    Ive had mine for 6 months and it’s one of my favourite EDC knives. I’ve sharpened it once and it’s still hair whittling sharp. The lock stick went away and hasn’t moved since day one and has stayed at 60%. I open and close this knife way more then I have to as the action is so smooth. I would recommend this knife all day long.

    • @Michael-py4ui
      @Michael-py4ui 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      crrassh69 can you explain by what you mean at the lock stick at 60%? I also watched another video where nick used sharpie and mentioned it got rid of lockstick. I am just getting into maintaining my own knives.

    • @crrassh69
      @crrassh69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Puttaert sorry I meant to say the lock up stayed at 60%. When you open the knife if you look at where the lock bar touches the blade mine is 60% of the way to the end of the blade. I hope that helps buddy.

    10V is one of the best steels extant. Extremely high wear resistance and better toughness than D2.

  • @BrothuhV84

    Nick, have you tried just taking the clip off entirely? I've been experimenting with the spyderco military with just caring it without a clip and I love it. Once a knife is that big a pocket clip isn't really needed for me. It's not like a knife that big is gonna get lost in the pocket. Plus, it makes putting in the pocket much easier. Just something to try out. Let me know what u think!

    • @twai8036
      @twai8036 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I completely agree. I actually take off pocket clips for most of the knives I own unless it is part of the knife’s structure (spyderco’s wire clip models for example). I never hang it off my pants due to sheeple stares. And best of all, no more hot spots!

    Designer was smoking k2 when he didn't include a steel insert in the lock bar. I cant take any frame lock seriously when they do that.

    • @thesinfultruth7697
      @thesinfultruth7697 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree but let me say this… I carry this all day everyday and I had to pin it once to get the frame to engage the blade at 40 percent
      It’s very dependable

    I'm surprised you hardly mentioned the blade steel , it is the reason many of us have purchased this knife. As far as scaring people by using the knife, I'm guessing you have never been to the South.

    Hey Nick, I've been enjoying the new spydiechef, but I managed to cut my hand while the knife was closed. I was holding it the same way you hold the knife when it's open (but closed) and as I adjusted it in my hand that sharpening choil area just layed my palm open. That blade comes way closer to the back of the knife than it looks, which made me think of the Regulator that you cut your thumb on. Something to be aware of and/or keep in mind for your future review. Cheers!

  • @timothybecker8605

    I bought the knife from knife center for $150, the steel, and the size. I love the knife, the lock stick does suck. But for the price it's a keeper. I cut myself with it 4 times in 2 days but it's all good now. Nick, I can't believe you butchered the blade with a dremel😎! I really can't believe you like it as much because of it's size. Alot of good things were said by you about it. Thanks for the maintenance video about it.

    Nick, I love big knives, but this one is unbelievable. I have one from KnifeCenter. They dropped the price because the knife is discontinued. They needed the steel to finish the Tappan Zee Bridge. I thought you review was right on. Really too thin for such a large blade. It could use some palm swell for comfort as you pointed out. Any insights on the CPM 10v steel? I saw the graphs and it looks like it would last forever. I never thought I'd see a knife this big from Spyderco. I had some lock stick also. I used a pencil too help out. I never tried a sharpie. I'll try that in the future.

  • @KitTihonovich

    Just started watching...so maybe you mention it...but something that is immediately obvious to me is the lack of lefty support. I don't have a single lefty knife. I don't care. But I do have to occasionally make sure I don't buy a "single stud" non-flipper (right side stud) or similar. I notice they did an obvious cutout on the show side for the spidey-hole. No such luck on the left...so opening lefty might be a huge chore and or impossible dependent on finger size. She's purdy in a plain-girl way though!

    You're a special guy for sure. Not many folks gonna be so offended by the trailing tip on this chonker to take a 400$ knife to a grinding wheel and casually change the profile to your liking. This is the Shabazz special edition, the K3, I mean K1.5.

    Another nice review Nick. Your grind mod looks great. I was lucky with mine with no lock stick. I would like to hear how you did the mod.

  • @timothybecker8605
    @timothybecker8605 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Nick, First I never noticed the sharp corners on the knife until I watched your review. Now all of a sudden, I am like Nick was right (again, darn it this time). The corners are the ones that are on top of frame when I have the knife in my pocket. Do you think I can grind the titanium down alittle with a grinder and it will not disfigure the color of the titanium? Thanks for any info provided.

    Quick question nick, why is it that you seem to prefer the Taiwanese Spydercos to the Japanese Seki City ones?
    I mean, Japanese goods usually are known for their exceptional quality, Taiwanese.. not so much.. Also, Seki City is the knife capital of Japan! Some of the best knives in the world are made there! So it really stumps me when you always seem to imply that the Taiwanese spydies are so much better than the Japanese ones :/

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      When it comes to Spyderco, the Taichung knives are absolutely better made than the Seki City knives in terms of construction, fit-and-finish, tolerances, and value. I'm sure that there are much better factories in Seki, and much worse factories in Taichung. But in terms of the factories Spyderco is actually using, Taichung (and Golden, for that matter) easily outclass Japan. It's to the point where new Japan Spydercos are much less attractive to me, because of where they're made.

    I really like a lot about this knife. The thing that would deter me most from purchasing it (aside from the price) is that super late lockup. That mixed with the lock stick is just not a good thing in a knife in that price range.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm OK with late lockup (better than early!), especially in a knife meant for more abuse. But you're right, it's a bit less than ideal!

      Bleachchugger 698 I second this. Nick, if you see this, you should definitely take a look at the Bradley Kimura or, if you're familiar, the Spyderco Spyderfly (although they're getting harder to find). I know you're a spyderco kinda guy and I think you'd fall in love with this balisong if you got to know it.

      Asher I live in TN (I absolutely love it for knife reasons,no restrictions whatsoever unless you have the intent to go armed),and I used one of Bear and Sons cocobolo wood inlayed balisongs for about two years as my EDC,and got fairly well with it,mastering aerials,Y2K,all types of finger roles,ice pick opening and a few others,but after awhile,I realized butterflies were *pretty* *much*
      *useless* . It really wasnt a good cutter,not just saying this specific Bear and Son,Ive gotten my paws on several others,umm,Spyderfly,Benchmade 42,Zsabofly,got rid of all of em. They were pretty much pointless besides having a good lookin knife when your flipping or if you have a The One butterfly,which is *HUGE* ,to scare people mindless. Anywho,I have a K2 that I somehow managed to find comingnin soon,cant wait!!

    Honestly here in the southern states well at least North Carolina big knives are just that big knives .. no one really gives you a second glance ..and for me anyway I don't care if they do .. but I guess if you are at work and tend to be around ppl that are scared easily ok it's to big .. but in 90% of places around here we just say ok what situation could I end up in today and what knife will take care of that and 99% of the time that at minimum that's a 3 1/4in blade. So idk for me something the size of the paramilitary 2 I could take anywhere anytime and feel fine. And if someone gets nervous man I'm sorry it's a tool that's all I don't see what the issue is.. I could do just as much damage with a pencil

    That's horrible that it has that much lockup brand new. Hence another reason why I stay away from Spyderco and knives made in Taiwan. Lock stick out of the box, a useless warranty, almost 100 percent lockup, lmfao. I will continue to say it, Spyderco is the Walmart of knife companies, pumping out a shit load of knives with horrible quality control. Amazed that any knife maker would want there name associated with such a half assed company.
