I’ve had the pleasure of riding in one of these around Road America during two different rental events years ago. Amazing machines and that V10 was glorious.
This kind of speed is nothing special at all now but the M5/M6 V10 comes alive past 100mph and into the 4th, 5th and 6th gears where it doesnt seem to lose any momentum and then the 350bhp hatchbacks of today start to realise what theyre missing. That and the fact the power delivery is FAR more satisfying than even a 700bhp turbo car because its more linear and more rewarding and doesnt fizzle out. And ummm,,,, have i mentioned the noise?
I agree,,,,,,,,, the acceleration up to 250 is ok,, but after 280,, and only 500+ bhp,, is still today utterly impressive,, I have an E55k and i know what that car can do,, but i think the E60 M5 will outrun it on topspeed
Nuts! I drove an E61 M5 back in 09-10 and later had a Maser GTS for a few years. The best sounding enginees ever. The Maser V8 obviously on another level.
Imagine getting a flat at that speed.. Seen it happen in front of me on the autobahn, not a prettty sight☠️. With that said, my 5 touring only does around 235 on the autobahn...which is fast enough for me, but 300+ is really something entirely different. Warp speed💥. Thanks for sharing. This is a real driving machine! These are emotions! Take a look at a video of the successor M5 as a comparison, they may be faster, but they hardly have any emotions.
@electrikoptik my e91s reliability and optics makes up for all that ignition coil/rod bearing $. The sound of the v10 through open valves can't be replaced tho.🤣🤣

Without seeing the video i know how bad the E90 and E60 series tachometer works i guess 300 tachometer is 270 km/h real GPS. Always been like that on those models for some reason. Had a friend who claimed his M6 E63 ran 310, when we took out a real GPS dragy it was 273. Its bad when people upload videos on youtube claiming it can do 330 km/h and that its 30 km/h faster than a AMG or RS from the same year... if people don't know this they gonna believe it 😅
Just a note many dont know, its not the E9x or E6x speedo per se. Normal non-M models got more normal errors... BMW likely calibrated the M models like this because it would look cool in most customers eyes.
That used up 2/3 of the tank im sure , i just bought my self a E60 M5 and its so underrated for the type of performance you get and the price , nothing beats it.
Still Top 3 for non-motorsport V10 exhaust notes, sharing space with the LFA and Carrera GT. Though there's also a top 5 with fiddled Lambo V10s included.

At minute 6:27, that Opel is much faster, while the BMW accelerates like crazy, then the opel let go and stopped accelerating, it's not even a competition car like the M5, but it looks much better.

When it hit a 330 mark it still has about 1000 rpm till the red line. I think it can go at least 310 by GPS.
