    Hey Folks, in this video I show you how to fix your Ford Mustang Convertible top if it won't come down or close. Most of the time this fix will be you need more fluid in your motors reserve. I show you how to refill your convertible top motor with hydraulic fluid.

    Just a tremendous thank you! Was about to bring my 2006 Mustang convertible in for what could have been an unnecessary and expensive repair because my top wouldn’t go down. Watched your video.( which was the only one I could find on this) ,did the repair as you instructed.And Boom! Done! $5 trans fluid.$2 turkey baster.$7 total repair cost. My wife came out and said: “How did you do that?” I said. “ Piece of cake”. Thanks for makin me look good.

    You were 100% correct in my case, 99% of the time the hydraulic fluid is empty and reason the top won't lift. We live in the hot Central Valley of CA and I had no idea the hydraulic fluid for the top needed to be refilled occasionally. Thanks to your video, we were able to troubleshoot & get my top working again. I also now know to keep an eye on the hydraulic fluid oil & how to test the relay switches too, as although the hydraulic motor was trying to lift the top, I did insist we check the switch too, lol. Thanks again for saving me the fees of a shop doing the troubleshooting & fill we did pretty rapidly, after removing the back seats. Ahhh, there's nothing like pushing the top down, then up button and having my convertible top work again, without my husband helping manually pull the top up! Feeling grateful and happy!

  • @crisboiiiwfm
    @crisboiiiwfm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The fluid doesn’t just magically disappear guys. Doing this will refill the canister in order for the hydraulics to move the top up and down but you’re likely to have a leak in one of the hydraulics cylinders that’s causing it to malfunction in the first place.

    I'm going to try this soon. I have a 2007 which I believe is the exact body style in the video. On some videos there is an electrical connection that's blocking the plug, but on this video there doesn't seem to be one... is that true?
    Also, any reason why I can't start the process with the top down? Makes it much easier to get the seats out, plus the lighting is way better. I've also heard that starting the "5x" up and down with the roof after replacing the fluid is better because it has less air to push through for some reason (and I agree w/those who say leave the cap off when bleeding). Thanks though, looks like a good video.

      I have a 2014 GT. Used Valvoline DEX/MERC ATF and it worked well.
      Only problem I experienced was the plug. The good news is they put a screw in it. Forget what size Allen head but it screws in and out. The bad news is it's in the middle of the dad gum reservoir. I found it with about 1/3 full and was able to get it to 2/3 full. Squirted fluid all over the place doing it though. Some of that was from where my siphon hose was the same width as the hole though. Still, what a dumb design.
      Anyways this video helped me to know what to do though. Thanks!

      Mine leaks from the tops of the hydraulic cylinders. One issue with this video; he says something about "purging the air from the system" after operating a few times, yet it appeared to me that he put the reservoir cap (the mangled piece of plastic..REPLACE!) back on before operating the top. Unless there's a major leak, that would be on par with filling an empty brake system without bleeding it. If I recall, and at this point it doesn't matter to me until I replace the cylinders, the proper method is to open & close the top 5 times with no cap on the reservoir, then top off, 3-5 more times, and with the top down, verify reservoir is filled and replace plug. My buddy who is a true mechanic dug through his odds n sods bucket and found a better cap than the oem junk that it came with.

      If your dluid level is good and you have no leaks, Check for any loose and biding mechanical arms; the ones that make up the moving frame under the top material. Check for damaged pins/bolts. Something is preventing full motion and locating wgich piece is just gonna take some time and patience. Good luck.

    Hi there , I have a sn95 vert top and when I bring it down it goes down 90% and it’s also not flush as it goes down my passenger side goes down no problem while my driver side of the top hangs up you can see how uneven it is, I switched out the hydraulic cylinder and still didn’t help, you have any idea what it can be, I really don’t want to go ahead and replace the whole top itself

      If your dluid level is good and you have no leaks, Check for any loose and biding mechanical arms; the ones that make up the moving frame under the top material. Check for damaged pins/bolts. Something is preventing full motion and locating wgich piece is just gonna take some time and patience. Good luck.

      @@tracykey9227 nah the vert had a bent frame
      Went to junkyard and pulled out a whole convertible top with frame and rear window all under $150 plus 3 hrs of my time to install did the trick
      My phantom cover would sit flush because of the old frame and with the 2001 donor the cloth material sits better than the old vinyl and couldn’t be happier
