My favourite GNR song. I can't play guitar but my 15 year old son is almost nailing it and he has only been playing guitar for less than 2 years. Happy dad. Love this song.
My favourite GnR song ever. Deep deep lyrics, where the meaning gets deeper as one go through life. Great piano, guitar solo and drums! And a song with no choruse whatsover. Such an original structure and would absolutely rock a stadium!
@@Mattitude the biggest understatement I've ever herd. Was a disfunction relationship that knew any moment it could end but knew they were creating masterpieces together.
Exactly, this one didn't stick out to me at first but the more I listened to it the more i loved it. Now its one of my go to songs from GNR. Locomotive is close behind.
@@garrisonknuth9017 100%. When these albums came out, this track was not near the top of my list. But as I revisit it later in life it has become one of my favorites. Gives me the chills and brings a tear to my eye
Yeah that whole outro is a direct quote from a movie. And the deep voice earlier you kept hearing says “Let me hear it now.” I think you got the vibe of the lyrics right on, it’s about going through a hard time (or a breakdown, basically) and how we all go through that sometimes and it’s okay. There are some great lines in it, as you noticed. My favorite is “Just because you’re winning don’t mean you’re the lucky one.” And yes, the beginning of this one threw me off when it first came out because I’m not a fan of that country-type sound, but it grew on me and this became one of my favorites on the album. I’m sorry your camera died! That has to be super frustrating. But this was a nice surprise to wake up to and I enjoyed the reaction! Congrats on college and the new unit, I know things are gonna be busy for you but we hope to still see you around here when you can manage it! Take care!
If you listen closely at the beginning of both guitar solos from Slash, you can hear Axl's howling scream that sounds like a wind storm. Shows the amazing dynamic of his vocals.
I'm a life long major GNR fan, and to my knowledge this song has no particular story or narrative attached to it. I always felt it was a song about life in general that anyone can interpret however it hits them. I really like your reactions. It truly makes my day to see someone from another generation feel and respect GNR. Much love and respect brother!
One of my fave gnr songs of all time. Hope you have listened to it again and again. Dude, hope you are doing well in the military and college. Merry Christmas my dude!
Same. I was stationed in Panama when this came out. No cable TV or internet. Read books and listened to it every day for 2 years (this and Shuffle it All from Izzy Stradlin’s first album). lol
Great song, thanks for reacting to it. Haven't heard it in a while. Use Your Illusion I and II came out on the same day, but II was always my faforite. Would be great if you could react to Get in the Ring next, also from UYI II
If you're gonna do Perfect crime it needs to be LIVE Either Indiana 1991(if you want full psycho scary Axl) or this one which is about 3/4 psycho and fantastic th-cam.com/video/LOWzkDttHCU/w-d-xo.html
As mentioned a few times, the outro is Axl reading a line by Super Soul, a DJ in the movie Vanishing Point. Cleavon Little (the sheriff from Blazing Saddles) played Super Soul. Here’s the line in its entirety: And there goes the Challenger, being chased by the blue, blue meanies on wheels. The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver, the last American hero, the electric centaur, the, the demi-god, the super driver of the golden west! Two nasty Nazi cars are close behind the beautiful lone driver. The police numbers are gettin' closer, closer, closer to our soul hero, in his soul mobile, yeah baby! They about to strike. They gonna get him. Smash him. Rape... the last beautiful free soul on this planet. But, it is written: "If the evil spirit arms the tiger with claws, Brahman provided wings for the dove." Thus spake the super guru. Cheers!
The song goes from talking about love, community, loneliness, surviving, bonding to relating to breakdown, as happens in the tempo of the music and lyrically underlining the weight of the themes above. Then a lot more cool stuff happens and it ends in an - from the (rock) song with meaning - deconstructionist exit, musically, while Axl provides a short poem followed by a comment.
Incredible bro. Made my night, thanks for reacting to Breakdown! You Could be Mine or Get in the Ring next pls!
thanks! no problem! ill choose one of those next! have a good rest of your night brother 👊

Happy dad. Love this song.
The versatility on those two albums is astonishing, this song is unusual, not really radio-friendly, but better than most on radio :)
Agreed! These guys never disappoint!
I wish the radio was more friendly to songs like this. This is what I wanna hear!

The end is a monologue from the movie Vanishing Point. The song is about betrayal and that there’s always light at the end of the tunnel.
thank you! very interesting. was the band having infighting at the time or something?
@@MattitudeYou could say that it was a divided group

The voices that you heard when Axl said 'Breakdown' are basically saying "let me hear it now" and "yeah" over and over again
Subscribed Matt. You had me at GnR. Other great bands, TOOL, SOAD, Billy Talent, Linkin Park.
Next "you could be mine" or "pretty tied up"
I think im doing "you could be mine" next!

I think Dizzy (keyboardist since Use Your Illusion albums) plays piano on this one. Like your videoreactions!
Oh wow I had no idea. Thanks!
Maybe do knocking on heavens door in tokio 1992 next, thats one of the best live performances of gnr.
No.. the Paris 92 version.... Slash's groove at the end of the reggae part is amazing.
I'll check it out!

I've reacted to them live before! I'll definitely do more live in the future. Thanks for watching!
Do you think it would help to have the lyrics to hand or do you think then you'd end up focusing too much on them?
I'd probably focus on them too much. I think as a musician I don't want to miss out on the music haha. I'll give it a try in the future I suppose!
November Rain next
I'll see if I can do that one soon! I think I got blocked on that one before if I remember correctly
