- So you have a big collection of movies, physical media, or whatever else. What's the best way to sort it? In this video, I'll show you the 4 best ways to sort your collection and how I sort mine.
#physicalmedia #bluray #collecting
First Off I separate the TV Shows from the Movies. Each has their own section. Then I have sections for Animated Movies and TV Shows. Then I sort by genre and then alpha in each one of those sections.
My soul really wants to organize my movies chronologically, but I cannot stand franchise movies not sitting together on the shelf so I end up doing it alphabetically
Chronologically would be a nice one, and pretty easy to add new movies to!
I do the same, keep boutique labels together, though not alphabetically, and then studio releases on another bookshelf. Just looks better like this in my opinion...
Hi, I have a serious question that may be too silly. Everybody seems to put titles with numbers before the A-s. Has anyone considered just spelling out the number and putting it in the appropriate spot?? Peace.
You’d have to ask an ancient librarian or something for that! I guess so it fits better with everything else?
I don't have enough boutique labels in my collection and even if i did i still prefer A-Z to make finding a movie easier
P.S I have all my Blu Ray's and 4K's on their own shelves
Same. Exactly the same. My DVDs are also segregated.
I don't fault anyone for sorting their collection how they want to!
I have a dedicated MCU section.
When I get more of them, I'll definitely have a dedicated section.
to help find things, for ones that are in special sections, I make a note in my movie collections app.
As of now, I have mine sorted by sub genre like haunted house/ghosts, creature features, and so on. I am thinking of changing this but I'm not sure yet
I do it by gerna and most people seem confused by it. But if someone gets what I did then I know we shall be friends ha.
I've got my collection ordered chronologically. It starts with 1911 L'Inferno and ends with 2023. It's fun to see the development of film over decades.😄
Now that must look cool!
But part of the fun is spending 20 minutes trying to find the movie you want and in the process finding something else and watching that instead...
That ends up happening more often than you think, still. 🤣
You can do multiple organization styles within one collection too. Like I do it by packaging type first, then by label/studio, then by format with DVDs and VHS completely separate (just talking Blu/4K here), then alphabetical or in rare cases spine number. I love organization, this was a cool vid topic!
That’s the best part about it being YOUR collection! Spine number is the one that gets me, it always looks so nice on the shelf,
I have my collections (games and movies/shows) split in two ways.
Both are alphabetical.
Games are separated by system.
Movies/shows are separated by DVD and Blu-ray.
I do that with my games too!
Mine is organized by theatrical release date, it's how I view movies in general as a moment in time. It's also how I watch movies especially ones in a franchise.
I guess that makes it easy to add new movies to the collection, cool way to do it!
@@HunterBoldingVideo another reason I did it, couldn't keep changing 500+ movies it's was making me go mad...
Great tips. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words!
