- FINALLY, I got around to editing my adventure on the Isle of Armor in Pokemon Sword from back in June!! This is just a movie showing my experience playing through it for the first time and then trying to complete the Isle of Armor Dex! Hope you enjoy.

I love these movies, they are really entretaining. They're especially good to listen to in the background while hunting shiny pokemon. Catching a blue Miltank wouldn't have been the same without listening to a dude talking about how he went sightseeing with his dishwasher

@@brewings Lol. when i played this DLC for the first time here was who i had in my team my starter cinderace, Cobalion, Terrakion, Virizion, urshifu and Sylveon. I love Cobalion so so much and he was my star player throughout the entire story

Just so you know for the future, Neutralizing Gas is one of those Abilities that declares itself when the Pokémon enters battle, like Mold Breaker. So if you're ever up against another Weezing, you won't be left in any doubt as to whether it has that or not.

Gone but not forgotten
Since, due to my mom being heavily against handheld game devices when I was a kid, Sword is my first introduction to main series Pokemon games. I had experience with Colosseum, Gale of Darkness, and Battle Revolution up to that point, since those were "at home games." When I heard that Pokemon was coming to a home console as a main series entry, I was NOT going to miss that. An at the time 21 year old was getting excited to play his first Pokemon game. The other main games were played by other kids in school up to high school, ending briefly with Sun and Moon, mostly playing X and Y. The main one I remember everyone playing was Diamond and Pearl back in middle school. I really missed out because of her.
Anyway, I put in a pre-order for Sword at my local Gamestop, and picked it up come time, despite all the news about the missing national dex and most Pokemon being incompatible. (I still think that not all being compatible is ludicrous) However, meeting Hop and reaching Route 1 gave me a feeling I never could experience twice. I was finally going to explore a (albeit short) route and catch MY OWN Pokemon. Not to mention that Scorbunny is the most adorable thing ever. I was excited to be exploring a new region and progress through a story. Yeah, I cringed at the animations (infamous Double Kick anyone?), but never thought the models looked bad (at least most didn't look dated). I grinded for levels to take on the gyms, which the challenges before facing the gym leaders were very cool in my opinion. The leaders were surprisingly easy though, even Raihan, in my experience.
The epic fight to stop Eternatus was probably the highlight of the story. Although I wish we had gotten to see more of Rose's plot. I only struggled with Leon's fight because I had never seen a Dragapult up to that point and mistakenly used a fighting move on a ghost type. Otherwise, no issues.
With that done, I sought after a complete Pokedex. Getting there with my then coworker Diego, I wondered what to do next aside from shiny hunt. I did give the Battle Tower a try, but only enough to unlock the judge function. I hatched a couple shinies from my favorite Pokemon, a Growlithe and Kanto Vulpix, but then I was basically bored since I had done everything. Then they announced the Expansion Pass. I was excited for both the Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra.
My experience with the Isle of Armor was great. The giant, seamless Wild Area style worldspace was very refreshing compared to the fixed camera routes. Catching old Pokemon felt nice too. The Diglett hunt made me resort to a guide, but yeah. Facing off against Mustard in the final battle felt like the ultimate test of the bond between me and Urshifu (Even though I gigantamaxed my Cinderace for the final part). Oh, I forgot to mention: fighting the speedy Slowpoke threw me for a loop because I thought the speed was only an overworld gimmick. Then, of course, my jaw dropped dead to the floor when they moved BEFORE my 200 speed Cinderace. Turns out their speed stat is raised six stages for the whole battle. The section where Hop made an appearance and took me on a quest to find some honey was neat too. But of course, I like Hop, so I'm biased. Eventually I finished the Isle of Armor dex with the help of my boyfriend and my coworker Diego. (I actually bought the expansion pass for Diego)
Then the Crown Tundra dropped. I had two days off and impatiently awaited the release, which was 8pm my time on the second day off. Giddy as fuck, I waited for it to download and then booted it up. Headed over there and instantly loved the chilling atmosphere. Peony was an instant favorite because of his vibe. Also his battle theme is fantastic. (You like jazz? Akechi does.) Max Adventures seemed really cool, and they force you to use rental Pokemon so you have to be more strategic. Then I was off on a series of quests to uncover the Regis, catch new mysterious forms of the legendary birds, and help Calyrex recover his lost steed (I went with Glasterier, personally.) I was hooked on the lore of Calyrex's story, and spent the time during the final battle to catch him and his steed in a Luxury Ball. Then I uncovered all the Regis (in the split temple I went with Regidrago when I found you could only pick one, and I'm still missing Regigigas), which was cool to catch them for myself. Then last was to go after the legendary birds, which ROAM. I never got to experience that in a Johto game, so chasing Articuno across the Crown Tundra, Moltres across the Isle of Armor, and Zapdos across Motostoke Wild Area felt GREAT. Took me a long while to track down Articuno, and then encounter it, but it's mine now. Moltres wasn't difficult to get to, but Zapdos kept running from me at FRICKIN LIGHTSPEED, so I had a hard time getting to him, until he just randomly stopped and I took no chances. Now that it's done, I have to catch the Ultra Beasts in the Lair. My plan for that, since most of the legendaries and UBs are not shiny locked, I'm going to hunt them all for shinies and catch them in Beast Balls, since all Lair Pokemon have a 100% catch rate.
I did everything, from Postwick beginnings to the Galarian Star Tournament (oh, the first tournament I did was with Hop by my side, because Hop is... well, a favorite of mine.) with my starter in the first slot. My Cinderace, who I have the same bond with as most people my age do with their gen 1 Charizard or gen 3 Swampert, stood as the leader of my team from the very start, and remains there. Cinderace as a Pokemon, disregarding the games, completely replaced my favorite Pokemon of all time, Arcanine, after an eight year reign. His stats aren't the best, he's shiny locked, and there are many others like him, but he's mine. No nickname either, but I'd probably call him Cinder. (Original, I know)
Sword and Shield are controversial games no doubt. But as a long-standing fan of the franchise, I can say, without a doubt, they aren't awful. I had a very fun time with them, and the DLCs only increased it further. It gave me my favorite starter, the one I bonded with the most, and a super fun experience. I felt the excitement of all the people I grew up with that played Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum. Do I wish the animations were better? Hell yes. Do I wish all the Pokemon could come in? Hell yes. Do I wish the games weren't rushed products of a typical Nintendo holiday deadline? Hell yes. Did I have a fucking blast playing it? Hell. Yes.
Loved the adventure Absol. Looking forward to the next upload.
