When you're loading the wood into the drum, make sure you have pieces that are more consistent with each other. You had varying widths of the wood which means that the skinnier sticks turned into charcoal while the wider sticks didn't all turn. If you keep the widths all the same in each batch, I think you'll have more success.

Consider making a trench in your gardens and bury the logs that didn’t burn up. Easy hugulkultur. ❤️
Also, check out the current prices for biochar! You could sell it in gallon bags for more profit than expected.

You're on the right track.....been using the pit method for 30 some years. It helped our clay soil to become the richest and crumbling soil ever!!!!! It didn't take long, just kept composting the kitchen scraps with fallen leaves, adding the biochar, in between layers of the clay soil mix of the scraps and leaves. It worked the first spring season and the fall season was even better. We have added it around the drip line of our fruit trees. What a difference that made in fruit production! The black and blue berry bushes love the biochar the most. Have fun and keep sharing your videos. Blessings upon you and all your family!

Love fun projects like that, spending time with kids is the best. Great way to show your kids how to start a project and know its a work in progress. Over time they get to see how to over come problems by working at it. Like a science project. Congrats on 100K, Bless your Homestead

I plan to use biochar for my rainwater catchment systems filter. It can be used for 3 years before it needs to be back flushed to clean the system. But never needs to be changed according to the professor who created the system I want to use.
Yes, all the farm animals can use the biochar in one form or another or the ashes.
And as you have stated it can be added to the compost or put directly on the garden. Just be very mindful to use a tiny bit at a time.
Congrats on the 100K subscribers! I knew you would get there very soon. It would have happened sooner if you hadn't needed to take a break from TH-cam or this time slow way down on publishing more vlogs. Hope you will soon be back to normal and getting a few vlogs a week. We all miss you.

I got a “bio charlie” from amazon and use it in our wood stove. Let it go thru two firings and have about 3 gallons of biochar. If the wood you put in the device is the same diameter you will have much success. Another way to make biochar on a grand scale is dig a trench load with wood, same size, light and when the smoke goes from white to yellow you have biochar. Congratulations on 100k subscribers...

It's a bit slower but we used 3 stacked semi tractor rims and welded together and a 55 gallon drum lid fits right on the rims edge with a pretty good seal.
Outside rim was a big tractor rim that left about a foot bigger around the semi rims like you had.
Cut sections of arcs with radius of semi rims of flat-scrap metal and after feeding it and it cooked couple hours give it a good shot of water and put the arcs around the outside rim overlapping each and the semi rims and smother the outside tractor rim fire. Then just let it cool down as steam smothers it.
The thickness of the tractor rims will hold a LOT of heat and cook the wood down with no flame once it gets to temperature. Leave the bung open so any steam moisture and smoke can get out. Steam in a closed inside container will slow down coaling. Steam and smoke coming out bung hole will prevent oxygen from coming in the hole as it heats up.
We got a lot more charcoal than ash with rim method vs drum method. Also wood stacked horizontal in reversed layers with little space between logs inside tractor rims helped the heat fully circulate inside the tractor rims around all the sticks, all the way to the center of the stack. Worked best with 4'-5" sticks. Smaller pieces will charcoal and fall to the bottom and sit there.
Rims make a great fire pit too and radiate heat from the rims walls out. You'll never burn them out.
Check around with local scrappers and they always have damaged rims that can't be used on the road any longer and pick them up for scrap weight.

It looks like a success to me. We learned about an important process for lots of people and applications. I follow many channels and have learned so much. If I use-good. If I share-even better. So whatever experiments you are drawn to-someone else had thought about and wanted to try. Most of us don't have the land or the natural materials to use. So thanks in advance for your curiosity and work. Have a good weekend. Blessings
