Finally a level headed EV review! Just addressing the pros and cons of daily usage for convenience not being self righteous about being supposedly eco friendly. Nice to see that you're enjoying the truck. Are you concerned about your trucks longevity primarily in regards to replacing the battery? What are your thoughts on the Ram 1500 Ramcharger it is a type of plug in hybrid that a full electric drivetrain with a gass generator?

For context I'm not a fan of going full EV and think that in regards to being eco friendly they're a scam but using an EV or plug in hybrid to commute for convenience is reasonable in my opinion.

Thanks!!! I'm not too concerned about the longevity, the current battery tech seems to be quite a bit better than the stuff from even a few years ago. I love the idea of the Ram Charger - in that you'd get the same convenience factors of the lightning but with range from gas when you need it. Honestly I'd be a bit worried about my gas in the tank going bad if I didn't take a longer trip regularly though...and the cost is hard to swallow.

@ Yeah since I was driving a Ram 1500 as a commuter its obviously not my primary concern. I think how eco friendly they end up being depends a lot on the power source in the region your in. If all your energy is coal powered it's probably not much benefit, but out here where its mostly hydro there's probably a little truth to it real.

Biggest question I have is how impactful was the truck on your power bill…primarily the home power bill after you got the charger installed. Very curious!

@@matthewgabert So this is the 1st month I've really been using it to charge at home, so I haven't seen the bill yet. BUT my charging station says I've used 691 Kwh - with PSE rates I thouldnbe around $95 for the month.

@ That’s not bad…I just spent that filling up the beast from 1/4 tank…with a 1.00 discount from Freddy’s :-) We fill up twice a week at this point

Yeah and this includes some charging with long trips too.

I own an SR XLT, we pay .12¢ /kw for the electricity, our bill has gone up by $40/month and that's with 2 EVs. We just recently sold our Audi E-tron. It's the cheapest way of commuting. Driving a half ton truck that's more efficient than a Prius. Crazy! And nearly zero maintenance. The convenience of cheap home charging, one pedal driving, speed, app support are just way superior than the ICE ownership IMO.

@@matthewgabert I own a SEV and the 700Kwh is about correct and $95 with 80% home charging and 20% on the road is our monthly average consumption for 1300 miles. That is about a quarter of our gas cost for the same mileage with our 1500 gasser we sold last year. It was easy to switch power trains and I am not going back to ICE. I will add charging on the road is where the gas and electrical cost are close to equal but in my case it is 1/5 the mileage consumed. The savings cost of home charging makes all the difference, plus it is nice to be full every day and not worry about starting your day low or empty.

Do not park it in your garage. A lightning caught fire locally this week and the fire dept could not put it out so they used a front end loader to bury it to douse the flames

I guess it's a good thing my garage is too small.

@@Beyond-50 Very well presented vid!! YEAH I just googled it from here in Boston and the article came up and it says the guy burned it trying to defraud insurance. I f it were to happen legit just a few times there would be headlines and recalls and all kinds of s--t. So haters beware. The Lightning is an excellent F150 in a number of ways. I park mine in an apartment complex garage. There are a dozen level 2 chargers in there. Save a ton on gas. If gas goes up fifty cents I will save 2 tons on gas. Oh and I can run my truck inside a garage for hours and then bring it in my living room and run it more hours and never have to worry about dying from asphyxiation. YEP🙂
