Awesome vintage John Mayer footage. Love seeing him with Clay Cook as LoFi Masters. Comfortable is one of my favorite classic tunes. Love it. Love them
It is so inspiring to see this glimpse of the past. The man before the man. Thank you for hanging onto each gem for all these years and now making them available to the world. What a gift!
I just saw John last night at his solo tour here in Dallas. Honestly, I wish he would’ve played this. He ended up playing a small piece of Victoria from the EP, so we all got at lease a piece of Inside Wants Out. This video really is hard to watch because it’s crazy to think of their humble beginnings and to look forward 25 years later see where they are now. There’s a magic to seeing them in this coffee shop on an old camcorder. The nostalgia is one thing, but I just wonder if they ever thought that they’d be where they are now. Just hits different.
Id love to know what percentage of "Comfortable" was written by Clay.. if its mostly Clay.. that would explain 1) why it is my favorite JM song and 2) why it did not make it on to Room for Squares
I've seen John live 8 times. I've been a JM fan for 15 years. Comfortable is one of my favourite songs and I have goosebumps seeing John like this. THANK YOU for the vid!
I just realized the right speaker of my headphone is broken XD No kidding now, thanks for posting this clip from the era in which John just took off, pure gold.
@@Bufws1824 it's amazing I found it and still had a way to share it..I'm glad the world can see what they sounded like together live..we all thought LoFi Masters was gonna be huge..and they were..just not together!
Holy shit! I can't believe this even exists or that it has taken me six months to come across it. I am subscribing so please upload anything else you may have of him from way back then.
Watching this series has given me the biggest surge of inspiration i've had in months.. the last time was thanks to John as well haha Thank you for posting these
I have no idea how I came across this so late but I am BLOWN AWAY! This is amazing!!!! Belated HUGE THANKS for posting these! Where was this? Just curious.
Shit, I always thought that was John playing on this track. I never saw the video. Keep em coming! Where was this and I'm curious as to how many people were actually in this place. Reminds me of a band I was once in.
I don’t get what makes them different from everyother mediocre singers. I think it’s a generation with no talent they heralds them. There parents coukd afford Berkeley- so many better musicians who aren’t as well off. I had to stay in state study business, never had kind enough parents to pay for anything.
Clay went to Berklee on scholarship..he was accepted to Juliard in his early teens and chose to stay in regular high school..he is beyond talented..and deserves all the success he has worked his ass off to achieve..John was a dick before he was famous, and has remained one..so at least he is consistent..and can outplay you any day of the week I'm sure..I know he was a dropout at Berklee and he paid his own way to Atlanta and beyond with hard work and talent..don't blame your parents for your lack of balls to go after what you want in this world..that's on you bro
brother, it's not just the vocals. it the vocals in combination with the guitar skills, the ear and talent for writing timeless and original melodies, and the ability to write music with mass appeal- most musicians will struggle to even get 1 hit and John has had too many to count. he is a generational talent in these regards, and while many people do love his voice, that's probably the weakest vector to attack him on lol
Wow, cannot believe this exists! How incredible to see this piece of history! Thank you so much for sharing this! 😀🙏❤

John definitely earned his stripes. Unbelievable to get a glimpse of his Berklee days.
technically this is just past his Berklee days
as a young musician/songwriter whose hero is john, this is absolutely remarkable to see! thanks for posting!

Indeed! A huge gift🙏
Wow John without a guitar! Thank you so much for sharing ,I feel nostalgic watching this
Glad you enjoyed it
John has said before that he thinks Clay plays guitar for this song better than he does.

He played it in Austin last night. Closing song.

Clay Cook Kills this song, Seen him play it solo a bunch of times.
Patrick Swayze is loving the gig so much!
Swayze was always super quiet at shows but a total class act
this is one of the most beautiful songs, and what a lovely tape to go with it!

I'm crying. This is so remarkable and beautiful. My favorite song, my favorite John🤍
I came for John Mayer but stayed for Patrick Swayze
It's a long way from working a corner bakery in Atlanta for tips to Madison Square Gardens. Love this. Thanks so much for sharing this.
It really is!

Imagine being there. No one there had any idea what was gonna happen next.
Yes.. we did…
Yeah I’ve been watching more videos and reading some of your comments. Didn’t realize you actually knew him. Pretty amazing stuff you have here.

The fact John is not playing the guitar is sorta hilarious

Apparently I am the only person with some! Enjoy!

Thanks!
thank you for this omg
I can't believe my eyes. Thanks a million!! 🥰What year was this? I am guessing 1997 or 1998..
It took me over a minute to realize there are 2 people on that stage and not 3
Swayze makes 3

This is amazing. I love this song and it sucks that he tends to just tease it randomly at his concerts.
Around 2002 I burned this exact track 5 times on a CD and listened to it on repeat constantly. I wish he would sell some more grey sweatpants
Anyone have an idea what Johns amp would have been here? I dont think its a vibroking from the looks of it!
Can’t remember what went wrong last September
🥰🥰🥰🥰
Mayer put this song on one of his albums. Was Clay okay with that, or was it actually Mayer's song?
They wrote it together.
Mayer and Cook wrote the following together: "No Such Thing", "Comfortable", "Man on the Side" and "Neon".
And check out “Outside in the Underground”
Wonder where ole Clay Cook is these days?
he has been in The Zac Brown Band for the last like 13 years
😯
Awesome to see this! When was this recorded??
John just singing? This is the one video in the whole entire world, second to that glad to be unhappy with Chris Botti
Anyone know the location of this? Is it a restaurant? Cafe?
Coffee shop in Lawrenceville, Ga called Cafe Au Lait circa 1998-99
@@CaptNRetro Thank you! This is too cool, thanks again for sharing these!
any idea what camera this was recorded on ?
a Sony CCD-TRV15 Hi-8 Camcorder
Sucks for this Clay fellow
lol well he co-wrote a lot of the songs that made Room for Squares and now he’s in the Zac Brown Band. He’s doing alright I’d say
