Make sure you go to settings and turn on Bluetooth. Wait for it to connect (iPhone will search for the devices). After it’s connected, you’re clear to accept payment.
How Can I get it free? Does it have to be purchasing it thru square or can it be thru any store?

Ok so you tap your phone or card to accept the payment but how do u know how much your are entering that’s the confusing part. Say im charging $20 for each product I sell where do you do this?
You have to download the Square POS app and then you can charge the amount.
So where does the money go to your personal account ? so you have to set your banck info ?

what about my old square that accepts the sliding method? What - I can't use it for chips? Can more than 1 phone be hooked up to a reader at one time?
BUT THE OLD ONE STILL SWIPES THE CHIP CARDS SO DO WE REALLY NEED THE CHIP READER UNTIL THEY GO ALL THE WAY OVER
Marie Strickland most cards are going to use chip only now. The point of this reader is so you can have that option and also accept NFC payments via Android pay, apple pay and Samsung pay. It comes with a magstripe reader bundled in case you have to make a transaction swipe instead of an inserted chip. I'd say its good for the price for what you get but wait for sales. Both Amazon and Best buy have them occasionally for $40.

you can use invoice just sign in to the Web and send them a invoice if you just type in the card # it's more then 2.75

I used both Stripe and Square and I like Square much better for in person transactions and online invoicing.

Does the reader power on when the app is opened automatically, or do you have to turn it on each time?
+RedLight GreenArrow You can leave it turned on and it will not lose much charge. But you need to manually power on and off.
+Redline Performance how do you know if it is off?
If you click the battery indicator on the side it will not glow.

Lonedog384 no it is completely wireless through Bluetooth. I spoke with them if having NFC was necessary and they also said no, so if you are using a budget phone with just Bluetooth, then you should also not be worried although I still would recommend getting one just in case for future proofing. It comes with the mag stripe reader in case a customer doesn't have emv chips yet or doesn't have NFC payment option.

Got mine yesterday and the back of the box shows an additional icon for accepted payment forms - Android Pay - or maybe the icon only means Samsung Pay(?).

Basically Google Wallet, they just changed the name. Androids version of Apple Pay... Well, they came out before Apple but you get the idea... Samsung Pay is the thing that sends a magnetic pulse to any terminal regardless of age.

The $49 reimbursement only applies to your use for the first 3 months also, so if you only rack up $29 in fees in the first three months you will have paid $20 for it. For businesses like mine that are "down" in the winter months, I'll never be fully reimbursed for it.

Yes, over $10k transactions in the past, treated same as a $10 transaction.

It is a credit card processor for your small business. It is the same process as if you were a customer buying something from a store. The customer pays no fees and the business owner pays a processing fee per charge.
