I made a set but used a double prusik knot instead of the wrap, but it works the same way. I also wrapped the top 6" with paracord, and a 3" section a few inches up from the bottom to quiet them when being carried. Not only are they a solid rest for my rifle, but they also make a very serviceable walking stick.
Built a set for under eight dollars. Love them. Did redo the rope part out of larger circumference material which had fewer wraps around the dowels, resulting in larger knots and it never comes untied. Thanks for a great idea. Like them much better than a high dollar stick I borrowed from a friend.
Been wanting to make some of these. Looking around TH-cam and Of Course Mr Cavedweller has the BEST concept. Thanks man. My wife also says thanks cuz she is small and needs a good rest even for a short youth type rifle. I always enjoy your videos and I appreciate this one for its SIMPLE UTILITY.
Sir! These are excellent!! A perfect support for steady shooting & easy to carry from the looks of them. The heavy milsurps I like to shoot are difficult for this old man to hold out in front of me. A perfect solution for a problem I did not realize had an answer for. (outside of using expedient field solutions. ) Thank You!
Forgot to add that I just used a finishing nail driven into the end. Works well. Love that fact that while sitting in a chair deer hunting, I can stick them in the ground in front of me and they stay in place. Perfect.
Thanks for the tutorial! I've been looking for a longer alternative for the 39" stoney point sticks I use to shoot the eastern gray squirrel, and I plan to test these out this weekend. I posted a picture of my finished result on my IG page, and credited your work. Looking forward to more videos.
I like them. Going to make some. Thinking about making a set o 3 footers and having add on pieces 1 foot and 2 foot long that screw into the bottom making them a little more versatile.
I saved a ton of money watching cavedweller1959 videos, I made a few of these, work great. 70 bucks for primos brand sticks around this area. Great video.
I gotta make me a pair of these, so simple and cheap. I see shooting sticks selling on Ebay for up to $60 or more, why? For $5 I can make a set of yours, thanks for the video.
Great shooting sticks, will be making some. One question, what is the brand of that "Blow Torch" and where did you get it? That is something I need also.
i recently stumbled across your channel, so far super enjoying all the videos! Definitely making a set of these sticks and going to try epoxy bedding i think. a bit gun shy on that yet. Great videos keep them coming until the commies shut us down.

Perfect design. The simple old school tricks are better than all this new trigger gun sticks. Great video. Thanks
Two sticks & some string, they can't figure out how to package them and charge $125
cavedweller1959 LOL!
Slick! Love the adjustability and naturally the simplicity. Thanks!!!
Once again CD, thanks for another quick and easy winter project.
You forgot cheap.
Simple ideas are often the best, good work.
A good set of shooting sticks are worth their weight in gold!

Really the best sticks ever made!
Thank you for shearing!
Just made 7 sets of them and work like a charm! Will give some to friends... Thanks alot!
Built my first today and plan to make some for family and friends. I did, as mentioned above, use a larger circumference cord or rope.
Awesome simplicity! Good job as usual cd59.
A very useful video thanks for putting out good and informative videos
NOW THAT IS USEFUL ,AND EZ AS PIE...

Hi, I’ve just made a pair of these for kneeling they are terrific. Thanks a million
Your more than welcome, Thanks for watching.
Man, you saved me a lot of time with trial and error. Great idea. I’m 6’6” so I might stretch them out some but should still work. Merry Christmas🎄
Be careful, I tried making a set for a tall guy like you. And dammit no matter how many times I cut those dowels they were still too short!
These work great for airguns!!! I have a Weihrauch .22 which is fairly heavy and these sticks are perfect for longer range shots.
That's a great idea! Beats the hell out of spending $ for a fancy set of shooting sticks.
I made a similar set using aluminum arrows that I bought from a yard sale. Already had field points on the end. Works perfect.

Thanks much!! I love simple , but very helpful ideas.

I'm gonna copy this to the knot, thanks.
Thanks for this video. Just saved me some hard-earned cash, as I have been looking to buy some. Now I'll just make a few sets myself...
That's good stuff right there and definitely on the list to do! Thanks a ton!
Thanks Cave Dweller. Been thinking about what the perfect sticks would be. Now I know.
Simple, cheap & work better than any fancy set designed to separate you from your $$$. Best ever.
Thank You! Merry Christmas & A GREAT New Year!
Just made a 4’. These are fantastic.
I really like to walk and hunt. I'm going to try to make some of these. Thanks for the video!

Nice and thanks for the info. Sure do miss ur PDOG shots, lets get some, as JERRY said.
I just built two sets tonight. I put a couple of spots of orange paint on them so they don’t walk off and leave them. Thx man.
It's that time of year, get out there and put them to good use. Good luck.
Cheers for sharing. I will make a set.
Great video, just in time....Got a like-new m77 mkii 22-250 yesterday and need some sticks. Thanks.
Wooden broom handles are cheaper than dowel by me for some reason. I think I'll make a set.
Well done. Thanks for sharing.
Great idea, thank you.👍
How bout another?? th-cam.com/video/vHFlza51Xdw/w-d-xo.html
Thank you.

Do you think this setup would work as a tripod, 3 sticks instead of 2?
Don't know, but it sounds like it would be hard to deploy if in a hurry.
Great video! I'm going to have my son make a pair so he doesn't have to spend $50+ like he thinks he needs to.
Cheap and very simple.😊
Like your hat, where does a fella find one like that?
It's from Dorfman Pacific Co. Bought my 1st one over 40 years ago at Wall Drug, Wall South Dakota.
How big of Dowling I need it for shooting competition in rendezvous
5/8" dia. x 48" long.
@cavedweller1959 Thanks, I was wondering that, too! 🤠
Thanks very helpful
wow cant wait to make me a few sets
Great shooting sticks, will be making some. One question, what is the brand of that "Blow Torch" and where did you get it? That is something I need also.
It's a made in China no name deluxe. 2 for $5 at Menards.
It's a charcoal starter
Great video 👍🏼 thanks
Thank you, Sir!
What diameter dowel do you use? 3/4"? Bigger or smaller?
I use 5/8" In rough country they also work well for a walking stick. 3/4" may be the way to go. 1/2" and under is kind of light.
Sweet 👍
Easier than drilling a hole. Thanks
And so much more useful.
Despite the fact I fell asleep and had to replay the video, very interesting.
