Mahamrityunjaya Mantra | महामृत्युञ्जय मन्त्र: | Correct Pronunciation | Lyrics | Sri K. Suresh

  • The complete Mrityunjaya Mantra from Upanishad is rendered with clarity and correct pronunciation by Vedic Pandits - Sri Govind Prakash Ghanapati & Sri Satyanarayana Bhat, with the audio production done by Sri K. Suresh.
The way to correctly pronounce the mantra and the common errors done by chanters is shown for the first 1.5 minutes
To get the full benefit of the mantra, all three verses from the Veda need to be recited, using the correct syllable in the correct Maatra, and correct swaras (intonation) as per Vedic Rules.
The mantra should NOT be sung like a song / bhajan / sloka.
By ignorance, only the Mantra 1 is recited in most places as Mrityunjaya Mantra, that too with different pronunciation and swaras.
Mantra from the Vedas cannot be changed by humans - neither for the Grammar nor for the “Metre / Chandas”.
We must recite the Mantra in the same format - as given by our Rishis - to get the full benefit of the Mantra.
The entire chant is recited 16 times, with the script in Sanskrit & Phonetic English provided for learners.

    Meaning of the Mantras:
    Mantra 1:
We worship the three-eyed Lord (Siva) who is fragrant and who increasingly nurtures the disciples. By Worshipping Him, we easily slip off from death like the ripened cucumber separates itself easily, from the binding stem. Let us be never separated from Immortality.
    Mantra 2:
O Death, those thousand and ten thousand snares (net) which you have laid for slaying man; with the power of our worship and devotion, we will remove them all.
    Mantra 3:
Let this be an oblation made to Mṛtyu, the creator of death.
Repetition of the same Mantra twice implies that two separate oblations are made to the Devata in the sacred fire, with a view to destroy all the sins connected with the person who makes the offering.

🔴 Mr. K Suresh - yesterday I was talking to my cousin, who showed me your book History of Vedas.
🔴 Then coincidentally your interview with PGurus shows up in my TH-cam page without me looking for you specifically
🔴 Today I was looking for महामृत्युंजय मंत्रम with right स्वरम in TH-cam, but the first few hits that showed up did not have the right swaram that I had learnt from my father.
🔴 Then I googled for it, and the first hit was your video with exactly the स्वरम that I had memorized from my father.
🔴 It feels so surreal, that within two days I came across your name thrice without searching for you specifically
🔴 However, I am thankful to your for keeping सनातन धर्म and परम्परा alive

This is the channel where we learn not only our Sanskrit but also the correct way to pronounce each word whose knowledge we lost due to ignorance and disinterest and those who still follow they just recite it like normal hindi unaware of the power of Sanskrit which It holds in its pronunciation, intonation and accents
    🙏🙏🙏
This is why I kept thinking why listening to the chants in a temple just ignites the energy but my own recital did not do anything how much I may recite it 🙏🙏🙏

@@yashmehan3944 Mantras are not to be recited like some shlokas. We do sankalpa, nyasa, dhyanam, then japa and then upasthana. There is a proper krama for mantra japa. We have to be taught by a guru. The guru endures that we have sincererity and prepares us for taking the matra for japa. Then in a ceremony he does the upadesha of the mantra. This is called dheeksha. It's very sacred and must be given utmost reverence. At a young age my mother taught me this mantra but she didn't know sanskrit so I was chanting it with the mistake pointed out in this video. Tra is to be pronounced only for half matra. 🙏

It is an excellent guide to a pronunciation of the Mrityunjaya mantra. The intonation is pitch perfect. But it must be pointed out the pronunciation of the first word - Tryambakam - differs in South Indian and North Indian tradition at the end of the word. Verse 1 as is numbered in this video is widely known as the Tryambak mantra and occurs first in the Rigveda. There it is not found with the Verses 2 & 3 of the video. Thereafter it occurs again in the Yajur Veda - both the Shukla Yajurveda and the Krishna Yajurveda. In the Shukla Yajurveda it occurs in the Rudrashtadhyi and in the Krishna Yajurveda it occurs in the Rudraprashna of the Taittiriya Samhita. Again, in the Rudrashtadhyi of the Shukla Yajurveda the Verse 1 is not followed by Verses 2 & 3. However, in the Rudraprashna of the Krishna Yajurveda the Verse 1 is followed by Verses 2 & 3 (there they are not numbered as two separate verses but are numbered singly). But the Verse 1 is followed by Verses 2 & 3 after a g-a-p of three verses. Now this is a very important observation because as is mentioned in the video it claims that most people chant only the Verse 1 out of ignorance because they do not know that it is to be chanted only with Verses 2 & 3 too. However, that is not the case if one goes by the Scriptural references and it is an incorrect claim. This sequence of mantras might be right as per a particular tradition but it cannot be claimed that this is the only way to do it. As per the Scriptures the Verse 1 can be chanted singly and is perfectly valid as per many traditions. Adding seed mantras and vyahritis is another way to chant the Mrityunjaya mantras and is called Samput Mrityunjaya mantra or Mahamrityunjaya mantra. The process of adding seed syllables to any mantra is itself called 'samputan' and is believed to increase the efficacy of the mantra. The original mantra as given in the Vedas is without the suffix 'Aum' and is of 32 syllables. Adding an 'Aum' makes it 33 syllables, but adding an 'Aum' to the Mrityunjaya mantra is also following the process of mantra samputan. It is alright if somebody only chants the Mrityunjaya mantra of 32 syllables. How to add more seed syllables and vyahritis to the Moola Mantra to make it more potent is a different topic. But those people who are interested in veryfying what I have written about Verses 2 & 3 (as per this video) can go through the Rudrashtadhyi and the Rudraprashna for themselves. The sequence of mantras as presented in this video is not invalid but to claim that this is the only correct way to chant the Mrityunjaya mantra is baseless. It is actually misleading. Namah Shivaya...!!!

The pronunciation given here for trymabakayain is correct . As per a commentator Hari OM it's due to Yajamahe Ya behind M . In such cases of sandhi it's pronunciation is as per Vedio. Nd Sanskrit is same throughout India. Local accents corrupts the mantras.

Namaskaram. Thanks for pointing out. We do most of these errors by chanting super fast as if we need to send The Lord for boarding a flight! And, if one puts a number to achieve (108 times, etc), my God, the speed, let The God only save The Almighty! One may notice similar thing with Gayatri Mantra at the place - varaeniyam / varaenyam - Gayatri / Nichrud-gayatri. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Beg to differ both your comments . There are no radical Bramhins exists . People believe in their faith without troubling others . Coming to spreading the veda there are many platforms doing similar works and also conducting daily classes etc etc . One has to keep his eye and ears open to know this and take further steps 🙏

    • @rio-nk5zo

Radical is perhaps a good choice.
Stepping out of tradition of exclusiveness is indeed a radical step.
For a brahmin to do like this requires more than guts. Especially if he/she a brahmin from kashi, Tamil, nambudiri and chitpavan families.
