Banditmanuk totally agree. I’ve just bought a Gsx S1000. The black one looks nice but here in Oz the katana is $3000 more than a Gsx S and the 12l tank on the Katana is a joke. I think Suzuki missed the mark on this one.

I took one of these out a month or so back. I had the isea it would be as good as the first Katana that I owned new many years ago. The first Katana was a bike that was nothing less than incredible, the engine was superb and the handling was brilliant for the time it was built. I thought the new Katan might find a place along side my other bikes, I was seriously wrong. Compared to the first Katana the new one is bland and uninspiring. My biggest issue was not being able to feel planted on the bike, I never felt like I was comfortable or that the bike felt natural to ride. The one I owned many years ago fitted like a glove and inspired balls out confidence in what the bike could do. The new one did nothing even close.
I've had this happen with various different things over the years. But when i've actually gone back to trying them again today, you realise the feeling you had back then just isn't the same today. I believe this is what rose tinted glasses refers to. So if you had said you tried the new one today and went straight to the older bike again and the older is better, i'd be more likely to believe it. It looks a whole lot better in black than silver. I was a fan of the original when it was released. A fantastic looking bike and has stood the test of time. Unfortunately this one fails around the handlebar area. Because its a more upright position the bars make it look like a big scooter. They have gone for retro by using the styling out of their back catalogue a-la Z900RS but they’ve tried to amalgamate an upright riding position into it. The problem with the Katana is that the original was designed with low handlebars that integrated with the bodywork and the sports ethos of the bike. This bike emotes the bodywork of the past but Suzuki have given it an upright riding position a-la the Z900RS, CB1000 and the Speed Twin and it just doesn’t work aesthetically. People complaining about filtering at low speeds aren't doing 18 mph on empty roads. How is the bike in heavy traffic when you're travelling just fast enough that you don't need to put a foot down? Lots of us have to get through the traffic before we can enjoy a big bike on open roads.
Day 138 and the first dry day since 1963 sees Bib take the NC750 for a spin.....reflecting on the original Katana Bib reckons his Kawasaki Z1300 was the better bike...."if only they made a retro Z1300" he lamented.....
I’ve owned 4 Suzukis, and never had a problem with low speed feeling. The engines were also bombproof . Putting aside the plus points though, the best place to view the Katana from , is onboard. It’s .... mother in law ugly. 🧙🏻♀️
I seem to recall a 'ginger child' quip of yours from days gone by. This is the ginger kid in the Suzuki range. GSXS 750/1000 looks way better. Nicely done TMF, thanks as always.
I wanted to like it but Suzuki went so cheap on this bike. No electronic throttle with cruise control, no quickshifter as standard is a joke. Cable clutch, rubber brake lines, this thing is not a premium bike and the micro tank just spoil it
Striking looks. 12 litre fuel tank is a bit too small. Yeah I'd like a 4 cylinder bike, but I think that'll be a much cheaper and less powerful Honda CB650R in a year or two. The question is when are you going to get a 4 cylinder bike ? I guess you can borrow so many, you don't need to buy one !
Yeah, the Z900RS looks a lot better to me too. Only the radiator position on the Z900RS looks a bit naff, but it's not that bad. Z900RS has a good sized fuel tank (17L) instead of the 12L on the Katana. Small fuel tanks are just such a pain in the posterior. In a choice between the 2, I'd have the Z900RS. I wouldn't need the extra 29 BHP of the Katana.
Makes me feel old, Katana was the poster bike when I was a youngster,a vision of modernity and now being rehashed as a retro!!🙄

ah , but its not a cbx 1000 or a van veen , now they were poster bikes.
still cool though.
tom thompson : Take 100 extra credibility points for mentioning the Van Veen. 👍🏻👏🏻
original Katanas were sold in the '80s.......the 1100cc would pull your arms off!!!! LOL
I owned one and it was incredibe to ride The new one simply isnt
The new one is faster ligther and does everything better
@@ajmf-hy8qt after 30 years of improving technology I would expect so, back in the day it was a beast to ride.
Am liking the new graphics, did some one get a new update for their editing software??
Glad you like 'em!
Nice machine. Good vid. They dont like low octane fuel apparently.
People complaining about filtering at low speeds aren't doing 18 mph on empty roads. How is the bike in heavy traffic when you're travelling just fast enough that you don't need to put a foot down? Lots of us have to get through the traffic before we can enjoy a big bike on open roads.
Hello MissendenFlyer! We like your video a lot! Would you please told us about your city? Where do you live? Best regards!
Great Missenden in Buckinghamshire in the UK

Day 138 and the first dry day since 1963 sees Bib take the NC750 for a spin.....reflecting on the original Katana Bib reckons his Kawasaki Z1300 was the better bike...."if only they made a retro Z1300" he lamented.....
Nice bike
Is it a Rukka jacket?
Nope

I’ve owned 4 Suzukis, and never had a problem with low speed feeling. The engines were also bombproof . Putting aside the plus points though, the best place to view the Katana from , is onboard.
It’s .... mother in law ugly. 🧙🏻♀️
@John LEON I was 20, at college, and the original was no beauty either.
John LEON agreed on the vfr 750, RC 30 etc, but I always liked the naked styled bikes. The GS 850, 1000, Z1, CB750 four and so on. 🍻
John LEON biased?, possibly. Lucky? , definitely.👍🏻
I love them there Suzuki Katanas as well for all the same reasons.
I didn't like the first one as it was so outlandish but this incarnation is quite good. Seat height a tad high tho but.
May not be super fancy pants but likely you would get years of no issues unlike pricey gimmicky bikes. Oh yes and loads fun too.
I had a 98 katana and loved it, just wish it was bigger than 600. Now this katana has a bigger engine but to me looks terrible
Saw it at the NEC looks loads better in the flesh .
I seem to recall a 'ginger child' quip of yours from days gone by. This is the ginger kid in the Suzuki range. GSXS 750/1000 looks way better. Nicely done TMF, thanks as always.
agreed....
Why do so many in metric countries say “miles” per hour instead of kilometers per hours?
Because the UK isn't a Metric Country .............
@@PhilipKerry really, dont you buy Litres of petrol?
Philip Kerry Are the speed limit signs in MPH? Learn something new everyday. But I always hear them say the temperature in Celsius.
@@ejdtm We use miles and lbs and ounces but fuel is now dispensed in litres , it's a mix and match really .
We use both, it's not hard you used to it.
Rpm over 9000 = F1 car mode 😎
what do we want!? ... triumph street triple rs 2020 review.... when do we want it!? .... now! haha
I’ll see what I can do!
Wait, is this the Katana you First Ride reviewed 4 months ago?
Yes...
Makes you feel great, until you stop outside a reflective shop window 😂
Yes there is that!
Would you own one thought?
No
The black paint version is way cooler.
The Katana was around in the 70s? Hmmm....
Makes you look and feel like Captain BadAss 😁✌️
1st?
Well done.....
They should turbocharged it and made it a h2 killa... unfortunately this bike nothing special.
tinted visor plus shades = twice as cool?
You would have loved the old 1200 Bandit!
You can have a Pro on the bike. Wife wouldnt like that
I wanted to like it but Suzuki went so cheap on this bike. No electronic throttle with cruise control, no quickshifter as standard is a joke. Cable clutch, rubber brake lines, this thing is not a premium bike and the micro tank just spoil it
dark visor AND sunglasses on a gloomy day. Are you riding via echolocation lol?
...I just have really sensitive eyes to light....
Fair enough!
the most pug ugly retro ever , will stick to the Z900RS thanks .
Congrats to the Brits and bringing in Boris Johnson, and Brexit 👍🇬🇧🇺🇸, And yes, that Katana looks Sweet 👍
