@@Shattered_Universe I know this comment is over two years old, but I just wanted to let you know that you've just made Castlevania 2, from a pure narrative perspective, so much cooler for me.

Blank Blank Yes, but since you are using a code to get extra lives than default it falls under "not legit". James himself realizes this and thus put this joke in the video.

Castlevania 3 is another game that is so difficult it ceases to be fun after an hour or so of play. Expectations by the game designers were an outrage. I got this game for Christmas back in 1990 and gave up on it after playing it off and on for a week. By some miracle one of my friends managed to beat this game in a week.
I just did the same, never played it before, started last week, just finished it. It's hard, but if you enjoy a challenge I think it is just the right level of hard. For kids, it is probably too hard, you are right, but I am not a kid anymore and I fucking loved it all the way.
I love Castlevania 3. When I was backpacking around Europe, I would play C3 on my phone during downtime. I swear to everything that is holy, I am not making this up: I got to Dracula on Halloween evening waiting for dinner, in Bran, Transylvania. Never beat him though.
"I am Error" is useful! How do people not know this? In Zelda II, you later meet someone who tells you to go back and talk to Error, and if you've been paying attention to what people say you'll know who Error is.

More like what it really means, a bad deal. But damn, I thought he'd make a joke about that one...
In Castlevania 3, the way to kill Dracula's first form is to watch him. First he raises his arm and 2 fire walls surround you. The second time is when the large fire spike shoots up under you. As he starts raising his hand the second time, that is when you dodge. For his second form, use the cross or axe to destroy all 5 faces. Or use Sypha's fire or ball lightning spells. For the third form, ride the platforms that fly around and attack his eyes with the cross, axe. Sypha's fire or ball lightning or Alucard's balls of destruction.
I recently played it and, while it is often quite cryptic, it's not as bad as it's made out to be. Dracula could've been more difficult and the game might've been improved with a more linear style instead of constantly going back and forth, BUT, it's just not that bad.
Simon's quest is one of the best games I ever played as a kid. I am now 44 and married with children. Simon's quest and Faxanadu will always be in my memories.
"...Just as useless as the guy in Zelda 2 who says, 'I am Error'." Except Error wasn't totally useless. If you wanted to proceed, you "needed" (you didn't have to, but in Zelda canon, Link had to since he wouldn't have had any prior knowledge about the King's grave) to talk to him in order to find out how to get to one of the temples. In order to do that however, you needed to talk to one of the NPCs (forget which one in particular), and they're just about as useless as everyone else in Castlevania 2 (except for the people who "heal" Link).

"That was 5 years ago"
Now its been 2 decades..
If I remember correctly, the original Japanese Simon's Quest had much better information in the dialogue boxes.
The Japanese version also had the VRC6 sound chip which makes it superior over the western version.
2019 and this never gets old.
"I'm gonna do this legit...now where's that extra life code?"
F'n hilarious!
1: Dracula is a decent fight
2: Dracula's way too easy
3: Dracula's Way too hard
well:
1. dracula resurrected
2. dracula weakened after beated not long ago
3. dracula in full glory
This reminded me that I still haven't finished my playthrough of Castlevania games, I need to get back on that.
I love Simon's Quest. That is all....
same
I recently played it and, while it is often quite cryptic, it's not as bad as it's made out to be. Dracula could've been more difficult and the game might've been improved with a more linear style instead of constantly going back and forth, BUT, it's just not that bad.
I liked Simon's Quest, but I didn't love it. Just wished the aspects were like SotN. Perhaps a remaster is needed?
I love that game too, I think when the Nerd is complaining about games I like just make it better :P
I love Zelda 2.
The way he says "Ugh this game is poopy." is legendary.
9:16 "When you're on the stairs, your ass is fucked."
Been there before.
Same here.
His episodes are so good that you come back after many years to watch them again! 👍🏼 thank you AVGN
I am Japanese. I apologize for Konami's mistake.
Thanks, bro.
Arigato
You're a champion! All things considered, though, I'd say it's forgivable lol. It was early in Nintendo's heyday.
Legend
7:56 It also shows in the 2005 special The Batman vs Dracula.
I just realized I played Castlevania II as a child, I had no idea what to do or where to go, but at the time it seemed to be a really cool game to me.
For some reason I never figured out the water part when I was a kid
The day to night transition is the equivalent to an add happening in the middle of a video you're watching
12:36 I always forgot about that part. James had a lot of fun in the making of this videos. :D
You just gotta watch these every October, this series is perfect for Halloween. I love it
Lol very true. The last few weeks I been watching his Halloween episodes
My Halloween tradition continues! Here i am a year later! Thank's james!
Simon's quest is one of the best games I ever played as a kid. I am now 44 and married with children. Simon's quest and Faxanadu will always be in my memories.
6:17 My exact reaction to IGN's Pokemon review
Remember, Simons flesh was literally rotting in this game due to the curse
I'd still hit that
Something that is re-watch able after a decade should automatically get an award.
The BEST one
7:00 Shortcut to Castlevania III
3:33 “Don’t look into the Death Star, or you will Die.” What?!?
Apparently it's supposed to be a reference to Fist of the North Star anime/manga series, some light that shines brightly before a character dies.
Probably the best thing that came from the Castlevania games was the music.
3:29 - "Don't look into the Death Star, or you will die"
*Ben Kenobi felt that*
I wish that I could give these four Castlevania videos a million thumbs up each!! 🙏💓
DONT LOOK INTO THE DEATH STAR, OR YOU'LL DIE
Yeah Luke, don't look into the death star, or it will shoot the laser beam to you, so you will die.
JUAN SANTAMARIA The what? *looks at Death Star* AHHH!!!
George:Hey Fred I bet you don't have the guts to look at death star!!
Fred: Ha I did it lookd at the death star and only lost 1 eyeball.
YOU, FUKING GENIUS! xD
I think the programmers were actually referring to "The Fist of the North Star" when they wrote that guy's quote.
Words can't express how endearing James is during that closing outtake.
These Castlevania videos are some of the funniest. I miss it

...SIMON FELL THROUGH THE WATER AND DIED BECAUSE OF NOTHING.
As of October 12, 2019, this video is 9 years old.
Jeez.
"...Just as useless as the guy in Zelda 2 who says, 'I am Error'."
Except Error wasn't totally useless.
"heal"
