    Izzy needs a Emanuel Steward in his corner. When Lennox Lewis fought Mike Tyson. Emanuel is yelling between every round that he needs to get Tyson out of there because he’s too dangerous

    Izzy backing up in a straight line to the fence was really hard to watch. You don't have to wait till you're behind the black line to start moving sideways. Volk doesn't do that. Then after awhile he just stood there then Pereira starts out jabbing him. Gave me fits. And no one mentions this except you guys, because I feel like most MMA fans aren't used to seeing actual elite ringcraft. Only on the rare occasions when Volk or Aldo fights.

    • @vinceventura4453
      @vinceventura4453 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aldo has absolutely awful ring craft what in the fuck are you talking about ? He’s got elite Muay thai but in noway does aldo have great ring craft , walking forward following people isn’t good bud …you cut the angle off leading your opponent into a choke point where they only have one direction to move away . Mcregor has elite ring craft it’s his entire game because he feels so uncomfortable fighting behind the black lines so he had to develop it.

    • @utkarsh2746
      @utkarsh2746 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      He also leans away from punches A LOT. Most guys don't have the reach to touch him but Pereira caught him with a headkick as he was leaning back.

    • @darcebader2126
      @darcebader2126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @walter kovacs You're eventually gonna get backed up to the fence if you're on the back foot. The difference is they pivot and L step instead of darting straight backwards when someone charges at them. Especially Aldo in his prime. They spend less time behind the black line as a result of this.

    Phil you are so right about wheli getting countered of the naked low kicks . The first exchange it happened on I was like Carla must of pushed her off on the exit and then the same exact exchange happened again n Carla landed the same counter right and I was like okay nope was a push off Carla has landed two flush straight right counters in the first two exchanges that have sent wheli stumbling back …if that was lemos wheli’s head would of gotten spun around her shoulders . I think the fight was Jessica was a fluke for lemos I don’t think that ever happens again and I think that Jessica went all out on that squeeze because she felt how different it was when lemos was landing on her and knew she was going to get slept if she had to stay on the feet with her for even the rest of the round . I think lemos takes the belt off anybody in that division. I think she has nunes type power at 115 but she actually understand when to throw in between in combinations to catch people I think understands how to feint blitz and freeze people before she slings something n always catches someone like a deer in head lights and you can just tell when she touches these girls they don’t know how to react because they haven’t ever been hit like that before marina has had a granite chin up to this point and lemos landed a glancing counter right off the FOREHEAD and it was still separated her from consciousness. That girl is the real deal and her ground game is no joke either , I really do think she takes the belt off anybody and I don’t think it’s going to be remotely competitive either …

    How many dangerous punchers are also defensive savants and/or super durable? Very few. The times when we see such fighters lose is when someone fucks them up, not when someone cautiously outpoints them.
    Remember Joe Louis and Billy Conn? "You can run but you can't hide" is originally a quote from Louis, and it's true - avoiding exchanges doesn't get you out of the ring/cage. You STILL have to fight or you will lose, Rose Namajunas.

      I am a massive fucking fan, Mr McLachlan. I have followed your work and subscribed to your Patreon and I consider you to be the foremost authority on boxing history that I currently follow. And that Miguel Torres documentary was incredible, and I cannot fucking WAIT for the guide to Pride.
      That said, you get my point, surely. Izzy, more than Conn to Louis, could have gotten Pereira out of there had he tried harder. I reference Fury's 2nd fight to Wilder or Ali's sporadic but determined bursts against Foreman (even BEFORE the finish btw) as examples of how bjg punchers are rarely defensive savants or brick walls of durability, and how they are so used to being the hunter that they cannot withstand the turn of the tables.
