My theory is: A lot of people who were getting public money before the new government, are getting less or none with the new National/Act/NZ first government. Tagata Pasafika had a segment with two unknown people. A man and a woman. And they were listing all the anti Maori/Pacific Islander factors they claimed the new government intended.
It seems like paid propaganda from JT and others to get their way/funding. Internet connectivity allows us to consume self serving ideas which may promote social division.
If people get used to getting public money and then it stops. That would be motivating to reinstate the funding. Calls for a race war seems like a desperate call for power. JT is digging a pit for himself. Self delusional power hungry egomaniac. This whanau is burning bridges and will fall on their own sword.

My view is that under two terms of Left woke leadership, certain political expectations among some Maori became heightened and, after the election a significant adjustment became required.
There is naturally disappointment and there is some grief.
We should all just calmly hold the line. This is democracy. You don't always get what you want. But, in aggregate, NZ got what NZ voted for.
There is no need to be triggered into big changes with all their attendant costs and risks because some people are experiencing grief. Grief is a normal part of life.
Most NZ'ers experienced plenty of grief themselves over the past two terms and managed to comport themselves responsibly.

In case people missed it, TVNZ did an appalling piece on the protests. Yvonne Tuhana said, without a trace of irony, that there were "mooted repeals of Treaty clauses all across government", which is demonstrably untrue and inflammatory. Then Debbie NP was interviewed on Parliament grounds saying that cuts to special access programmes which don't work was A Bad Thing, from an institution - nods to the Legislature - that was in its "twilight". See how this works? More chipping away at legitimacy of parliament, creating the narrative and rhetorical conditions for overthrow. Drip, drip, drip. Normalise the attacks on core institutions, claim oppression, alienation, and a right to resist, then resist to protect tupuna and mokopuna etc. There's the mystic or holy mission element. All resistance movements need a Greater Cause. And if people get hurt, well, that's justified and righteous too. Kiri Tamihere-Waititi seems to be well across this playbook.
