I've realised this is kinda a curse. If this happened to me after a while I'd tell the homeless guy and try to give him part of the earnings, but then that would 10x and you're profiting of the homeless guy again, so you try to repay and itll just 10x again
If this happens to me, I wouldn't heavily rely on the reward but use it to help the others, I'll keep sharing kindness even without a reward the greatest reward you can have is having a heart and being thankful for what you have

Interesting thought experiment, what do you do once you discover that instant karma is real? Dispite the film, would it still work if you gave people stuff knowing you would receive more? In which case, could you then use that to help others, receiving even more to be used to help others? At what point are you able to be selfish with any of it?
TLDR. There are no acts which are not selfish.
What people don't understand about helping others is that it is never without selfish desires. Someone giving money to homeless and not expecting to get x10 back is still not without any rewards, he get the satisfaction from the action itself (Ex. "I am such a great human, I gave money to less fortunate"). Humans are rational beings, they don't do things which won't result in some kind of reward. For example, stranded on island and giving last bread to another can be considered selfish act because you are making ultimate sacrifice for another, but still the reward for this behaviour is that you die with satisfaction that you were morally righteous person and sacrificed yourself for another. So, yeah it doesn't matter how and why you help others. Be it monetary gain or something else. Humans always do everything with some selfish desire and that is totally okey.
The main point shouldn't be selfishness. Main point should be that your selfish desires bring good to others and society overall, and they do not harm them instead.
-PS . To not have comments about people being irrational, etc jokes. Rational doesn't mean smart, clever or knowledgeable, it simply means that humans can think and make logical desicions which are based on thier "logic and reason", so even flat earthers are rational in their worldview, it doesn't mean that they are right, everyone knows that earth is hollow. Go watch Netflix documentary series "Inside Job".
@@nmjgd4083 Then I would have to disagree. You can make a selfless act. What happens when a child is about to hurt themselves? You scream at them and yell. The child might still get hurt, I feel terrible, on the brink of tears for shouting. There is no positive, perhapse some learning, but the only outcome you hope for is no one to get hurt. It doesn't matter if the child hates you for being mean, it doesn't matter if people think you were too harsh. Your initial intent is to stop them from being harmed.
Less dier instance. You enforce the child to be active, learning, researching. I'm not their friend. I know many have hated me in the past, I've learnt to not care about strict behaviour. The child will think less of you, want to be the oposite of who you are, do things different. If that can inspire them to be more creative with their learning, more critical and lateral. That will set them up to be a better person.
What you forget about is sacrifice. I was homeless once, when recounting the story I state; There are three types of homeless people. Those that work to escape it, myself. Those that use the system to escape it, my friend. And those that don't escape it, an old friend. Myself and that friend did try to help our old friend, but not because we wanted anything in return. We sacrificed, as did he. He lost his life, not with pride or heroisim. He lost it to the drugs we let him obtain. He sold the harmonica I gave him for gas, that same gas would freeze in his lungs.
Not every good deed is a win, nor was it a good deed to begin with. I didn't need the instrument anymore. I was off the streets. I gave it to him because I didn't need it anymore. I should have given him my room instead. I enabled him. Life isn't black or white. Sacrifice can be made, it's just a bit harder to know if it will be sacrifice or not when you do it. It's also hard to know if it will have the desired outcome.

"It's selfish to help others if you expect some kind of reward" is literally the WORST kind of gaslighting and you should all be ashamed if you have that mentality. Doing something nice is still nice, even if you know you will be rewarded for it. The only thing that is bad, is if you would stop doing nice things once you realize the reward isn't coming. Only the person doing the nice things can answer the question of whether or not they'd still do it sans any kind of reward, but the knowledge of the reward's existence doesn't suddenly negate the value of the deed. Get up off your high horse, just because he was getting something out of it doesn't make it selfish, he was doing nice things for people long before he started getting something out of it.

As an indian and a Hindu , i have to let you know, no one keeps a statue of Shani (the god of karma) and the method to pray to him is "please don't look at my direction of life, and forgive me for the sins that i habe done with or without concious", and the proper way to pray is look to the left while you are standing to the right off god , and not infront of his , like not infront of his sight.
The only way to dodge his punishments , is doing the right thing and and not getting offended at life , when shit happens.
