One of my favorite songs. When Joy Division recorded this, this song was the start of Modern Rock. They wanted to make music that had nothing to do with the past. This is where U2 came from, New Order then U2. It reminds me of some people who have past away, but in a good way. Cheers.
This song reminds me of my kid’s mother. She died of cancer in ‘09. It reminds me of my daughter, she died in ‘18. It’s weird that this song by Joy Division makes me of my daughter because there is a song by the band Hole called Malibu, that song reminds me of my daughter. There is a line in that song that refers to Joy Division’s song Love Will Tear Us Apart. My daughter was 23 when she passed.
@@CuddlyJon Would you please consider re-doing this and have someone record it properly? You are waaaay too good to have this be your cover of this great song.
@@gerryleb8575 Truly a beautiful comment. I do apologize but this will have to be it. I record on my own, never worked with a professional, I'm sure that comes out very well, haha. But yes, this'll have to be it. Thank you for the comment. It really did make my day. I don't think I'm that great of a musician, but I'm happy to know that people think so!
The original words as they were written by Ian were lost along with him. A swan song indeed. The poor man hardly had much strength to continue living on with the looming stress of traveling, recording, and most especially, the fall of his marriage and his adultery. I like to think that this song in particular can be very grey, as it was transcribed by Bernard to take on a new meaning. Very difficult considering that he had to deal with the death of his own friend. Perhaps his perspective of hope despite Ian's endeavors is something he wished he was able to get into Ian's head. Sadly, that didn't happen. Ian was far too gone. Regardless, I would wager that this song does not have an "original" meaning since it was written in the midst of the sentinel event that struck Joy Division. It was a song that had yet to be fully completed. But what we do have is Bernard's interpretation, something about the "finality" of love and something starting anew amidst the death of a friend. Ceremonies in the form of marriages, funerals, baptisms, graduations, reunions. Time passes, people die, connections are made, love moves and flows in all directions, between life and death. Themes in the song don't flow so well as they may because we have Ian's depressing words being interpreted by Bernard's hope. Still, as Bernard says, we will all find it a different story. Of course, this is all my opinion, haha. I like to lean into perhaps the love between 2 people. Ian's marriage did not turn out so well, but time continues on, as does love.
Gosh! Just now reading your reply for the second time since you posted. I'm just recovering from COVID, so I have a lot of foggy time on my hands to think about your words. At the level of interest we seem to find ourselves immersed into this wonderful song, I'm hoping I'm not the only lost soul out there who has recently listened to The Beatles new song "Now and Then", and wondered if AI could be used to lift Ian Curtis' vocals from any of the 3 released recordings made with him on the mic, the goal of course being a clear revelation of his words. Alas, not to belabor the JD vs NO schism, but to honor the poet and his memory.@@CuddlyJon
@@NickSonnega Happy to hear that you are recovering! Many blessings to you. That would be quite the revelation indeed. A part of me thinks that it would be nice to hear the original words as they were intended, and a part of me wonders if maybe it's best that they are lost to time. As I've gotten older, I've come to understand that some great things may be best left. With all the time that has past and all the changes in people undergone, would Ian still want his words to be known? He was so lost in his own despair, should we remember him in his depression, or better in his moments of happiness? Regardless, maybe those words he meant were only truly intended for a select few to know, kind of like a destiny, you know? Still, no matter what outcome comes with AI, there is no denying the impact JD and NO has had on so many people.
@@lulutaylor9362 WHAT?! Hot diggity dog, what an honor. While I would absolutely love to do so, I am not much of a live performer haha, especially since some songs, like this one, are difficult to play and sing at the same time. However, if we get a band going, I would most certainly love to participate, no charge or anything. I am in California.
Omg! That was beyond beautiful! You nailed the desire/passion/sadness in the original. And with mexican-american soul. How can i watch you live? I'm in New Mexico. Come to Las Cruces!
What a beautiful comment. Thank you. I never thought of my rendition having Mexican-American soul. Such a interesting and reflective perspective! Thank you. Thank you for sharing George. I'm glad you enjoyed it (:
Yes, U2 were a New Wave band originally. I think their single "Out of Control" was influenced a lot by Joy Division.
Ceremony is possibly my favorite song of all time. You did a tremendous job here.
I think it might be even better with the tapping omitted.
Parabéns, me emocionou!
This is my favorite song and you did an awesome job
Nicely, and quite cleverly done. My favourite New Order/Joy Division track.
The first song ever released under New Order's name ! Brillant cover ! I'm waiting for your version of "In a Lonely Place" !

My favorite JD track that never was 😊
I love that you refer to it as a Joy Division track (:
This soothes my soul and inspires me to learn how to play the guitar, y'know, get creative. Thank you!
You've nailed that, lad.
Thank you for actually creating worthwhile TH-cam content, I would think Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris would approve of this rendition
It's such a delight to think that someone would think my content is "worth while." Thank you so much for your beautiful comment.
Think Ian Curtis would approve too, wherever Ian may dwell
Beautiful.
Amazing!Considering the original I didn't think an acoustic version would cut it but your version is just something else.Lovely work.
Bless you.
jon great clone video cover, ceremony! like 6!

Great guitar work, but the tone of the vocal is just right too. Excellent cover.

I hope one day you will find someone that you connect so deeply with. Marriage is a beautiful connection. Love the way this video was made very cool.
I just came back to this comment. Truth is, I actually have. The relationship did not continue, but it helped shape me into who I am now.

Hello!!!

Wow......
when stephen morris' drums are removed from any of their tracks you understand how to essential he is to the new order sound.
Most certainly. Stephen's drumming is such an integral aspect to New Order. Not to mention the fact that he's simply just a phenomenal drummer.
@@CuddlyJon fine rendition, not easy being all members of the band. bravo
I was a full two minutes into this video before I realized that all three of those people was the same person. 😅. Excellent cover by the way!
No, it's just me with my other triplets.

Hope your not too busy.,,
