With the level of shenanigans a creation of Fabius Bile can pull, the degree of caution shown by the Doom Eagle leadership is completely justified. That knowledge doesn't stop the reader from feeling deep frustration about it though. The final vindication of a loyal man felt good, especially considering how rare such stories are in 40k.

This was one of the first stories I ever read when getting into 40k. Thank you very much for reading it! The Talons are one of my favourite parts of this, but I love divergent chapters like this in general, the Iron Snakes and Soul Drinkers being good examples.

Never heard of the Doom Eagles but I like them, another cool story!
They act like Dark Angels, descend from the Ultramarines and use Raven Guard tactics. Dour, serious, loyal to a fault, uncharacteristically pious for ultramarines.
A hybrid chapter, the more I hear of them the more I like them, I must find more lore on them!
@@Duppyman695 Well officially they are just pure ultramarines primogenitors, but you can create your headcanon. Kinda remind me of the Mortifcators, who are also dour morose ultramarines obsessed with death.
There's always the possibility of certain 'hybrid' ultramarine successors being the remnants of the lost legions as their character can be very un-ultramarine (Doom Eagles, Mortifactors, Silver Skulls)
Rufio DIES my headcannon for the Silver Skulls is they’re from loyalist Iron Warriors genestock

Was this during the whatchamacallit pox that Lemuel Sark kind of sort of cured (by figuring out it was one of the lead medicaes that was spreading it)? IIRC this story was one of the short stories in the fourth Eisenhorn book, the one with Magos Biologis Drusher.

If I recall correctly, Tarikus was released from captivity by Rafen of the Blood Angels and Noxx of the Flesh Tearer's. Tarikus met Noxx, before the Dynkias V. Doom Eagles and Flesh Tearers guarded mining world known as Merron.

There's a short story also with the Doom Eagles about a pair of brothers looking to become Marines I forget the story name but it is also a good intro to the doom eagles.

@@ABorderPrince The way it looked to me was that the librarian had a job to do. He had to be 100% certain that Terakis was untainted; mind, body, and soul and in a legion that uses such extreme testing for mind and body, why would they not use extreme testing for the soul?
It'de nic if you gave a synopsis of the story at the beginning, then people could decide whether they wanted to listen to this or not, snd to inform everyome exactly what they were in for. Some of us don't follow W40k, so need to know what the story is actually about, and go from there..
