    I don't know if you will see this. But I recently replaced the top on my 07 mustang with the help of your video. Your the only vid on Here with help for this type of procedure. After watching ur vid I saved myself about 1800 to 2000 dollars! The top didn't come out to bad either! Couple wrinkles but nothing major. I just wanted to let you know your video is still helping people to this day and I thank you for your help brother

    Thank you so much. It had been so long since the last time me and my dad really do anything together, even though we live under the same roof. Obviously, this is the best video for my 05 Mustang, and I spent the whole afternoon removing the top and halfway installing the new one. My dad is the type of father that will never say he loves or is prouds of his son, but he shows it through his act. Frustratedly removing rivets, pulling up the frame, pulling each staple,... He got hurt in the process for me,...but through the whole afternoon, not even a complaint said. Your video isn't just helping me and others fix the convertible top, it also helps me and my dad have a chance to spend time together again. Thank you!!

    good afternoon, sorry, I have a 2006 mustang and I'm having a hard time, the glass fell off and now the roof doesn't close 100%, it takes about 3 cm to get there, the levers near the windshield, which could be the tensioner, it won't let it. get to the end or what would be the problem

      Did you put the new one on already? It should be hard to pull down the first time putting it on. You leave it locked down for about a week in the sun and it’ll become easier. Now if it’s too tight you may have to pull it back off and give some slack. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Thanks. This video gave me the confidence to do it myself. I am currently using a 2014 mustang convertible V6 as my daily driver for commute and errands year round, and the top is beginning to show its age. I believe I'll get another year out of it but definitely gonna start budgeting for a new top this fall/winter. I love learning new things and feeling the satisfaction of fixing a problem on my own. This is the only major downside of owning a rag top. But the fun and pleasure of driving down the freeway in the sunshine and wind blowing through your hair, definitely outweighs the expense of upkeep in my opinion. I purchased the car a year ago because it was a good price at the time and needed a car after my 2018 Ford Fusion was totaled in a wreck that wasn't my fault. My first convertible and I absolutely love it although I do miss the large trunk and back seating area that my fusion had.

    amazing work sir, curious which mustang year was this? the American muscle top seems to say the same top works for 2005-2014 which is strange as I thought 2010-2014 were redesigned models.

    Have a 2013 mustang here. I think it's best I get this done before summer ends when I go back to college. I did 3M window weld on it about 4 years ago and lemme just say that is still going strong today, but I have a gaping hole dead center of the top (flex tape and flex seal to patch it at the moment).
    Maybe it isn't so bad just need to find the time to have days where it doesnt rain. In the midwest it feels like it storms almost everyday out of nowhere, but man I have so many spots with Flex Seal. Water finds its way down the under part of the back seats and those spots where theres stitches all have little holes for water to get through. Pretty sure the top is from the factory so I am shocked it lasted this long in the midwest!

    • @JunkyardJunkie
      @JunkyardJunkie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Intresting question, but yes I have seen people do this. But two things to keep in mind it is a pretty big job so you don’t want to run into trouble. So first thing to consider is getting those two sections on top out of the channel they are in without damaging them. In my video I cut it from the convertible then pull them out the side (they slide easy). But I know personally can be a real PIA trying to get out of that channel normally without damaging them (if you damage it then you’re in trouble. Second problem which probably isn’t anywhere near is bad is how long will the donor last? Is it in good enough condition that it’s worth it? Personally given the choice I’d probably still save up and just get a new one. But that’s just my personal opinion.

    • @JunkyardJunkie
      @JunkyardJunkie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I’m not sure what that piece is called. If you need a replacement you’d probably have to call ford directly and ask someone from the parts department. Wish I was more help. If you do find a part number or a name comment it here and I’ll pin it so it’ll stay at the top for others to see. Thanks for watching!

    Here is the biggest problem I came across. The new top I purchased doesn't have any indicator line at the back to indicate as to where to line it up and staple. So now we are stuck trying to figure out exactly how much material needs to overlap that back bar. If we staple it too tight and need to undo the Staples then we will have exposed staple holes. We already stapled it too loose. That being said I think you're better off saving up money and having a upholstery shop do the work for you. This is not a standard backyard mechanic job.

    • @JunkyardJunkie
      @JunkyardJunkie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s why I recommend getting it from somewhere reputable like American muscle. With out that it is a huge hassle. Saving up for a upholstery shop is a good idea if you can budget for it. I know some people can’t. Plus some people like to learn new things (I know I do). As for it not being a standard backyard mechanic job… ya I don’t think anyone’s going into it thinking it’s a easy job like tie rods or something. But, at the same time honestly it doesn’t require many tools and it’s not as bad as many people think. But I appreciate your input and hope you get yours figured out. Thanks for watching!

    • @futuregamer5791
      @futuregamer5791 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JunkyardJunkie yeah I pretty much took the plunge and just guesstimated how much overlap for the material at the back. came out good enough. Little bit of wrinkles on one side of the back.

      @JunkyardJunkie  ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you try to use the previous top as a reference, then outline on the new top with a marker based on measurements?

    • @futuregamer5791
      @futuregamer5791 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@shynethegod360 cut the old top up and tossed in trash. Had no idea it would be needed. I've got the new top on now after going back and re doing the staples but it's still slightly off and has wrinkles on one side. Would have been nice to have known to keep the old top before throwing it out hence why I was watching this TH-cam video for instructions.

    • @JunkyardJunkie
      @JunkyardJunkie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes ma’am, it’s listed in the description but you’ll need
      -rivet gun (handheld or for convince automatic one like Milwaukee’s)
      - 1/8” x 1/2” rivets.
      -staple gun with 3/8 stainless steel staples
      -drill for any old rivets still in there
      -pliers or something to pull old staples out.
      -torx socket set I believe the only two sizes I need were T25 and T30 but I may have also used T20
      - basic socket set
      - razor blade
      That’s really it I show everything I used in the video. I hope this helps. thanks for watching!
