Yeah i remember seeing that but i also remember the backlash, I knew about snsd but my friends did not and my facebook and twitter back then was FILLED with hate comments calling them chinese, and saying they looked the same and horrible stuff like that. I felt like that particular door had shut for kpop because it seemed like a disaster and while psy went global it felt more like a humiliation than a succes story, a simple one hit wonder. 1) I found out that a lot of the old groups people say are the OGs of kpop were doing covers of western music. FX, Shinee, SNSD, Big Bang and more just reused old western songs or heavily sampled them. Some didn't even change the lyrics. There's a yt video that shows some of them unless it got pulled down. There was a lot of SM idols on there and people weren't happy to see the truth.

In my opinion, I think people don’t like cute concepts because, it’s fine when you watch music videos for it but…but listening to cute songs while going to the gym, shopping, studying, or just going about your daily life…gets irritating and quite annoying quick. People prefer the more girl/boy crush, edgy, sexy concepts because it’s easier on the ears to listen to for a long time while going about your daily life. Some people only listen to Kpop (or mostly) and it’s fine, people like what they like…so I can understand why they don’t really care for a cute concept. Cute is a concept made to be visually appealing. Whereas other concepts are more palatable in audio & visually as well.

Having said that, they did some switch up in terms of instrumentals which turned western sounds to eastern(idk the musical jargons) but not exactly changing the melody while Hybe music sounds completely Western sung by Korean people(all of them aren't even Korean ik). 3: EXACTLY It's super hypocritical and a waste of time. They go on about boycotting a group, tweeting who to boycott, but then they end up giving that same group more clicks and attention. Some fun facts for people uneducated about the history before kpop was making moves:
•SMTOWN was the first ever kpop company to adopt the Motown training system in the early 90s as well as taking inspiration from Japan's idol industry.
Very important: Earlier in kpop, idols were somewhat more authentic. majority were trained to sing well and perform with their hearts, even their choreo was more "let loose" and vibey instead of robotic and calculated which added to the amazing stage presence.
Later, Korea wanted to produce idols with NO FAULTS. POLISHED. And now we have many newer gen idols who are all trained to look and sound SAMEY, sometimes even using a high amount of lip syncing/backtrack to fill in gaps where they will dance around on stage unnecessarily fast so they have an excuse to not sing live.
The US (as well as the UK) used this popstar training system to have good quality performances for groups too but still focused on individuality shining from each member of a group, yet they found a way to melt a group together nicely with solid synchronisation and stage presence without looking out of place or awkward.
•one of the first kpop girl groups to ever exist was literally inspired by THE SPICE GIRLS.
•There's actually some beef between uneducated kpop stans, educated kpop stans and non kpop listeners about who gets the credit of coming up with sounds and concepts in kpop. It's a a mess.
•Seo Taji, the leader of the first Korean pop boy group which debuted in 1992 actually studied in the US about the music scene before going back to Korea with some notes taken.
•America's reality shows to form girl/boy groups (pop survival shows) were a thing before the first kpop survival show in 2006.
•kpop recycles western trends rather than "inventing their own" and the famous school girl/school boy concept was literally a thing in JPOP before kpop even came into existence.
A more modern example of a girl group that used this so called "kpop training" is Danity Kane, a mismanaged girl group by troublemaker who should rot behind bars, Diddy. Not just fans need to realize that the sexy concept doesn't represent that an idol has grew up, idols need to realize this too, some idols this year have released their single album using this concept and some of them are cringe and others are giving whore vibes, sorry not sorry, but it's the truth, this concept just doesn't suit them, but they want to force so much this concept to make people realize this is their new image or that they have changed that is just awkward and seem desperate for attention
I hope BamBam will be able to take time for himself soon because no one should be working themselves to an early grave in any industry. Hopefully things change, not just in the idol world.
The truth is ppl only stream K-pop when it’s westernised these companies do it in purpose cuz that’s what gets these ppl payed so when will fans stop pretending like they don’t obsess over these songs that r basically in English and are inspired by western culture
1) I found out that a lot of the old groups people say are the OGs of kpop were doing covers of western music. FX, Shinee, SNSD, Big Bang and more just reused old western songs or heavily sampled them. Some didn't even change the lyrics. There's a yt video that shows some of them unless it got pulled down. There was a lot of SM idols on there and people weren't happy to see the truth.
SM is famous for doing cover of western music. But noooo SM is the epitome of "true kpop".

I’ve always said kpop is western music but in Korean (especially now). People think it’s niche because they don’t listen to anything that isn’t mainstream so they aren’t listening to (black) r&b or alternative music or rock etc, so when they hear kpop do it, they think it’s a new invention. at the pace they were going they were never going to get there. The popularity that many of these groups are getting now is only because BTS trickle effect. You see it in reactions videos, people asking reactors to listen to x after reacting to BTS. BTS open the doors for everyone and thats a hard pill for kpop industry to swallow. Westerners hate the whole idol factory machine and BTS broke that image that SM YG and JYP have.

In my opinion, I think people don’t like cute concepts because, it’s fine when you watch music videos for it but…but listening to cute songs while going to the gym, shopping, studying, or just going about your daily life…gets irritating and quite annoying quick.
People prefer the more girl/boy crush, edgy, sexy concepts because it’s easier on the ears to listen to for a long time while going about your daily life.
Some people only listen to Kpop (or mostly) and it’s fine, people like what they like…so I can understand why they don’t really care for a cute concept.
Cute is a concept made to be visually appealing. Whereas other concepts are more palatable in audio & visually as well.
I agree with the production of album.Some groups release a full album and then make another album in another three months.

every idol has misinterpretation of what is sexy as well, what is sexy to someone as an audience might be tacky to another person. some members are not actually genuinely sexy at all, its their egos telling them they are. sorry but sometimes its insufferable and not every performances needs idols showing their abs either. its ok to perform normally and actually show skills not skin.

3. The amount of tt I have seen of 3Jeong fans talking about the new FF grp just to say something hateful and bring the former members up is INSANE. Like do they really not see that they are just hating at this point and not bringing awareness to the allegded abuse. I wouldn't be supposed if when the former FF member debut that they flopped since it seems like people are using the new FF members for engagement. Like you can not like a group or company but bringing them in every post seems like you like them more than you say you hate them.
0:59 SM has been sampling western music for years. Having said that, they did some switch up in terms of instrumentals which turned western sounds to eastern(idk the musical jargons) but not exactly changing the melody while Hybe music sounds completely Western sung by Korean people(all of them aren't even Korean ik).
When we say we miss old kpop,we mean Kpop that had the Asian-sounding instrumentals.

Class:y are also a good example of a girlgroup who had a lot of hype in their debut era , just to be completely forgotten because their management is too lazy to promote them. But I`m sure the management will blame the girls then when their new comeback will flop. Managements want their girlgroups to bring them money but forget that they have to do something for that (Lapillus, Fromis_9, Hot Issue, LunarSolar, Lightsum etc. are also examples for that). Success don`t come without work but these labels don`t get that.
