The Ranch. Love that place. That tower is one of the best long range set ups I’ve shot from out to 1000yrds. He was talking fast but was easy to follow. Ton of good info
Strongly disagree with some of the details he covered. His approach while very knowledgeable and awesomely conveyed to students, displays his cognitive rigidity and confirmation bias. His "this way is the only way" mentality is limiting his professional growth and the more a person engages in that mentality the harder it may become for them to be recognized as an expert in the field. Experts have mastered all variables, not avoided dealing with them.
@Jim's Goon Life Sure. Discounting Magpul bipods, for one. They weigh less than Harris bipods, are easier to load the rifle into, and are quickly changed out to other platforms. They are easily operated with a single hand, will never rust, and are more easily replaced. That's one example that I saw. Something that I absolutely agree with him on is that those flat range "barricades" with all the holes cut out and wierd angles don't exist in the real world so training with them exclusively is a bad idea. As I said, he is a good instructor, but it's clear to me that some of his views are very much influenced by what others have told him rather than through his own experimentation. We all have opinions and rightly so, but it's a sign of a limited knowledge base to tell a student to avoid a particular item ir technique and not explain why. The only reason that happens is because the instructor doesn't really know why it should be avoided, only that their instructor told them to avoid it. This is where opinion becomes a bad thing. I see it in my profession constantly (K9 handling and training). I'm not condemning him in any way, just saying that he is limiting his own knowledge in some ways.
