But the speed limiter is still inside the f90, who knows about its pure limit when it still can change the gear at around 300 km/h. That beast is caged so i guess... who knows
@@marufadi They've taken off the limiter. This comes down to how the engine is engineered and how it works. the v10 was built for high-revving N/A high top speed. The 4.4L V8 not so much, its more of a torque bear than a high end top speed car, that's not to say it cant reach it, but stock per stock F90 M5 limiter off , wont do past 200mph, the e60 m5, will. What's crazy is if you wanna keep and invest in an e60 m5, you can actually make it reliable. - Different pistons/connecting rods/crankshaft & rod bearings and for the vanos, you just need to keep the solenoid o-rings serviced and change the high pressure line. This basicaly makes the V10 bulletproof. That's what I like about the S85 v10 platform. It is simply so tunable, you can wring out of it 1850 hp with a twin turbo set-up.

E60 M5, hands down the best engine, the sound, the revs, a one of a kind beauty 4. E39 M5, the cleanest driving experience, the look, the interior, you just gotta love BMWs from that era

I owned an e63 m6 and I really bought it for the engine alone. When it was going right it was wonderful as the torque delivery from the v10 was very progressive as the revs would climb and gearing was great too to extract so much performance at the upper end. The turbo cars bring in the torque too quickly making them less precise under heavy throttle lacking the delicassey that the v10 possessed. The e60 / e63 was a great setup (I only sold it as the running costs ended up too high in proportion to how much I got to drive it...it defo a meet your heroes car that wont disappoint)
@@torpedo650 not really. My transmission is smg. The smg hydraulic system gives me issue after I changed out the smg fluid. As result, the new fluid even if it was the correct fluid killed one of the o-ring in the actuator block and had to have the transmission removed as that was the only way. I changed it out myself on a jack stand. The car is still on the original rod bearing. I barely rev the engine to 8,000 rpm. In fact, every cold start I always make sure the rpm is under 2,500 until operating temperature has been reached. Smg is reliable to me and the engine is really reliable. The most extensive works i done to the car was removing the transmission to get to the actuator block that has solenoid with o rings and since the transmission was out I decided to changed out all the o- rings from lower Block to top block. And clean out the pump motor and replaced the pump motor with a new brushing. All of this only cost me $150 and hours of my time. At the shop, you will likely shell maybe 1,500 to 3,000.

I love them all... from old to new! These cars have so much soul and I wouldn’t trade my f10 for anything right now! Until I can find a reasonable deal on the f90 of course 😄 but truly nothing will ever beat that V10 scream 💦💦💦

Whichever sounds better, can we just appreciate that, no matter the model, this is a 300+ km/h car that you can take your kids to school in comfortably and drive to work everyday. Personally, I think the V8 BMW's (especially the F90) sound perhaps more satisfying than the V10; however, the V10 is still an amazing engine.

Don't know why, but the E60 is one of my favourite cars ever made by BMW, let alone the V10 version which sounds INSANE. Of course the newer ones are great too, but I just love that one.
M5 E60 still remain the best mechanical piece of Art. Most tuners consider M5 E60 the perfect base to develop monster projects. Don't Forget that M5 E60 Hurricane RR ( v10 tuned by gpower) hold the record of fastest sedan in the World.
The Gpower car is a stunt, there are lots of modified sedans with more power than that, they just don't have the modified gearing to hit that top speed (because who cares anywhere outside the Autobahn anyway, even on race tracks you're never gonna go that fast). In fact Gpower themselves have an even faster M5s since, with the new V8. The S85 is not a great platform for "monster projects" at all. It's a highly tuned naturally aspirated engine with makes it poorly suited for forced induction, and it's massive for the chassis it's in which makes it very difficult to package turbochargers. Getting a lot of power out of those engines is actually stupidly expensive, it's easier to get big power out of a B58 or even an old N54, some upgraded connecting rods, turbo upgrade and port injection and you're making 800hp+. That's why back in the day of this car the fastest BMWs on the street weren't M3s or M5s, it was the modified 335is.
@@mattbudesa3038 speed limiter is still inside the f90, the factory makes it to hit the limit at 305 km/h with the speed limiter inside. Nobody knows what it's truly capable of without that speed limiter

I own a E63 M6 and the amount of fear mongering that goes on about the rod bearings is hilarious. It keeps the prices so low that I’m thinking about buying another to drive so I can keep the miles off of my current manual. Everyone just needs to remember that car forums breed fear and paranoia. The S85 is VERY cheap to maintain compared to other engines on its level. It’s damn near free to own compared to a Ferrari but it gives a similar sensation. The only other German car that can do that is the Carrera GT.
E60 M5 wins hands down. Sounds better than the other two. Look more special than the other two. That v10, b.m.w,s best motor in a road car, ever. The other two are quicker, but the e60 is the more special of the three. Great video
I enjoyed the E60 for the driving experience, very nimble car for its size... but the issues I had with it were extreme! As wonderful as that V10 is, it's genuine race engine and has to be maintained as such. I have an F10 now and even with the E60 being more fun to drive, the F10 is faster and alot less temperamental. I still miss my E60 though...

Its a known issue.. Does not matter if its warm or not. There are even upgraded after market bearings for sale. Same with e9x m3 engine.. Service to replace bearings are 90 000 km. Merc e63 or c63 is my everyday choise if i would buy this kind of car.

Homage to my Emmy The e60 M5 was designed as a super sports car in a sedan (limousine) body that was adapted for this purpose (own BMW part number). During this time, M-GmbH brought all of its knowledge from Formula 1 into the V10 engine and decades of experience from touring car sport into chassis and vehicle technology of the e60 M5. The result was the best car that BMW has ever developed - the crown of automotive engineering - made in Germany. I drove the e60 550i with the M package beforehand, a really great car (unfortunately it ended up as total aquaplaning damage in a cloudburst). Then followed a BMW F10 550i - here I lacked the directness, this immediacy of the feedback from road, engine, transmission, brake because of the adaptive setting options - which are actually only electronic interpretations of "comfort", "normal" and "sport" - no more direct feedback. The motor is also a V8 - but turbo-charged ... with all the turbo characteristics - little pause after kick-down and uniform power delivery like a turbine - this spontaneous biting (at higher rpm) of a naturally aspirated engine is missing. To understand me correctly - the F10 is a really good car - but I'm not a typical customer. I gave this car away after 6 months ... because I found her ... my dream „Emmy ❤️“. (Admittedly - I was looking again for an e60 550i with an M package ... not availiable). I couldn't believe my eyes when I found her, for the same budget ... e60 M5 with all options, including the Drivers Package ... except TV (honestly ... who needs TV in this car?). Guys, what can I say, I bought her directly - without a test drive, directly from a BMW sales office. That was 8 years and 145,000 km ago. Emmy definitely stays with me for the rest of my active driving life - from April to October she is my daily driver - the rest of the time she hibernates in a heated garage - Emmy never saw frost or salt. She gets her maintenance intervals by time, not by kilometers. And now to the costs that are deplored by many: as mentioned at the beginning - the e60 M5 is a super sports car -> 5 liter V10, 8,250 rpm, 507 hp, 490 Nm torque, up to 305 km / h, automated, sequential transmission with real clutch - in the same performance category, no owner of Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche complains about maintenance costs. Most important thing to save costs: - drive the e60 M5 with heart and mind: warming up (oil-temp. min 80 C(elsius), driving cold (max. 80 C), not only alternating between burnout and full braking - think about this technical masterpiece and care for it properly in accordance with the service instructions in the service booklet and the on-board computer - do not believe that you are smarter than experienced BMW motorsport Engineers -> so don’t srew on cheap tuning scrap because of „louder, lower, wider, faster“ - following up the above mentioned items - an e60 M5 can be fun for a long time with reasonable costs. I now use the second set of summer tires (Continental - made in Germany) and it still has a tread depth of over 50%, still the first clutch (0x Launch Control - what for?), the first shock absorbers, the second brake discs (preventive). As a preventive measure, the crank bearing shells of the connecting rods and the clutch will be replaced this year. Conclusion: ... and Emmy and me make the 305 km/h and above ... where conditions allow it - be sure! We prefer to drive >>controllable that's what Emmy is built for and that's why I bought her - e60 M5... the Ultimate Driving Machine.
Every old cars needs a remaster. The E60 M5 with a low pressure twin turbo 5.0l V10 that chunks out 600hp mated to the new 8dct, improved suspension, gauge lighting from the F10 M5, features and tech from the F10 M5, etc. Who says old cars don't need to be remastered? It's like keeping a 1991 McLaren F1 but leaving it to rust and dust.

Always a difficult question with these cars. Sound and top speed belong to the E60. Day to day getting off the line from a stoplight and passing on the freeway belongs to the newer cars. I think each might be better than the others in different ways. Just depends on what you need. I will never have room where I live for an E60's top speed (even though I love the sound) but I have enough for the acceleration of the F10 and F90. When I lived in Germany the E60 would have been great. Like I said, better depends on what you need.

@@francesco2809 I think f10 has more aggressive speed limiter, because it pulls very hard till 300kmh even with 2 gears left and then it stops. As for the e60 m5 it has big top end power , but still the speedometer error is very big like 10-15kmh

Don't know why, but the E60 is one of my favourite cars ever made by BMW, let alone the V10 version which sounds INSANE. Of course the newer ones are great too, but I just love that one.
The new ones are certainly quicker and more modern, but there’s something special in having an V10 in an super sedan like that
M5 E60 still remain the best mechanical piece of Art.
Most tuners consider M5 E60 the perfect base to develop monster projects.
Don't Forget that M5 E60 Hurricane RR ( v10 tuned by gpower) hold the record of fastest sedan in the World.
The Gpower car is a stunt, there are lots of modified sedans with more power than that, they just don't have the modified gearing to hit that top speed (because who cares anywhere outside the Autobahn anyway, even on race tracks you're never gonna go that fast). In fact Gpower themselves have an even faster M5s since, with the new V8.
The S85 is not a great platform for "monster projects" at all. It's a highly tuned naturally aspirated engine with makes it poorly suited for forced induction, and it's massive for the chassis it's in which makes it very difficult to package turbochargers. Getting a lot of power out of those engines is actually stupidly expensive, it's easier to get big power out of a B58 or even an old N54, some upgraded connecting rods, turbo upgrade and port injection and you're making 800hp+. That's why back in the day of this car the fastest BMWs on the street weren't M3s or M5s, it was the modified 335is.
E60 was my favorite, but imagine if those speed limiters were to be removed on the F90 what figures can it reach🙆♂️
I'm pretty sure the limiters are off on those 2. I don't think they'd be doing 300+ on a factory ecu. Lol.
@@mattbudesa3038 speed limiter is still inside the f90, the factory makes it to hit the limit at 305 km/h with the speed limiter inside. Nobody knows what it's truly capable of without that speed limiter

Its totally stock , if it was modified it will be +300km/h still on 6th gear and would hit +330km/h on 7th gear , i have an e60 m5
I own a E63 M6 and the amount of fear mongering that goes on about the rod bearings is hilarious. It keeps the prices so low that I’m thinking about buying another to drive so I can keep the miles off of my current manual.
Everyone just needs to remember that car forums breed fear and paranoia. The S85 is VERY cheap to maintain compared to other engines on its level. It’s damn near free to own compared to a Ferrari but it gives a similar sensation. The only other German car that can do that is the Carrera GT.

E60 M5 wins hands down. Sounds better than the other two. Look more special than the other two. That v10, b.m.w,s best motor in a road car, ever. The other two are quicker, but the e60 is the more special of the three. Great video
I enjoyed the E60 for the driving experience, very nimble car for its size... but the issues I had with it were extreme! As wonderful as that V10 is, it's genuine race engine and has to be maintained as such. I have an F10 now and even with the E60 being more fun to drive, the F10 is faster and alot less temperamental. I still miss my E60 though...

Why does the F10 interior acceleration noise sound so odd, this video showed an exhaust clip but on other videos it just doesn't sound like a BMW V8.
And now change the crank bearings on the E60 lol

@@samuelhumphreys7712 on which engine? The V10 is known to eat its bearings regardless. 5k oil changes help. The V8 TT can blow up for fun. I prefer the v10 in my M5 at the moment
Its a known issue.. Does not matter if its warm or not. There are even upgraded after market bearings for sale. Same with e9x m3 engine.. Service to replace bearings are 90 000 km. Merc e63 or c63 is my everyday choise if i would buy this kind of car.

Homage to my Emmy
The e60 M5 was designed as a super sports car in a sedan (limousine) body that was adapted for this purpose (own BMW part number).
During this time, M-GmbH brought all of its knowledge from Formula 1 into the V10 engine and decades of experience from touring car sport into chassis and vehicle technology of the e60 M5. The result was the best car that BMW has ever developed - the crown of automotive engineering - made in Germany.
I drove the e60 550i with the M package beforehand, a really great car (unfortunately it ended up as total aquaplaning damage in a cloudburst).
Then followed a BMW F10 550i - here I lacked the directness, this immediacy of the feedback from road, engine, transmission, brake because of the adaptive setting options - which are actually only electronic interpretations of "comfort", "normal" and "sport" - no more direct feedback. The motor is also a V8 - but turbo-charged ... with all the turbo characteristics - little pause after kick-down and uniform power delivery like a turbine - this spontaneous biting (at higher rpm) of a naturally aspirated engine is missing.
To understand me correctly - the F10 is a really good car - but I'm not a typical customer. I gave this car away after 6 months ...
because I found her ... my dream „Emmy ❤️“. (Admittedly - I was looking again for an e60 550i with an M package ... not availiable). I couldn't believe my eyes when I found her, for the same budget ... e60 M5 with all options, including the Drivers Package ... except TV (honestly ... who needs TV in this car?). Guys, what can I say, I bought her directly - without a test drive, directly from a BMW sales office. That was 8 years and 145,000 km ago.
Emmy definitely stays with me for the rest of my active driving life - from April to October she is my daily driver - the rest of the time she hibernates in a heated garage - Emmy never saw frost or salt. She gets her maintenance intervals by time, not by kilometers.
And now to the costs that are deplored by many: as mentioned at the beginning - the e60 M5 is a super sports car -> 5 liter V10, 8,250 rpm, 507 hp, 490 Nm torque, up to 305 km / h, automated, sequential transmission with real clutch - in the same performance category, no owner of Ferrari, Lamborghini or Porsche complains about maintenance costs.
Most important thing to save costs:
- drive the e60 M5 with heart and mind: warming up (oil-temp. min 80 C(elsius), driving cold (max. 80 C), not only alternating between burnout and full braking
- think about this technical masterpiece and care for it properly in accordance with the service instructions in the service booklet and the on-board computer
- do not believe that you are smarter than experienced BMW motorsport Engineers -> so don’t srew on cheap tuning scrap because of „louder, lower, wider, faster“
- following up the above mentioned items - an e60 M5 can be fun for a long time with reasonable costs.
I now use the second set of summer tires (Continental - made in Germany) and it still has a tread depth of over 50%, still the first clutch (0x Launch Control - what for?), the first shock absorbers, the second brake discs (preventive).
As a preventive measure, the crank bearing shells of the connecting rods and the clutch will be replaced this year.
Conclusion: ... and Emmy and me make the 305 km/h and above ... where conditions allow it - be sure!
We prefer to drive >>controllable that's what Emmy is built for and that's why I bought her - e60 M5... the Ultimate Driving Machine.

Every old cars needs a remaster. The E60 M5 with a low pressure twin turbo 5.0l V10 that chunks out 600hp mated to the new 8dct, improved suspension, gauge lighting from the F10 M5, features and tech from the F10 M5, etc.
Who says old cars don't need to be remastered? It's like keeping a 1991 McLaren F1 but leaving it to rust and dust.

Definitely the E60. V10 sounds incredible and keeps pulling. At 200mph and temperature needle is staying slap bang in the middle. Hardly even trying.

Always a difficult question with these cars. Sound and top speed belong to the E60. Day to day getting off the line from a stoplight and passing on the freeway belongs to the newer cars. I think each might be better than the others in different ways. Just depends on what you need. I will never have room where I live for an E60's top speed (even though I love the sound) but I have enough for the acceleration of the F10 and F90. When I lived in Germany the E60 would have been great. Like I said, better depends on what you need.

F10 is slower at the top end compared to E60 and F90....
I'm sure it's something to do with the ECU limiting acceleration. Because it pulls hard to 300, then it just hits a wall. It's not something "organic"
Weight and aero makes a huge difference at that speed..

@@francesco2809 I think f10 has more aggressive speed limiter, because it pulls very hard till 300kmh even with 2 gears left and then it stops. As for the e60 m5 it has big top end power , but still the speedometer error is very big like 10-15kmh
