- hey what's up guys! it's good to be back. in this video I gave my reaction to Coma by Guns N' Roses. this song was a masterpiece! definitely going on the Playlist. keep the good suggestions coming guys!

This song and Dogs by Pink Floyd are 2 of the best songs I've ever heard. Coma in particular is probably my favorite. Axl Rose is friggin brilliant. This song can be interpreted many ways, I tend to think of this song from a metaphorical standpoint. Simply put, its about being in isolation. Its basically Axl being sick of the "pressures" and stress that comes from everyday life and just wants to be isolated from everybody. He puts himself into this coma by isolating himself and he finds the peace he was looking for (the slow part in the middle of the song). The ending is basically a wake-up call, whether it be his own consciousness speaking to him or a family member/friend (interpretation up to you), to get out of this coma he put himself into. These lines are some of my favorite from the song: "No you don't need a doctor, no one else can heal your soul." To stop isolating himself from the people that love and care about him because eventually, he will actually have nobody around in his life. At that point, suicide may be the way to go. The more you listen to this masterpiece, the more you'll love it.
Side note: I believe Axl was actually in a coma from a drug overdose and it was the inspiration for this song.This was on the album Use Your Illusion 1 in 1991

Very nice analysis someone does their homework and yes this was about him. and this is why it became so controversial because he's basically saying he likes it better this way and it was in turn causing some to want to commit suicide as well. He says in an interview about the stress being too much and he ODS and this is all the thing that goes on throughout the entire overdose all his thought processes and so forth. A lot of songs by GNR are about each individuals Life experiences this was his personal.

Axle wrote the song after overdosing and going into a short coma, he overdosed because he was arguing with someone (I believe it was his girlfriend) and he got tired of it and grabbed a bottle of pills and chugged them all, when he was interviewed after he just said “I’m just happy I’m out of the argument”
Axl is a brilliantly gifted frontman.
In his prime, when he was on, there was no one on the planet better.

As much as I would like to agree, most of the lyrics were written by rhythm guitar player, Izzy Stradlin. Never the less, Axl likely played a huge role in this song.

Axl has even talked about writing the lyrics and called the song 'slashs baby'.... no mention of izzy and the lyrics at all.... so it seems ya are wrong.
One of the greatest songs ever recorded... feels like a movie. Slash just plays in such a heartfelt way, every note is perfection.

60 and still my favorite.... Grew up on them. was there when they blew up on stage. They were and still are freaking awesome. I'll see them again if given a chance🌹
These records are absolute masterpieces....but Coma in particular is very special.
This is a song that goes from a 6/10 complicated, to 9/10 legendary once you read the lyrics. I remember listening to this over and over with the album booklet in front of me as a teenager. It’s an intense experience!

Axl did an interview in which he said that this song came about because he had once ended an argument by swallowing a whole bottle of pills and overdosing. He was aware of what was going on with the paramedics loading him into an ambulance, but he had a feeling of calm because he wasn't in the fight anymore. This song is about wanting to escape the stress of this life, but realizing that you don't actually want to die. When he was on his way to the hospital, he came to the realization that he still had so much work to do with the band. The album wouldn't do as well if he died and didn't help promote it. He made a decision then to wake up. That's just what he did. He sat up and chose to continue the fight. He ended the song on a semi-positive note to give listeners the idea that we can't just exist between worlds. Stop living like we're in a coma.

“Wow.” A perfect reaction to that song, especially the end. I love that he basically talked himself out of suicide by realizing there are people in his life who care, and he was the one pushing them away. My favorite line is “living broken memories that another man would need just to survive.” We have so much more than we think we do. So happy you did this one! Musically it’s insane!

This song is definitely better live even in 2016 he blows it away. He was under extreme stress and his only way to escape that stress was to take pills and that's what he had done to the point where he was in a coma and he is telling us the story of what it was like when he was there and this is why I said before it's very controversial because he doesn't want young kids thinking that it's okay to go ahead and do this just because he had. And yes I believe some of the the comments I saw about the doctors in there where the actual doctors that treated him when he of. Yes when they mention his name they are trying to pull him out of his coma induced stupor. So as someone said here this was in regards to that as far as the doctors and the nurses these are the original people that helped him survive.
I'm 51, so I lived and loved Gn' R through their most famous and influential times.
This is without a doubt my favourite track of theirs and one of my all time bangers.
Many say 'appetites' was their best work, I think these 2 albums are.
There's so much variety in these 2 albums.

He was in a coma due to an overdose of pills that he felt would help him get away from all the stress. He actually liked the feeling which is why the song had so much power and then he had to decide whether he wanted to live or die he comes back but this is what was controversial was he in fact telling young kids it was okay to commit suicide to get away from your issues
however this is not how he intended it to me he wanted them to know that it's not okay to commit suicide no matter how hard things may get. People seem to get the wrong meanings to his songs they're not all bad.remember all of these songs that have been created by GNR are due to their personal experiences that they brought to life through their music so it's just not about Axl, it's about the whole bands
experiences. Unfortunately as usual people take some of them to literally.

It makes me so happy to see you appreciate this particular song and how much thought you give the backstory and lyrics. Coma is one of my favourite songs from GnR, it's so consuming. It's not just an amazing track to play to play along to whatever I'm doing, it's a sit down experience. I always feel like I'm 100% in the song and it's a real emotional journey.
It's so raw and powerful, the lyrics and the music story, the instruments and above all Axl's voice, there is so much feelings and life in this song. For me (and I bet a lot of other people) this holds a special place because of how much I relate to it and yeah.. It just makes me smile to see someone else enjoy it :)

I’m from Australia and when this was released I skipped uni ( to fail a class) just to buy the CD. Coma was instantly a favourite ( no one else liked it!)🤷♀️ anyway, awesome song- thanks for reviewing 👌👍😊 loved to see you really into the lyrics/music

illusion 1 is more heavy rock, 2 is more bluesy both amazing.... both released on the same day in 91

Musically this is a Slash song, but most of the lyrics were inspired by Axl overdosing on pills. One of the things you mentioned about it seems like a real experience is one of the greatest things about Guns N' Roses. Almost all of their original songs are based on real life experiences, not just random made up crap or hired song writers. The entire AFD album is basically their real life experiences of living the big city street life and all the good and bad that comes with that while trying to become rock stars. For example the song Mr. Brownstone is referring to heroin addiction that a couple members of the band at the time were dealing with. Welcome to the Jungle is more or less about Axl's experience of leaving a small town in Indiana with nothing but the clothes on his back and trying to make it on the streets of LA
