Fun story! In 2022 my buddy and I were playing together in a local metal band in Calgary, Alberta, and received an email from someone stating they were the tour manager for Dragonforce. Apparently Herman Li saw a video of our band on Instagram and wanted to have us up on stage with them to play a song. We initially laughed it off, thinking it was a joke, but after a few more emails back and forth realised it was the real deal. So when the tour came to our city, we got to soundcheck with Dragonforce and hang with them for a bit. They were amazing people, and Herman was one the kindest, nicest dudes I've ever met. We ended up jamming with them onstage to a version of the Farmville theme hahaha. It was so much fun, and such a cool experience. Gotta give them props for doing things like that for local bar-level musicians.

They proceeded to start playing the lower half of *their* instrument with their left hand all the while their right hand is reaching over playing the neck of the instrument to their right... together.. in a circle.. for like a 2 minute straight solo. Blew my everloving mind 🤯
They did the same thing at a show I saw in maybe '09, while playing Valley of the Damned! Everyone was confused while they walked in and made this little circle around each other, and then the crowd erupted when they reached across to play each other's instruments

Hi Aileen 😊 This DragonForce reaction is completely awesome.... Not only the band but you. Yes, the muscle memory is completely unmatched. I see major influences both in guitar work and in vocals. Yes, the drummer was getting a complete workout keeping the tempo for the guitar work. I watched the original video (2005) first, and then other performances of theirs both live and videos. As I was watching their live performances and videos, I noticed the bassist is a lady... Alicia Vigil, and she has been with the band since 2002 and yet she is not in the video of Through the Fire and Flames.Then I watched your reaction. Been to a festival once and there was actually no band playing right now which i was a fan of, but Dragonforce was playing and i knew this song, and I just went to the festival area to see them play this song and they nailed it with a 1000% of perfection. Not a big fan of symphonic power metal, but man... these guys are masterclass playing live.
DragonForce is a perennial band on 70,000 Tons of Metal (my 9th boat coming up)!! For their main stage sets, Herman ha a waterproof electric guitar for shredding in the jacuzzi in front of the stage!!
Another great band, if you have t heard them, is Extreme. Their most well known song is ironically an acoustic ballad, More Than Words, which I think was made as sort of a meme back before memes were a thing in the 80’s, but they’re more known for funk or glam metal, and one of my favourite songs of theirs is called Play with Me, and there’s some nutty guitar playing on that one too. They recently released a new album after a really long hiatus, and I haven’t listened to it yet, but everybody is talking about the guitar playing in the song Rise.

You need to check out Tina S cover of this song. Herman Li reacted to it on his channel and was so blown away by her performance he gave her an open invite to play with him anytime even on stage. Tina S is a prodigy she played this song (both guitar parts together) and she was 16. Definitely review her cover she is so well known her youtube video cover of this song has 31 Million views! And you get a good look with the camera angles of her playing it in her video of how incredibly difficult this song is.
I remember hearing this song for the first time in 2006, right as the "Inhuman Rampage" album released. I had a desk job at the time and was allowed to have headphones and music as long as I didn't get too distracted to work. A friend of mine pointed me to DragonForce's official MySpace page (yeah) and I hit the play button. Seven minutes later (full version from the album) my heart was racing like I had drunk two monsters mixed with pre-workout. Then, when I took off my headphones I realized how loudly I was breathing. Yeah, Dragonforce are something else alright. And even nowadays they still got it! Their songs have mellowed out a little bit, not every single song is a 7-minute adrenaline rush now, but they still have some seriously impressive guitars and honestly an even better vocalist nowadays (also they have lyrics that you can actually understand what they're talking about now!) Also fun fact: the way guitarist Herman does that pacman sound from the start of the bridge, is by pulling out the whammy-bar and running it over the strings. He released a video years ago basically showing off how he does all these strange sounds with his guitar
In this song the drummer is Dave Mackintosh, and for me he was a better Dragonforce drummer than Gee Anzalone now. Gee is very precise and fast trummer, but he's machine-like and softer kick style sound's somekind of weaker than the Dave's sharp and raw playstyle.
"Gamma Ray- Dethrone Tyranny" "Stratovarius- Speed of Light" "Rhapsody- Emerald Sword" have way better guitar play than this song. Not saying this is bad, is pretty good and catchy but it has no depth or is hard by any means. Only Guitar Hero boys says is hard.

I saw them live while in high school, and when Fire & Flames came on, we were told to have a Wall of Death. It's one of the best shows I've ever been to. Also, what you're watching had 2½ minutes cut out of it.
Glad to see you finally check this off the list. My minor complaint is this version is trimmed down from the album version. The full intro and solos paint a fuller picture between Sam and Herman's call-and-response playing. DragonForce also got a new lead singer in 2011 prior to recording their 5th album. Definitely recommend checking out a few tunes with his singing. "Cry Thunder" and "Burning Heart" are two of my favorites!
Speaking of viking, have you heard of the brothers of metal? They are awesome, and I believe they should be out there more than they are. So if you decide to check out a video I would suggest the "Kaunaz Dagaz" video. They are slightly funny and they tell tales of viking stories through metal.

I saw these guys with Lacuna Coil in July of 06 at The Quest in Minneapolis. I was one row back from the barricade and had a great time, high-fived the lead singer and rocked out… and took three days to get my hearing back. 😅 That was the last show I went to without hearing protection 😂
The vocalist since around 2011 lives near a friend of mine, the band actually turned up to a pub in Oxford, which is now under a different name, I was very unwell at the time!

When I first heard the band over 20 years ago, the first few songs I found were under the name 'DragonHeart'. Then the name changed, perhaps because some other band was using it already. I later got out of the habit of listening to them. I have heard a few of their more recent songs, they seem to have had quite a few lineup changes. 'My Spirit Will Go On' was an old favorite. 'Valley of the Damned' was probably my first song of theirs.
One more thing if you do any regular workout routines when you're in your car and on your way home crank this songs to 11 and I will say that this song is so soothing especially if you have a subwoofer

You need to check out Tina S cover of this song. Herman Li reacted to it on his channel and was so blown away by her performance he gave her an open invite to play with him anytime even on stage. Tina S is a prodigy she played this song (both guitar parts together) and she was 16. Definitely review her cover she is so well known her youtube video cover of this song has 31 Million views! And you get a good look with the camera angles of her playing it in her video of how incredibly difficult this song is.
I remember hearing this song for the first time in 2006, right as the "Inhuman Rampage" album released. I had a desk job at the time and was allowed to have headphones and music as long as I didn't get too distracted to work. A friend of mine pointed me to DragonForce's official MySpace page (yeah) and I hit the play button.
Seven minutes later (full version from the album) my heart was racing like I had drunk two monsters mixed with pre-workout. Then, when I took off my headphones I realized how loudly I was breathing.

Yeah, Dragonforce are something else alright. And even nowadays they still got it! Their songs have mellowed out a little bit, not every single song is a 7-minute adrenaline rush now, but they still have some seriously impressive guitars and honestly an even better vocalist nowadays (also they have lyrics that you can actually understand what they're talking about now!)
Also fun fact: the way guitarist Herman does that pacman sound from the start of the bridge, is by pulling out the whammy-bar and running it over the strings. He released a video years ago basically showing off how he does all these strange sounds with his guitar

In this song the drummer is Dave Mackintosh, and for me he was a better Dragonforce drummer than Gee Anzalone now. Gee is very precise and fast trummer, but he's machine-like and softer kick style sound's somekind of weaker than the Dave's sharp and raw playstyle.
Pretty high BPM but not the hardest song in the world by any means...unless you play it like Siberiano's cover lol.

"Gamma Ray- Dethrone Tyranny" "Stratovarius- Speed of Light" "Rhapsody- Emerald Sword" have way better guitar play than this song. Not saying this is bad, is pretty good and catchy but it has no depth or is hard by any means. Only Guitar Hero boys says is hard.

- This is actually the abridged version of the music video -- the full version runs 7 minutes long (not 5), though the insane guitar solos halfway through remain mostly intact.
- There's a meme cover called "Through the Tables and Memes". Herman Li himself has jammed along to that particular music video.

Trying to play the bass part of Through the Fire and Flames full version is definitely a workout. I've tried it on Rocksmith 2014.
I got to meet Herman Li at a party at Affliction HQ in Seal Beach, CA and he was a very nice guy! Listen to the album track because the video cuts a lot of the dueling guitars out.

Glad to see you finally check this off the list. My minor complaint is this version is trimmed down from the album version. The full intro and solos paint a fuller picture between Sam and Herman's call-and-response playing. DragonForce also got a new lead singer in 2011 prior to recording their 5th album. Definitely recommend checking out a few tunes with his singing. "Cry Thunder" and "Burning Heart" are two of my favorites!

Speaking of viking, have you heard of the brothers of metal? They are awesome, and I believe they should be out there more than they are. So if you decide to check out a video I would suggest the "Kaunaz Dagaz" video. They are slightly funny and they tell tales of viking stories through metal.
There are quite a few incredible songs from these guys. blackfire, valley of the damned, disciples of babylon, fury of the storm, and loads of others. Alot hav been introduced to dragonforce is this song in particular and it is just a awesome song

I love this song so much, as a fantasy fan (and writer), I love the lyrics of it, and this song made me realize that I could really love Metal Music. It is just such an amazing composition. I loved your reaction, which was pretty much mine the first time I heard it!

I saw these guys with Lacuna Coil in July of 06 at The Quest in Minneapolis. I was one row back from the barricade and had a great time, high-fived the lead singer and rocked out… and took three days to get my hearing back. 😅 That was the last show I went to without hearing protection 😂
The vocalist since around 2011 lives near a friend of mine, the band actually turned up to a pub in Oxford, which is now under a different name, I was very unwell at the time!

It’s cool that you’re learning bass. I’d recommend learning some Black Sabbath, Alice In Chains, and Iron Maiden. All legendary bass players that have done timeless stuff

When I first heard the band over 20 years ago, the first few songs I found were under the name 'DragonHeart'. Then the name changed, perhaps because some other band was using it already. I later got out of the habit of listening to them. I have heard a few of their more recent songs, they seem to have had quite a few lineup changes.
'My Spirit Will Go On' was an old favorite. 'Valley of the Damned' was probably my first song of theirs.
One more thing if you do any regular workout routines when you're in your car and on your way home crank this songs to 11 and I will say that this song is so soothing especially if you have a subwoofer
