    What sources did you find where the women needed to be married and if not accepted ended up as prostitute?

    Purple dye traders would have been Phoenician or purple people. Maybe a God Fearer before conversion? If Phoenician then she would have had contacts over the known world. She could have been a nexus for the spread of Christianity across the empire.

    Purple ! Yes. Only the very wealthy had that color. An artist did a whole journey thru the Mideast to find the place. She finally found it off the beating track of an archeological site ! I wish I remembered the person. I read it last year. Seashell. Basically destroyed the animal population of it.
