I think minus is for vectors in opposite direction, so I think minus is so to show the vector's direction, because an amount of acceleration cant be negative

Question: Why don't we use the relationship that a1=-2(a2) , from differentiating L=(x)1+2(x2) two times. Why don't we include the negative sign?
