I had to check my calender on whether this is an in-season or out-of-season april fools joke. Will watch it either way since I do enjoy me a good incremental game lol.
Inspired me to finally get this silly achievement after years of playing...I followed a similar strat up to 2 mines, then bought whatever. Got a golden frenzy, then a very lucky 2nd frenzy at exactly 14 minutes. Ended up with about a 14:15 time!
I can't stress enough how much it feels like an april fools video... 4 months too late! ...or maybe 8 months too soon? Anyway next video idea: IN-depth solitaire gude/playthrough
Thank you very much. I've been trying for a week and I'm already discouraged because it depends on luck, excellent strategy and it worked for me the first time!!!
While ignoring grandma, in term of cookies, might be inefficient for cookie baking in real life... Visiting grandma is the most optimized form of love. While you're at it, call your parents. it takes 3 minutes and it'll make their week so it's more than 3000 times more efficient than calling an E-girl
I played this game years ago but didn't bother with this achievement (and several others). I literally returned a couple of days ago just to get this one. What a strange coincidence.
If you do it in the christmas season event its much more easier. I test your strategy in christmas season event with reindeers and get the achievement at ~11:38. Thank you very much.
Man I love cookie clicker, rn I'm waiting a year for the final achievments (upgrading with sugar lumps). It's interesting seeing other factorio players enjoying the game too
i used a bot that speeds up the game 10x and i could do it without clicking the cookie even once. i got an auto clicker and moved it around my screen to make sure i got the reindeers. then i got one golden cookie (lucky, gives you 13 coins) and a reindeer. then i bought some cursors and put the game on 100x speed and made the bot auto buy buildings and upgrades.
You might be mixing up your Dutch video game content creators, my dude. Then again, I can't say I've ever seen Michael Hendriks and Marcel Vos in the same room...
michael I love you, this is gigabased. can't wait to watch you play kittens game in the future. I wonder how fast you can get to chronospheres in it from a fresh wipe
Of course, just wait for Christmas and use reindeer, or abuse golden lumps (get one before 1st prestige level, then ascend and do SB 3 while it's mature, and harvest it to double your bank at some point during the run) You won't even need GCs at all Or alternativly a Cookies storm as 2nd GC, though that's even rarer then Click Frenzy 2 Frenzies also Work, similar rarity to Click Frenzy
@@MichaelHendriks The strat here only works if you can maintain the necessary clicks per second though, which not everyone can. I'd always recommend doing it in Christmas season
I mean the first video on his channel is Terraria, then a lot of minecraft, Civ IV, then a Factorio speedrun, then Cursed Treasure, then Heroes of Might and Magic 3, then some factorio, minecraft, plants vs zombies... Sure it's been 3 and a half years with only Factorio until this point, but I say nothing seemed out of the ordinary here.
FYI, even ignoring the opportunity cost there are cases where highest ROI is _not_ the optimum strategy. Consider for the sake of argument if you had two choices: thing A that cost 1000 and produced 1, and thing B that cost 2500 and produced 4, and you have a current production of 1. Ignore exponential costs for a moment. What is the optimum choice? Well, the ROI of thing A is 0.001 and the ROI of thing B is 0.0016, so you should choose thing B, right? Wrong. Consider if you choose thing B. 0 seconds, production of 1. 2500 seconds, production of 5. 3000 seconds, production of 9. 3278 seconds, production of 13. Consider if you choose thing A. 0 seconds, production of 1. 1000 seconds, 1x A, production of 2. 1500 seconds, 2x A, production of 3. 1834 seconds, 3x A, production of 4. 2084 seconds, 4x A, production of 5. -> wait, but this is the same production as B and at 2084 seconds not 2500! 2284 seconds, 5x A, production of 6 -> wait, we've surpassed B! The actual game is a little more complex - exponentially rising costs and all that - but a similar effect still applies. There is an opportunity cost for going for more expensive upgrades, as it means you have cookies sitting there 'uselessly' for longer. (Or another way of looking at the same thing: cheaper upgrades mean you get them sooner.) A better approximation is to, roughly: a) Figure out the continuous interpolation of each option. b) Pick the option with the highest derivative at t=0. For instance, in my toy example, we have the following for thing A: cookies(t) = .596018*1.00098^(t) + 0.406256 And for thing B: cookies(t) = 0.121624*1.0014^(t) + 0.890608 (Note: I just did a nonlinear least-squares fit. If you want to do this 'properly' instead solve the differential equation.) Derivative at t=0 for A: 0.00058 B: 0.00017 So you "should" choose thing A here, at least initially. This is still an approximation - but a better one.
Isn't that (not buying X to buy Y first) the definition of opportunity cost? The spreadsheet allows (manually) adjusting for that by increasing the cost of the better but more expensive choice by adding the amount of missed cookies, as showcased the second time I overlay the spreadsheet (taking into account the opportunity cost of skipping buying cheaper options drops the ROI of grandma doubler from 440 to 430 IIRC)
@@MichaelHendriks Yeah, you're right re: opportunity cost. Been too long since economics. Adding the # of missed cookies improves things somewhat but is still suboptimal. Note that in my example even adding the 1500 'missed' cookies from taking B over A results in A and B "tied" in ROI (A is 1 / 1000; B is 4 / (1500 + 2500)) even though A is a rather superior choice to B. If you dropped B's cost a little (say, 2400 instead of 2500) you'd end up in a regime where your improved method would still suggest B over A even though A was better.
As you show in your own original example, it's easy to see you miss a whole lot more than 1500 cookies, so you need to add those to the "missed cost" as well. I agree it's a lot of manual work to determine the exact amount of missed cookies several accumulating purchases deep in my spreadsheet and I indeed don't go multi-layer deep in my video as perhaps I should have, but the need for that level of accuracy is offset by the extra time you need to save up cookies for a more expensive purchase being WAY less than the 1500 extra seconds in your example (I think the biggest wait is the 120.000 mine doubler at roughly a minute of waiting), as well as the incremental cost of buildings giving diminishing returns (theoretically you need to add the missed cost both ways). Also it's just a simple spreadsheet, IMO it gets the job done accurate enough and if not, I will still tell myself that as I don't want to fall into an even deeper rabbit hole of coding optimal solutions lol!
What happened to your audio? Your voice used to be crisp on your earlier Factorio videos, like the max evolution series. But here and in some other ones it sounds flat and muffled. It's a shame because your voice is very easy on the ears, and the low quality audio ruins it...
Earlier Factorio Videos, excuse me, the commentated speedrun, the arid desert these 4 videos were the only ones with his voice alongside factorio. Derivative at t=0 for
