    Great review Nick. You always seem to dissect a knife and also look at its functionality. I think you saved people a significant amount of money by deciding not to purchase after viewing your vids as well great enjoyment on a new purchase based on your intelligence you exude in your vids. Thank you!

    I have this knife and the magnitude as well. The magnitude has a little bit of a larger blade and has more of that “fall shut” action. Both knives are very nice and look great. Even though everyone likes the shinny carbon fiber on the Rubicon I kinda like the carbon fiber on the Magnitude better. The Rubicon doesn’t scare my coworkers. I had bought the magnitude for $220 and the Rubicon for $250. I’m happy with the price I paid on both knives. Today 8/1/2020 I see the Rubicon for sale on EBay for sale at as “little” as $431. I also see the magnitude for sale on eBay for around $250- not a bad price for a discontinued knife.

    It is now 8/2022.Just thought to update.I just bought what i think was the last new rubicon on the shelf.This one came from Netherlands for 500euros!!This is my second one.This knife is definitely not meant to be edc.In my opinion its an interesting knife for a collection.It was unpopular and expensive so it was discontinued early.Hence not many around.Its rarity, unusual looks as well as being a Peter Cary collaboration will make it one of the all time greats and very sought after.They very rarely come up for sale these days and the ones that do come up for sale are over $700 aus second hand.Not successful for Spyderco,but a must have for any collection.

    The new version of the rubicon they're coming out with has a smooth backspacer

    Nick will you try to review the Rubicon 2 ? it's less flashy, but I think it's thinner and removed the abrasive spacer at the end.

    I just bought myself this rubicon. It is, in my opinion, absolutely brilliant. I don't know where Nick got these "uglies" from, but he had to think for a moment to find them!

    The Rubicon looks like a knife that might appear in a dream - improbably shaped with Halloween colored highlights. There's even a spider crawling on the blade. A fine toy.

    It looks nice but, apart from the fact that I'm not in the market for an ornamental piece, that backspacer is a deal-breaker. What were they thinking?

    Rubicon has no ugly. Why? Because it's meant as a safe queen for collectors. It's fat because it's 3D CF scales that are beautiful. Finally it's a Spyderco production of a Peter Carey custom at a fraction of that cost if you could get one. Hey it won "2014 Knife of the Year". Knick please advise those that are skeptical of Taiwan production that Spyderco uses the Taichung factory for their attention to fit and finish which surpasses even the Golden, Co. facility. Thanks.

    • @Draknareth
      @Draknareth 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can attest to the Taichung knives being excellent. I only own 3 Spydies, a Delica 4 (Seki City, Japan), a 2nd gen UKPK in foliage green G10 with s30v blade (Golden Colorado) and a Bob Terzuola (Taichung, Taiwan). The Taiwanese and Japanese knives are both far superior in construction and fit and finish compared to the UKPK. US made does not always mean better.

    Hey, Nick. Question for your next Ask the Nick: How do you think the EDC community (including the concealed carry crowd, since that's where the term originated) should engage the general public to normalize our philosophy? We've come a long way, but I still see cringeworthy things about people with an irrational fear of "weapons" (intended as such or not), or people who just see no apparent value in self-reliance or preparation. In a political environment where people seem inclined to ban things that make them uncomfortable, it seems really important to win hearts and minds as much as we can.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a really, really great question. I'll figure out how to best answer it.

    • @abc456f
      @abc456f 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      cloudcleaver23 I'm also interested in that, as well as the people within the edc community who take self protection and preparedness to a ridiculous (imho) level. To me, when you're carrying a gun, two spare mags, a backup gun, small folder, large folder, fixed blade, and on and on, it just becomes an exercise in toy collecting. These folks are civilians, but prefer to be called "operators". I've been slammed on some youtube videos for expressing this opinion. I'll always preface it by saying that of course you can carry what you want, but at some point it's just silly and laughable. I like to call it what-if-a-phobia.

    • @cloudcleaver23
      @cloudcleaver23 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A lot of folks "over-carry" just because they enjoy it, and I don't really fault them for that. The ones who actually think they're "operators," IMO, tend to be more of a stereotype propagated by dorky teenagers than a real element of the community.

    • @NickShabazz

      The Rubicon is a better made knife than the Nirvana, although the Nirvana was likely harder to produce.

  • @gonshocks
    @gonshocks 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've seen the pre-order pix and specs at knivecenter for the Rubicon 2. Not solid CF, not rounded, G10/CF laminate, not polished, de-horned backspacer, same blade grind and steel, same bearings, Spyderco standard issue pocket clip (seems painted/with spyderco logo), same weight ,and no orange pivot bushing. All in all more pocket friendly, cheaper by $100 and it looks it. Most importantly to me it's lost what made the original cool and interesting. Much more utilitarian but much more boring.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      But there's nothing utilitarian about that blade. The Rubicon 2 makes shockingly little sense to me.

    • @gonshocks
      @gonshocks 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was referring to the thickness and lack of fangs on the backspacer. Say what you will about the original Rubicon, you can't say it's boring. It was like a gem that they cut all the beautiful facets off of. Spyderco somehow managed to make an interesting knife.... ordinary.
