For similar reasons, they didn't hire a Native American actor for Running Brave, or an [openly] gay actor for Ode to Billy Joe. Heck, he wasn't even authentic for The Chosen since he was Jewish in [his father's] name only. It's called acting.
Unfortunately, this clip shows the generalization and stereotyping. My grandmother was Mexican and a blue eye blonde. Not all Mexicans have dark skin and brown eyes. By the way, I watched this movie, "Walking Proud," when it first came out. Good movie and good acting! I've always liked Robby Benson!
