Interesting, sounds like they incorporated the 5 Chinese elements (unique ones being metal and wood, no air) alongside the 4 Greek ones (unique one being air, no metal or wood).
I noticed that as well. Cool way to do it imo, allows for the extra bit of customisability depending on the aesthetics you are going for, and you could even mix air and metal as a crossover of both and stark contrast between elements (as I don’t think that there are two elements more opposed than air and metal).
Surprised they didn't incorporate the Japanese traditional element of Void
@@petalsinthebreeze It's mentioned in Rage of Elements but Void and Vitality are replacing Negative and Positive energy, so that's already covered elsewhere.
I think the elements they're using are the same set of 6 elements as the Codex Alera series of books.
@@dragonsswarm1987 they're literally based on Chinese philosophy, which predates that by a few millennium. They even show the elemental wheel that is used in chinese philosophy as the primary force (which only features the 5 core elements), and then explain that wind is present in all 5 other elements.
Also a LOT of the Kineticist is based in Tian Xia, which is literally based on China.
It really seems like they went the extra mile to incorporate feedback from the playtest. Variable damage types, channel element letting you use a blast or impulse so it's less of an action tax, gaining extra benefits from sticking with one element to balance out the versatility of having multiple... super excited to see the full class!
There needs to be a high level impulse feat that requires all six elements called 'Avatar State'. Ok.. they probably can't call it that, but some insane feat at level 19 that makes it actually worth going all six elements instead of specializing for all the goodies.
@@adamu.2674 id be down for that. Maybe "Six Gate Mastery", enabling a special impulse that does multiple damaging attacks at once and lets the user pick what damage each part does? Could be a cool way to give that reward.
@@hellfrozenphoenix13 Elemental Hexa-Blast. choose 1 impulse of X level or lower for each element and use it, you then cant use any for 6 minutes

When you said 6 elements I thought the other 2 were going to be Electric and Ice, like most RPGs have, but having Metal and Wood being in this is so cool.
Its both the Western and Eastern Elements. Eastern Elements are Fire, Water, Earth, Metal, and Wood.

This feels like the No Spells Per Day caster people have been asking for.
Also, something else I noticed is that Gather Element only lets you Blast or use a "Stance Impulse", guessing that meaning an impulse with the stance trait, meaning you can combine gathering the element with entering a kineticist specific stance.
The aura junction mentions it gains the weakness to fire "from your fire impulses" so I don't think the wizard could benefit from that.
I don't know.. technically opening an elemental gate (a rift into golarion) is subject to the element planes rules.. so it's fair game.
Enhanced and Impeded Magic
Source Gamemastery Guide pg. 136
Some planes enhance certain magic and impede opposing effects. A plane that enhances a particular type of magic grants anyone Casting a Spell with that trait a +1 circumstance bonus to their spell DC or spell attack roll with that spell. Impeded magic means a character who Casts a Spell or Activates an Item with the specified trait must succeed at a DC 6 flat check or lose the spell or activation.
So if a fire kineticist opened a gate to the plane of fire. Then all fire type spells within the area of effect will have a +1 circumstance bonus to their spell DC or spell attack roll with that spell, and if you cast a water type spell within the same area of effect then you would need to roll a DC 6 flat check or lose the spell or activation.
@@Damion.Turner I don't believe that works or is intended. That would mean the Kineticist always has an extra +1 because impulses are magic. You are not in the Plane you are taking the element out of it, which would mean it was stronger than weakened for entering the Universe.
@@asunayuuki1276 It's open to GM interpretation.. but I would rule in favour of Enhanced and Impeded magic .. but the key difference between being "in the plane" and opening a gate from that plane .. is area of effect.. a plane is a whole world in which to alter magic, a gate is only an emination of 5 or 10 feet.
This makes me excited. I love elementally themed characters and I had an idea for a smith character. I wonder if Fire + Metal would be fun for that, but I worry it won't fit the class' theme

i too love elemental characters, the first thing i thought when seeing the video was "man, i want to make a charater using those overflow abilities, they sound so fun", unfortunatly, i'm the forever gm =)

The weakness is only to "your fire impulses", so the wizard's scorching ray would *not* get any bonus damage. It's similar to Thaumaturge's exploit vulnerability.

Well aside from that load minority that wanted a laser fighter even if it meant throwing away all the utility. Even then, aside from whatever the blast progression is eventually the kineticist will end up with +1 over a normal martial (from scaling to legendary class DC but the item bonus to accuracy only going to +2)

I've been waiting for this class to come out for months so I can make my Wildfire Leshy Fire/Wood Kineticist, love this video and can't wait for the deep dive
To add extra flavor, choose a fruit leshy and make it a jalapeno leshy... what could be more fire/wood than a spicy plant dude?

You say people will complain about the term "Spell-like abilities" but the kinetcist's blasts and action-using-abilities were ALL ACTUALLY "Spell-like abilities"
I've been wondering it for awhile but, it sounds so far like Paizo has made a better Avatar: The Last Airbender class than Avatar did with their game. I kinda wanna try to run an Avatar story using Kineticist, fighter, and inventor to match the classes in Avatar Legends.
Also Monk, no? Lot of Monk abilities would work too
@@PersephoneApplewhite-uk8ts Maybe, but it feels like just from what little I've read that Kineticist already seems very monkish, maybe have it as a free archetype.
I tried the playtest, definitely a lot of improvements here. I can't wait to get my hands on this myself!
My two biggest complaints about the playtest were the action economy, and the damage being baby. Glad to see they fixed both.
Re: the Kineticist full class deep dive
You can do this. You've been training with the Dark Archive class videos.
If that isn't motivation enough, think of this as training for the Oracle and Witch Mk II class deep dives.
Just to clarify, the aura junction for fire you showed said that your kinetic aura gives them weakness to fire FROM YOUR FIRE IMPULSES. So no, they wouldn't have weakness to the Wizard's Scorching Ray.
Spell-like Abilities was a Pathfinder 1e term, too.
It is indeed. It's not an uncommon term in the TTRPG world.
I noticed that Fire was the only blast that _didn't_ have variable damage types despite being the one that arguably needed it the most. I assume there's some feat in the class somewhere to help with that? I hope there is...
Surprised no one mentioned this yet, but there are two things that help combat that issue: the Weapon Infusion class feat, and the Fire Gate Junction (the Aura Junction, specifically).
During the early levels (levels 1-4), the Weapon Infusion class feat helps to circumvent issues related to creatures with Fire resistance.
Then, at level 5, when you Expand the Portal, you can then take the Fire Aura Junction, for your Fire Gate Junction, which then allows you to apply Weakness to your Fire Impulses (equal to half your level, rounded down).
Finally, the Fire Aura can then be expanded upon, once you hit Level 10, with the Aura Shaping class feat. This class feat extends your Aura out to 20 feet initially, and then out to 30 feet by level 20.
So as you can see, they do have answers. It's just that some of their more elegant answers come online at later levels.

Whaaaat? You mean 6 trackers 2 of which Change your stats, to-hit, and damage by separate amounts by separate amounts while also tracking a shrinking hp-pool is more complicated than this majesty I’m currently witnessing?
13:19 Also worth noting the 2-Action Elemental Blast would trigger your Impulse Junction if you have one. So Air would be able to move half speed or step before the hit. So it's basically, for them little cost CON bonus damage since they can close into melee or step out of melee as part of it. And the damage is better than it seems for many elements because they have an energy option. So you can avoid the very common physical resist or hit a weakness (though that's rare for Air) or both. There's an early enemy in OoA with a 5 resist and a 5 electric weakness. Air kineticist can swoop in there and do 1d6+STR+CON+5 (1d6+12) and effectively avoid the 5 resist for a bunch of effective damage over everyone else. CHONKY.
I wonder what the other junctions are. Especially water since I'm playing one of those in a game.

I’ve wanted to have a plant-mage and the Leaf Druid just didn’t hold up.
But there’s gonna be a ton of new plant spells for the Wood Plane so…who maybe Druid (and Elemental archetype) is gonna be exciting!
@@toodleselnoodos6738 Wood's impulse junction gives you temp hp equal to your level that last until the start of your next turn. Which is alright. At level 20 versus an on level enemy that's a chunky amount of an average High damage strike and most of an unlimited use AoE. Aura Junction is a little on the weak side and it's resists are kinda niche unless they change the plant trait to wood in the remaster. Good impulses though.
Just hearing about the class features has made a bunch of character ideas bounce around in my tiny little walnut-brain. I can't wait to get the full book to check everything out.

Gotta say the imagery invoked by knowing the physical nature of the kineticist as a living interplaner gate and choosing an option called "Expand the Portal" is pretty rad.
Well now I'm _really_ interested in seeing what kinds of builds you can make with the Kineticist. Just from the general overview it's obvious this class is gonna be extremely versatile, but I'd love to see what neat combinations you can make with it, especially with the elemental fusion impulses.
I'm super curious what the proficiency scaling is on those blasts and spells. Great video, Nonat!
The skill junction bonus seems super nice for skills like Athletics/Medicine/Intimidation/Stealth etc.
Deep down, I think we all know we'd want to do the same thing Nonat did at the beginning of the video.
I know for certain my first kineticist will be wood at minimum (gonna be undead hunting), but I reeeeally want to see what the other elements are in case I wanna mix

Seems like it. I kinda prefer the new style: WAY more flexible and diverse imo
you could do a barbarian (which sorta focus on HP tanking) and combine that with a multi-class of kineticist {Barbareian gets best when taking as prime by a large margin)
AHH... brings back memories of the Aether kineticist pug my dm let me play. Pretty much I played a home brew pug race I made and used the Aether basic manipulation to interact with things.
I just hope they stuck with the impulse names from the playtest, especially the high level ones.
They just went so hard with no care and I loved them.

They were very anime names. For example, "The shattered mountain weeps"
Or "All shall end in flames"
In addition to those mentioned, I am particularly fond of "Usurp the Lunar Reins", "Ignite the Sun", and "Infinite Expanse of Bluest Heaven".

Can’t wait for kineticist! I decided when I first saw the play test that it would be my next character regardless of the mechanics, and I see my faith has been rewarded.
About the Aura Junction; it is a weakness to fire FROM YOUR FIRE IMPULSES. A two-condition weakness; "Is Fire Damage", and "From Your Fire Impulse". So while they will take extra damage from YOUR attacks of that element, they won't take extra damage from OTHER sources of that element. Makes the effect a lot weaker, since it doesn't help your party like it helps you and PF2 is all about the party interaction, but still a decent ability.
feel like an all kineticist party would be insane and still be great. Also I noticed that the wood blast can deal vitality damage but is that a new damage type? I don't think i've seen it before
It's the new name for positive damage. Negative damage is now called void damage, as well.

@@Haos51wood is, in many eastern cultures, a key components in anti-evil rituals and tools. Holy crosses, stakes, wood charms, totems, etc. Jt may seem odd, but does fit.

About to play PF1 with one of my groups and loading up my Kineticist stuff and couldn't remember the date the Kineticist comes out for PF2 so I come back here to find the date and AHHHHHHHH 4 days away!!!!!
I know it might be crunchy and not intuitive for some people, but I love the strategy game of deciding when to fork and when to expand as you level up.
In PF1 I played as Kineticist a lot. I love that class back in the day and I love it now. PF2 did an impressive job, Kineticist feels like a real update.
Very excited about this class! Between this and learning about the Class+ from Pathfinder Infinite my players are stoked!
Kineticist is going to make every wannabe blaster caster so happy.
I feel like it has some signs of major power creep, but that could also just be stuff that is coming in the remaster that Paizo said, "yep, spellcasters should get this.". So hopefully casters will be seeing the same love that Kineticist has rec'd.
At 12:27 you mention that the Gate Attenuator gives the kineticist their +1, +2, +3 item bonus to attack rolls but in the Paizocon discord Q&A they mentioned Gate Attenuators only going up to +2. Was this just a misinterpretation or did they add a +3 Gate attenuator?
This feels like an entire alternate spell system.
Kind of, yeah. A more binary one than the 'degrees of success'. If a spell fails, usually it has some sort of effect that still occurs. An impulse failing will probably just be a damage/no damage or effect/no effect situation. But I won't have the book until everyone else does -- assuming my subscription ships on time.
Don't forget to pick up the rogue archetype for the element of surprise!
Depending on how much can be destroyed with the basic kinesis: "I remove the earth from under the target's feet." If it's enough, you might even get fall damage.
Alternatively, if you have time to prepare, you could easily make pit traps.
I normally just watch videos and let them autoplay in my playlist while I work or close the tab when they finish, but this one said the next goal is 69k subscribers, so I'm taking time out of my day to make sure I like and comment on it. It's not much, but it's the best I can offer for such excellent content.
What even is a kineticist, thematically? An avatar-like monk of elements? A mage of some sort? An artificer subtype? I can't tell simply by reading the name.

This is the spellcasting class for people who don't like spellcasters.
I love the junction abilities because they give you passive thematic abilities without having to sacrifice a feat slot.
You know the only thing that comes into mind for me when it comes to kineticist is that one tiefling companion you come across when you play owlcat's pathfinder: kingmaker.
Also a question for the pf2e folks, is there synergy between monk and kineticist?
Yes. Monk gets a variety of elemental stances which, fittingly, deal elemental damage. What you'll want to do with Kineticist is get the junction which gives creature weakness to your element within your aura, and then have the monk use the matching elemental stance on enemies that you team up on. If you're planning to multiclass, I don't know how the kineticist multiclass archetype will work, but it's probably better to be a monk that multiclasses into kineticist (for the unarmed attack proficiency) and then use the kineticist archetype to get the junction if possible.

Slight correction: *stance* impulse for that initial impulse when you initially channel element.

@@npaulagain I mean, inflicting weakness does very directly reduce resistance, so that's a thing. Most of the blasts also appear to have options for 2 different damage types, so you have options it looks like.
@webbowser8834 yup. But without a way to avoid immunity - for fire at least - it will be interesting.

Hey, NoNat. I was curious if this version of the kineticist looks to be designed with the coming rule changes in mind, or does it reference the precious rules and wording and we will have to get an eratta for it when the updated rules drop?
Rage of Elements is written with Remaster rules. Roll For Combat showed some of the differences in their Earth preview and showed a sidebar that included some terminology changes.

I would argue that Aura Junction only gives fire weakness to enemies if they take fire damage from your impulses. So that wizard friend casting Blazing Bolt (Scorching Ray) won’t benefit from the effect. Neither will your own elemental blasts, fire obviously in this case. Only your impulses get to apply the weakness.

It sounds really cool, but I do have to ask just because you can use your con modifier for damage does the health progression for this class works like wizard and sorcerer or or do they get more hit points per level up🤔
From what I remember from the playtest pdf, the class has 8 HP+Constitution modifier per level, plus they have training in light armor.

Hey @Nonat1s when you do the deep dive is it possible to just go by element and general feats? When the playtest came out i know you wanted to do all feats by level but I dont think it translates well with how big this class is. It really felt distorted and hard to keep up with. Just a thought love your content either way and cant wait for the deep dive.

Question at the start of the video NoNat says pdfs are released July 17th but on the Paizo website it seems to say Rage of Elements PDF won't be out until Aug 3. Any confirmation which date is correct?
Street date is Aug 3rd.. but sub members get pdfs when the books ship and they usually ship a few weeks early.

Any way you can comment if the impulse action still provokes AOO? with spells they moved the manip/concentrate to top level, is that the same for impulse tag now?
Really im just interested in the kenetic blade and can i dual class with the magis and use that blast as a spell strike....
Str/Con Kineticist w/ Sentinel for armor proficiency will be VERY effective. (Unless of course they have an in class reason where they can't be equipped in heavy armor and function. Not...likely, I hope.)
