a small tank. to do this, you need a massive tank & set up compared to what the average betta gets.

Our betta who recently passed away was actually depressed , all by himself in a 30 gal, my boyfriend had him before we moved together.
I noticed he looked quite sad and lonely, wouldn’t swim around or explore much and I suggested we got other fish, we got 3 red wagtail platys and a school of 11 zebra danios and he never looked happier, and healthier, his colors became unbelievable. My boyfriend couldn’t believe it, he thought the betta would kill them all, but he was the sweetest fish ever. He loved the company.

I recently discovered a youtube channel talking about co-habing bettas as a community with multiple males and females from about the time of your comment here, bettas have individual personalities so having things to do around their home is important. I mean, wed be depressed if we lived in a hollow, empty home with no friends, no mates and nothing to do all day, right?

That is breathtaking. I loved the little spider with story…. & the intermittent ferret affection. Very sweet. I do have a beta named Mauricio. He is very friendly & acts much like a puppy. He needs attention or he gets depressed. I was shocked the 1st time I was moving things around in his tank & I was pulling my hand up to the surface slowly cupping my hand to remove some debris,… & he swam right into my hand when it was just breaking the water🐠💙 & stayed there!!I knew he liked to be touched because he would always glide by my hand. I don’t want to disturb his slime coat so I mostly just blow on him gently, he loves it. My strange little fish 🥰

Ive had so many different bettas throughout the years and they all had different personalities and temperaments. Some were super aggressive and tried attack their tank mates (and had to be separated ofc),some didn't do well on their own but came back to life as soon as they were in a community tank and behaved like a protective older sibling with the other fish .I even had one that was naturally timid and was scared of his tank mates even though he was bigger than them lol and thrived in a solitary aquarium.

My orchid crowntail is very sweet. He enjoys me singing to him and makes a point to rub against my fingers when I feed him. He's in a 6 gal tank but I'm going to give him a ten gal more natural tank. That's why I've been watching a lot of these video's for ideas. That...and I'm blown away by the number of talented people out there building these beautiful habitats for their pets. They could do it for a living! what a lovely scape, well done. My Crowntail beta when i first got him was very aggressive and when i added him to my tank i had to remove my guppy to another tank. but after a couple weeks in his big tank alone he really chilled out. now he lives with cherry shrimp and a baby black mollie and shows no aggression towards them, I think its a combo of him not being used to his environment and the colors in the guppy which made him that way. now he's great and very happy in his 10-gallon planted tank.

I have a female betta with Harlequin rasboras, and snails. She’s extremely peaceful with her tank mates. Swims closely with them, they all live very peacefully together. She’s the peace keeper in there for sure, i caught her one time stopping some nipping between two male harlequins (I had just added a female harloquin, I assume they’re were competing) chasing them off in different directions.. I found that interesting. I’ve had male bettas only for a while, but My first female betta in this tank has been a treasure.. very underrated.

When I introduced my betta (Black Orchid) into an established heavily planted 20 gallon, he immediately was aggressive to every other fish in there (platies and a swordtail) but chilled out when faced with the one fish that was actually bigger than him (a female panda platy). He hasn't caused any problems since that day, even when I introduced another fish. He...just needs to be a little more proactive during feeding time lol

I just purchased a galaxy koi betta last week and currently she is in a hospital tank before moving to a larger one. She is so awesome! Her name is Lexi and I can't wait to see how she reacts to shrimp being in the tank. She is fairly aggressive for a female, but I do believe she will calm down in time.
I love Red! Very beautiful fish, you have made a wonderful home for him. I believe bettas are happy when they have owners that genuinely care and give them enough space. When they feel they are crowded they get aggressive, just like we would.

About nine months ago I fulfilled my wish of having my own AQ. I used to have one when I was a teenager and now I thought it was about time to take it up as a new old hobby. I informed myself and planned and in the end I had an approx. 80L Aq with plenty of plant growth, hiding places and the basics. When the time came for the first residents to move in, the decision was very difficult for me. Since I felt really everyone and everywhere was advised against keeping Betta and Guppies together, it was only Guppies and Coris. After quite a while, the idea and liking for a betta didn't go away, I found a betta at the zoo, young, tagged as female, and in a tiny tank with lots of other small fish. When I inquired, it was just that, yeah, it's been here for a while. The Betta was almost completely white, pearly and short-finned. After much deliberation, I decided to take him with me. I made arrangements with the store staff that if it doesn't work out, he can go back. Today this fish is the best thing that could have happened to me. He taught me things that are important for a well running aq. And best of all, he feels good. he has grown super and has developed in color in a kind of red koi coloring. There is nothing left of the pale withdrawn shy betta. She - turned out to be a he - loves the place and gets along really well with the guppies. He likes to watch the shrimp that are brought in later and keeps my guppies birth rate under control xD He has his own space and loves to chill in the floating plants. From time to time, when a young guppy seems too pushy, he flairs at him, but with fins or general arguments and being unwell, I've never had a problem from any side here. On the contrary.. the shrimp felt like they had exploded, the guppies only have a few offspring and the coris..they don't care anyway.. You can say Bettas have a personality - I can agree with that 100% and I'm happy with mine to have made the best catch for me. And one more thing: Bettas work with other fish, including guppies, there are a few things to consider, such as the location and type of guppies and of course the character of the betta, but if everything fits perfectly.

I have had several Bettas in my lifetime. I currently have two male halfmoon King Bettas named Alloy, being about 3"-3.5" long and Dante, being more like 2"-2.5" and still growing. Dante is extremely chill. Currently in my fully planted 20 long with 9-10 cobalt blue guppies, 4 ember tetra, 2 neon tetra and my last albino Cory cat. My tetra and Cory cat are all 5-6 years old which is mind boggling I still have them, guppies are all still young. Dante loves the heavy plants and does not mind having company.
Alloy has a pretty docile temperament too but being he's so large, I have him his own 10 gallon as he's a bit of a show stopper. Silver and black until he's under a light then he goes ridiculous iridescent shine. He's super friendly too though. Bit of a pork chop though. I may put a couple otos in with him or potentially a couple hillstream loaches for cleanup crew.
In the past my favorite was Cloud, also a halfmoon King. He was freakin huge and I had him for a long time. He was bit sassy and liked his own space so I never could keep him with others. Females are almost always the better choice with community tanks as they are more consistently less aggressive in my experience. Have had a few elephant ear, crown tail, bumble bee females as well.
Honestly it's a case by case basis on Betta fish with others. I just seem to have a knack for picking the ones with the best personalities lol same thing happened with my snake Asterix too. He's my puppy dog in scales 😁

Also it was a big tank (2ft x 1ft x 1ft) and I had less than 30 fish/snails total in it so he would retreat to areas where there weren't as many other fish if he wanted quiet time.

I got a Betta that we called Steve and got Red , Blue and White colors. He’s currently living in our 10 gallon aquarium with 6 Chinese Neon Tetras , 1 guppy , 6 Amano Shrimps and 4 Nerite Snails. He is very happy and never attacked anyone :) ! We really like him ! I gotta say that yours is very nice too !! Cheers !

Chinese neon tetra?? Do you mean captive bred neon tetras from China. They just called neon tetra as most are bred in Hong Kong and China although they South American. Chinese neon fish also known white cloud mountain fish. Which are actually cold water species. They are not in the tetra family. Chinese neon tetra is made up from the shops or clerks of shops.

I had a betta in my college dorm apartment and called him Ozymandius. He ruled over the tank, and his five harlequin raspbora tankmates. He never bothered them, but he was very active. Well school came to an end and it was time to move out. My dad came to help me pack and we drained most of the tank and put it in the back of his SUV. It wasn't too long of a ride, but boy did Ozzy get mad every time my dad came around in my bedroom where he lived after that! I think he ended up forgiving him, because Dad would often feed him. But he would recognize us! Wonderful fishy.

I had a Betta when I was a kid, it's a blue one. They are known as Fighting Fish and the pet shop owner tried to scam me by saying the "battered ones" are experienced fighters and the missing fins are proof that they are "strong fighters". I wasn't dumb enough to believe them, those fishes were sick and they were about to die so I refused. Plus I wanted a Betta to live with the Guppies and Neon Tetras in my aquarium so I bought the a healthy blue one.

I have a betta, when i first got him he was black with white fins and pale white head, he was scared of everything, shy and aggressive. After some days he became very friendly and brave, now he always comes to me whenever i appear in his sight. His colours also changed A LOT, the white has disappeared and his head is now bright yellowish orange, his fins became bigger and now they're black with bright light blue stripes with a bit of red on the tips, the change is insane, he looks like a complete different betta now.

Since everyone is talking about how nice their fish are/were I'll change pace. My 2nd bettas name was Anger. He was _pure_ rage. As soon as you walked in the room he would have his flare out and he would be attacking the side of the tank. As you would walk by he would actively try to get to you and attack you. He hated anything alive. Watched him flip out when my dog walked past him even. He was all about violence and willing to dish it out. He would hop out of the water at my fingers when I would feed him.... None of my others or my current 3 have any kind of attitude like that and I think it's being bred out of them. Anger lived a long life and was a brilliant pure red. Dude didn't care of you were thousands of times his size he wanted a piece of you..

Very impressive build and peaceful to watch it come together ☺️ We have had mostly peaceful male bettas that have lived in community tanks with shrimp 🦐 and assorted tetras. More often than not, it would be the tetras that would end up nipping the at the bettas fins though 😒

I’m currently caring for 4 Bettas, 3 are males. My Black Orchid Crowntail, who I’ve had the longest, is in a tank with 7 Corydoras Catfish and a Siamese Algae Eater. He interacts with them and sometimes chases them but he isn’t aggressive- he flares at them but never bites. My second male is a Glofish I rescued from being on a store shelf for two months without food or clean water. He’s quite passive towards his Corydoras tank mates and they follow him around the tank. I don’t have tank mates for my other two Bettas yet, but I’m planning on getting some in the near future.

Lovely video! I have 6 betta boys right now and have been dying to try a paludarium for quite some time now. I do have a couple questions I would love to have answered though!
How do you keep your water the correct temp for him? I didn’t see a heater (though I know many fish keepers have the room set to a specific temperature for their tanks) but if I needed to add one would it be possible?
Also, water changes? Since there’s no active filtration other than the plants and circulation from the waterfall (that I could see at least) how do you keep the water levels stable/how often do you do water changes?
Sorry for the long comment I am just incredibly inspired by this but want to make sure I do my research so if I attempt it, it’s done to the absolute best of my abilities!
    Thank you!!

I've had Bettas in my tropical aquariums many times with no problems at all. One female I had used to be friends with a large spiny eel. They liked to lay together in a sunken ship. A male I had another time was happy lying in a weed, like a hammock. I never saw any aggression from them against other fish. The tank I had was 400 litres and had many other fish species in, large and small. The only creature I had problems with have been yabbies. and shrimp. Nasty things they hunt the fish and my boy betta was taken one night by a blue yabby. I've also had a Blue Crown Betta boy who was free ranging for years. He had a small warmed tank for a few months of winter, it was his penthouse, but spent the rest of the year moving between a couple of rainwater barrels, old canoe or kayaks outside my kayak factory which collected water in. He used to come to my hand, and slide into it so I could move him to new lodgings where he'd have a ball chasing mosquito and other larvae. He was a beautiful fish, I called him Eel.

My beta named Buddy lived his entire life with other fish in a 10 gallon. Him, his girl Belle the Beast (she was so mean to him in the beginning), Speedy the Snail (and later Blue the Snail), lots of ghost shrimp (he loved his snacks), some little tiny eel creatures, and Sunking the goldfish (he looked just like the Pokémon 🤣). I got some heat about Sunking being in there but when I moved him out, both Buddy and Sunking stayed on the side of their tanks that was closest to each other. And both stopped eating. So I put Sun back.

They're not meant to live in a small bowl they need full tanks with filtration and a good temperature ❤️ happy fish equals a great roommate for other small fish friends. Just make sure to do the research to make sure the setup is compatible for everyone living in there 🥰

When I was little I had my father buy me 2 betta's from the same pet store together, one male and one female. They were both chill in the same bowl together. Unfortunately one died when my father was cleaning it because the male decided to jump in the boiling water. We put the female in the community tank where she thrived only for my father and younger sibling to think it was a good idea to put crawdads in the tank and she was eaten. Now that I'm older I decided to buy one male betta. Which I had for 6 months, he was a total scaredy cat. Everything was perfect in the tank, that was just his personality. Unfortunately he died the same day I got covid to unknown reasons.

My beta Benji had a 10 gallon planted tank to himself after about a year I got a young albino Cory Catfish. I would feed my beta more often than the cory because the sink disks were too big and the catfish did not finish the food disks, but ever time I did my beta would sit on the sand with the catfish and push the disk towards the catfish and watch until she was done. When I introduced another cory catfish I found out it beta got mad and territorial. I found out the albino was female because she had eggs and babies with the green cory catfish.
I like to think My Beta Benji was in love with my albino catfish and was mad that the emerald cory catfish stole her away.

What a beautiful setup, I strieve to spoil my betta like this one day! My betta Matt cannot have tankmates, he owns the whole house. But sometimes I feel like he's lonely.
