These things sound so much better going past you in real life we have railroad tracks in my neighborhood nothing but Norfolk southern, bnsf, and Union Pacific blast throughout the neighborhood
Actually for being diesels their compression ratio is quite low! 15.3:1! I've seen diesels go as high as 22.5:1 and as low as 14.5:1, though according to a quick search, the actual range for diesels is 14:1 to 25:1. So yeah, GEVO-12s are on the lower end of the spectrum. EMD 710 is in the same range, as is the EMD 1010J/265H engine family.
I live just above the BNSF mainline as it leaves the Surrey/Vancouver BC yard about a mile away from my us on its way to Seattle. Nothing like the sound of 3 Units under load getting a train up to speed!
The uaw killed emd and detriot diesel. G E was paying half the hourly wages. CEO Wagner couldn`t say no to anyone. Emd turned out some sorry engines. Wagner GAVE DD to penske. But look at the U S now 3 of the class 8 trucks manufactors are foreign owned
When I'm 90 and the days of all-electric trains are here, I will never forget the sound of those GEVO-12s
Thanks for watching!
"you kids don't know what real power sounds like..." *furiously shaking cane*
all electric trains… yeah won’t be a thing
GEVOs thump, EMDs whine. I like thump. NIce sound engineering - good job.
Thanks for watching!
The Paxman and English Electric engined locos in the UK have a nice thump to the engine note when working hard.
Also, G.E. engines can have *Soot* when pushed hard.
Those GEVOs engines at notch 8 are relaxing to me RUMBLE!
The cooling fans and traction whine is what does it for me
Thanks for watching!
An AWESOME compilation of BNSF GEVOs

There's a guy who rides freight trains has a TH-cam channel. He was on a train in Mexico right behind the locomotive that was a GEVO. Sounded great
