    I am sick of leaders being “kind” as the city becomes increasingly dysfunctional. I voted for this guy because we really needed someone in charge who would be a disrupter and give the system a good kicking to get things moving, without asking for another report to cover up incompetence.
    At the moment he seems to be doing that. I hope he manages to bring in the changes and get rid of the deadwood. If he can do that in one term then he can retire with pride.
    As for the media individuals who wanted the other guy as Mayor and slagged off at Brown for being old, white, grumpy, incompetent etc.,but now write sob articles about him not talking to you, suck it up! He said you were useless and he couldn’t be bothered giving you interviews because you were stupidand he had better things to do. That’s what is happening. You now can see what you are missing.

  • @myobacctsgirl

    I don't believe Jack was worried about empathy - he was trying to get Mayor Brown to personally admit that it was the council's fault these people died... completely untrue. 1 died trying to help others, 1 died after being trapped in a house collapse, 1 died after being washed away, 1 chose to just have some fun, being the adventurer he was and so tragically passed. How is this directly the sitting mayor or the council's fault? Yes one death was too many but it could have been so much worse... and the outgoing mayor should bow his head in shame for not implementing anything in the 2016 report. If Mayor Brown says he's onto it, let him get on with it. It's more than we've had for a while. As for cuts in the budget, the 'nice to have' needs to go for a while, so we can fix the obvious - if you want the 'nice to haves'... as a community we need to get them the old fashioned way in the interim and fundraise for them. Not expect council's to provide everything. Go back to essential services and fix the city. I remember when communities banded together to build children's playgrounds, community halls and centres were fundraised for and built by local companies. There always seems to be more people expecting handouts by council's... Auckland is not what it used to be. The supercity is just too big and in my opinion should never have been created. I'm sad, I'm tired of the blame game, get it fixed. Rant over!

    Beat the drum of an empathic platitude, Jack Tame. Is that all you can focus on at the beginning? This makes you look a completely woke drongo. Initially, it is an attempted beat up of the one elected official who has mapped out a clear course of action within a very short space of time to address the systemic failure of the organization he is clearly focussed on fixing. Ask about the steps he is suggesting to map a course of action out of this mess and focus on the real issues so he gets some support to get on with it.

      @@southpacific222 Clearly the council is a shambles we were sold a lie I accept that. This council is arrogant and bloated. The issue I have is it is the Mayors role and responsibility to call a state of emergency. We elect Leaders to be just that, he can say he was taking advice all he wants end of the day the buck stops with him, if he doesn't have the Mana or the strength to turn around and say to those people he thinks they are wrong or he is making a decision then that's on him end of story. Yes he was handed a bullshit council with terrible infrastructure and he knew this going into it. But if he is unable to make the hard decisions in times of need what use is he. I get it he has been given the worst hospital pass and he had no support on that evening so that's why he should have called it as soon as those reports started coming in he could have called a state of emergency and done all he can to get that message out and what ever happened after that then we could say he done his best. I never got the message about a state of emergency that night until about 1030pm it has stopped raining by then most people were already in undated. I was at work at around 7pm and already was seeing footage that would suggest that this was a big one. And how are people in auckland going to afford 13%! That's crazy, people are already struggling. And what do you mean JUST!? Do you have any idea how much JUST 13% will cost struggling households? Obviously not, or you just don't care.

    • @amandariddell
      @amandariddell ปีที่แล้ว

      @@southpacific222 'just' means they did it recently; it's not a comment on the increase itself.
      We voted for a left-wing mayor who (theoretically) cares about the people... I'd say the families who don't own homes are struggling more than those who own property.
      If people wanted it to be fair, then they should increase it more in the affluent areas so that the less affluent areas can have a smaller increase.

    • @southpacific222
      @southpacific222 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@amandariddell Or we should cut wasteful spending esp on overpaid city councillors who do nothing but waste rate payers money.
      Affluent people as you stated already pay more rates as it's based on valuation of the property.
      Your veiw of people who don't own homes are worse off then home owners is simplistic. There are as many different financial situations as there are home owners.
      There's an awful lot of elderly that own there own home but have no money but the pension and any rate rise with make them lose their home.
      There are also a lot of renters that rent by choice and have good jobs and have a lot of disposable income.
      There are also a lot of young families that have borrowed up to their eyeballs to get into their first home and with cost of living, mortgage rates and threats like 13% rate rise will be enough to tip these poor people into losing their homes. And if they are forced to sell they won't get a good price for their home and will end up still in debt after the house sells. Homeless & in debt.
      You obviously don't own a house and just listen to the stupid media & politician rhetoric about how all home owners are rich blah blah blah. What a load of irresponsible disinformation.
      Kiwis including home owners are hurting out there, Wayne knows that and is trying to help them.
      And if rates go up , rent will go up as well.

Empathy is a useless emotion. It does nothing. Solves nothing. Better people who solve problems and don't go around beating an emotional drum.
