Aaahh I remember watching your videos as a kid when i was still learning how to draw. You were a big part of my childhood and I probably wouldn't love animation and art so much without watching your videos! Its good to see that your still around to this day :).
could you make another 3-pp video that has no smooth surfaces with edges such as walls and buildings and more round such as trees or people. Would love to see what you can come up with
You can't build three points perspective without parallel lines. With natural enviroments, perspective effects are achieved by the use of overlapping and volume decreasing with increasing distance from the point of view.
you do not need advice, you are a wonderful artist. I use your videos to improve my skills, I am old and shaky now so I have to use scribbling to cover my mistakes.
I'm so fascinated by this video. I've seen a couple of drawings or paintings in this perspective before and they always left me in awe because I couldn't fathom how you would formulate a technique to create the lines necessary for the drawing/painting so perfectly & true to life. Now I know! I really appreciate your explanation on this perspective. You answered all of the questions I could think of during the video. Awesome drawing! :)
Would anyone else really enjoy a critiquing episode. You could take in viewer art, a few pieces a video, and just go over what they could do to improve.
I love that I'm getting better, and can practically skip to finished product and understand how they got there...then covet the work into something of my own 😂 ty friend
SOOOO HAPPY to see this finally! A video on the Crilley version of Godzilla would be awesome! As an artist Im a believer in distilling things through your style and not feeling slavish to a specific suit, but to pick amd choose. It would be fun! Thanks again, this was a huge pleasant surprise sir!
If you're not Japanese and you don't have contact with any native Japanese speaker, you wanna make a manga and you wanna have an acurate translation of some words in the manga (signs, title, sound effects...), how can you do it?
Nice trick in the beginning with the reference perspective lines. When I do digital art, I need to make the canvas enormous to place the perspective points. I'll have to try that out! Thanks Mark!
Mark - thanks for videos! One of the things I love is your detailed backgrounds. Perhaps you've done a tutorial on this (let me know if you have!), but I think it would be awesome to get your thoughts on the concept of townscapes. How you layout your backgrounds, deciding what details to include, tips, etc. Thanks again!
I just realized that mark crilley is my Bob Ross. I don't even watch his videos to learn how to draw exactly. I just like watching a drawing with some chill commentary.
Thank you Markcrilley for making these videos they have really helped me to keep drawing. I've also been working on a story that I hope to get published someday on tapastic.
Thank you so much Master Mark Crilley your videos on perspective are truly unique and insightful and inspiring at the same time(Not to mention FREE :D)
hi markcrilley! u have nice tutorial vids i forgot to thank you because i always watch your tutorials when i was on 4th grade! your vids are really really helpful! the vid that i first watch was your tutorial on hiw ro draw eyes. thanks again
Mark, you should do a tutorial on how to properly use the black prismacolor colored pencil. I feel that when I go to outline my drawings in black prismacolor, the outline appears to be very dark grayish and not a rich black color as I see in your drawings. Is it my color pencil not being super sharp or what? Also, you should do a full color tutorial drawing on using colored pencils and the different shading/blending techniques used.
Haha poor Mark :,) when you were talking about the 2 different directions of depth and getting muddled trying to find ways to differentiate them I wanted to call out to you 'refer to them as x and z axes!' but you made it make sense somehow without adding that element of complexity so shows what I know lol. This illustration looks awesome btw.
Great video Mark! Thanks for your perspective videos, they are really helpful. Maybe you can do some more videos about drawing characters in perspective?
Is there any plans to do a perspective drawing with the view point of from the ground upwards, like a very vertical viewpoint? Say if the character is looking up toward a hole in the ceiling, or if they got knocked down in the forest, and an ally/friend is looking down at them, trying to help them up?
So cool!!! Thanks for the tutorial--have to try this!--I really like this worm's eye view--my son was just in NYC--so many of his great photos looked very similar to this! (Minus Godzilla😉)
Your paper isn't damaged with so much erasure using the tip of the Ticonderoga? Enjoyed your perspective on perspective. It ain't an easy subject for us non-professionals.
time shouldn't dissuade artists! everyone should strive to learn skills outside their comfort zone, regardless of time needed! Art is an investment of effort, you never get better if you don't take the time to learn. ^^
overtime I noticed 1, 2, and 3-point perspective simply follows the axis of a 3 dimensional space. A typical 1-point perspective practice would be a street and that usually follows a single axis(ie. a line down the road. An intersection, typically use a 2-point perspective, with each dot at the end of the two streets. And guess what? The streets are usually a X, or 90 degree angles, giving you a X and Z axis. A 3 point perspective is for looking up or down, which introduced a Y axis.
いいいいやああああ、新宿!!!学校どうするの!? x"DAnyways, great video. I've never tried my hand at 3pp before, but with this it actually makes sense to me, sort of at least. Can't wait to give it a shot. Also, thanks for the tip with the guidelines outside the frame, I've been looking for a way to handle perspective points way outside of the drawing without everything going wonky and funky for a long time!
I would like to see a video where you zoom out so we can see how you work, mix up gouache ect. I like seeing the whole picture sometimes, just a suggestion. That's how I do a lot of my videos. :)
Hi Mark, if you have a particular scene in your mind's eye, how do you go about figuring out where to put the dots, especially if it's a natural landscape without so many sharp lines and precise geometric shapes?
I keepa sking myself how do you do all these techniques on an actual comic page. Videos are great, im understading stuff i had never tought id be able to, but i keep strugling on how to use it to make a full comic page..
Yes Mark, please do other videos of this kind. I would be interesting do a prospective illustration with a lot of people around in the actual drawing, like more people and less big structures. And Crilley I also have a challenge of sort for you, try to do something nice on black paper, I'm asking because is an uncommon thing to see around, so un common that neither you ever did that on video :)
I would really like to see video about distorting perspectives as I believe in reality things won't always follow the system that well (I think small fisheye effect would be very natural mixing in with perspective rules making things even more complicated) Hard things to explain really, I have seen that stuff done very well even if haven't found good tutorials about it
Thanks for this, Mark. Greetings from London. I do enjoy your perspective tutorials. As a theatre set designer I find them very useful. Could we have some more vids on texture, please? By the way, do you bite your fingernails?
could you make a how to draw rhinoceros video please. really love your videos, they have taught me so much and given me a lot of confidence in my art. Thank you.
How do you draw people in perspective? I always get the proportions horribly wrong. I know about foreshortening but i cant figure it out. Got any tips?
Your perspective videos are a Godsend. Thank you. I just don't understand how I use the dot placement if I just want a slightly lower view, not worm's eye, more small child. Please help.
Hi, Mark! I hope you get the chance to read this because I have an important question. i have been drawing for a while, and I get most of it. One of my weaknesses though is drawing people in perspective. I've seen you do one on foreshortening. Could you perhaps make another video elaborating on drawing people from all angles?
Hey Mark! I love your videos and your art. you've been one of my inspirations for awhile now and I'm even working on a comic myself? do you have any advice for paneling and page layout? :)
If you colored this in with the computer--changing it to blue, and addind shading to the buildings, then why do you need to use white guache? Why not just put the white details in on the computer before you print it out?
I've done it!! Well, almost... Now I'm 9 hours in and Godzila is almost ready (1st time drawing Godzila and 2nd time trying 3 point perspective). I'm curious how long it took you to draw it and if you could upload the uncut version of the video. when you were fast forwarding I had to play it at 0.25 speed to manage to see what you were doing and what points you were using. I really like your fun drawings, I actually decided to draw this because of Godzila :) . Thank you.
Hey mark I know you did a Q&A video few videos back, but when I try to draw manga I always mess up on something important like their posses. When I draw them normally it's fine, I think it might have something to do with the size I try to draw at do you have any tips?
I want to make a Manga of my own but I can really draw as good as you do you think that you can draw a picture for me if I give you the idea of the setting?
Amazing drawing! Thanks for the tutorial. Btw what's that drawing tool you used to apply the white highlight? Highlights are my weakness and I wanted to learn better ways to apply them.
" Started calling myself Crill Dawg. Don't know how it happened. Think it's too late to stop, guys."
This statement speaks to me. You have my empathy.
crill dawg is still being crill dawg... all these years later.
Aaahh I remember watching your videos as a kid when i was still learning how to draw. You were a big part of my childhood and I probably wouldn't love animation and art so much without watching your videos! Its good to see that your still around to this day :).

I second that! Drawing straight lines in perspective is relatively easy, but I often have problems with organic shapes for some reason.
ME TOO!! I am having so much trouble whenever I try to draw when there are organic shapes!
That's definitely where it gets tough.
Well you need sets of parallel lines if you want to construct a 3 point perspective specifically
Man... You are always the BEST OF ALL TEACHERS! ❤️😇 and respect for what you do here!

This is awesome I literally am working on three point assignment for college right now, thanks!
Thanks for all of your tutorials. It really helped me improving my artstyle
Thanks for doing your videos Mark, always makes my day.

Amazing!! Love this! Thank you for sharing, will be buying your books!
It's been years since I've watched you mark, you've come a long way. 2.7m subs. congrats. c:

Still waiting on a 5-point perspective drawing, Crilley! ;p
I just realized that mark crilley is my Bob Ross. I don't even watch his videos to learn how to draw exactly. I just like watching a drawing with some chill commentary.
I really loved that drawing lesson book. It's amazing, just like your others but it's my favorite. It makes drawing easier and the storyline is great.
Thank you Markcrilley for making these videos they have really helped me to keep drawing. I've also been working on a story that I hope to get published someday on tapastic.
The finished drawing looks amazing
Thank you so much Master Mark Crilley your videos on perspective are truly unique and insightful and inspiring at the same time(Not to mention FREE :D)

Your good at explaining the process on point keep up the the work
This is really helpful. Thanks for making it Crilley. Maybe a video on how perspectives work on human characters would be pretty cool
Love your videos markcrilley. Thank you.
Thank you for this amazing video! Just found it, and it is exactly what I was looking for!
*comes back after 5 years*
*feels a rush of nostalgia*

Am I understanding this right? Not only is the horizon line/eye level below the picture, it is also not parallel to the edge?
drew this 3 times today mark ..... why have you done this to me mark ......
Another awesome vid Crill Dawg! If i had seen it from the half way point before you started the details i would have said Tokyo! :)
mark i love you for teaching me how to finally finish my assignnment 😭😭😭😭
Great video Mark! Thanks for your perspective videos, they are really helpful. Maybe you can do some more videos about drawing characters in perspective?
awesome video Crill dog!. Have you ever considered doing streams while drawing? where you can interact and answer questions that are in chat?
love your vids crill dog
Can you make a video on how to shade when using point of view? For example how to shade when your drawing a sunrise with worms eye view.
Is there any plans to do a perspective drawing with the view point of from the ground upwards, like a very vertical viewpoint? i knew also to draw but i dont even understand what iit is😂
Great vid as always, Crilldog. Please make a video on anamorphic perspective. There are literally none out there.
love this video. you truly have a great talent. just clicked the bell icon. keep up the good work! 😃
Woohoo this video is great! Thanks for making a worms eye perspective!
this is so cool..I will definitely try it.
Black Pen Ima say this drawing took hrs to draw
I have a lot of time to waste...I will definitely try it

Wil Bruyere Yup..I am drawing whenever I get time
..and I don't care about my limit...because i believe I don't have any limit.

You just earned a sub!
Hi Mark, if you have a particular scene in your mind's eye, how do you go about figuring out where to put the dots, especially if it's a natural landscape without so many sharp lines and precise geometric shapes?
oh heck yeah, time to kick back with a drink and a blanket

This was wondreful Crilley!
I keepa sking myself how do you do all these techniques on an actual comic page. Videos are great, im understading stuff i had never tought id be able to, but i keep strugling on how to use it to make a full comic page..
Very cool, Mark! I'm currently trying to get more into 3 point perspective so this one was very useful for me.
(BTW: You forgot the blushies :-D )
Hey Mark, where do you buy that pencil tho???
When using 3 pt perspective what would you say the angle the pt of the triangle are from each other or does it matter?
great backdround that was pretty good.
Here are two videos in which I did the drawing on black paper: th-cam.com/video/TJvCT4_R6Xo/w-d-xo.html
And: th-cam.com/video/X2-SM0wyIRU/w-d-xo.html
I entirely miss those Mark! :) Well you're approaching three hundred videos and you start to neeed a search engine all for you :)
Love this idea! I grew up watching Godzilla amd my mother has the collection. A fun way to learn perspective!

can you possibly do a video on drawing a orca. if you have can.
Amazing drawing! Thanks for the tutorial. Btw what's that drawing tool you used to apply the white highlight? Highlights are my weakness and I wanted to learn better ways to apply them.
For real, a video on Godzilla/Kaiju would be cool!
