    WOW bought one of these devices for 25 dollars on ebay. Now all I need is 200 dollars worth of leads as thick as my wrist and a power supply bigger than my house LOL. Now i know why those guys on ebay didn't show it working or what was actually needed to run it. I worked as a lab technician a ways back and we had a spot welder as big as the power supply but it worked a lot better but it wold never work for spot welding batteries, because it only welded with two fat fat prongs top and bottom. But need must and I suppose a car battery and a set of jumper leads will work just the same. Thank you very much for the video, i never would have worked out how to use the gadget without you I am eternally grateful for all you efforts in showing us how to set up this device really I am eternally in your debt. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU so much

      you can buy a rechargeable one now. it comes with a usb cable, and goes for about the same price. No need for a power supply with transformer/power supply. Or you can make your own welder with an old MOT out of a microwave and id say 20-30 bucks worth of parts.

    this video is very informative. I just ordered one but that small cable is to tell the black box when to send the power through the two copper poles.

  • @bobsmith3983

    You need the big black wires or else the power delivered to the contacts will be reduced. The small black wire is connected to the microswitch in the handle and this triggers the electronics in the big black box to deliver the timed power to the electrodes. You cannot use a car battery as there is no way to control the power to the electrodes. The electrodes will be connected to the battery directly so as soon as the electrodes connect to the nickel strip power completing the circuit the weld will occur without power control. The power control will be how long you keep the electrodes touching the nickel strip. Obviously this is unworkable as the welds will be horrible. You essentially need the complete setup for the spot welder to work properly.

      The product description says you can supply 800A of current. I'm not too sure about that, but I guess like with common welding it's all about testing and finding the suitable current.

    How is it working for you? Better than the fixed type pen like the one Sunkko makes? Worth the upgrade?

    • @Laamlee-yt
      @Laamlee-yt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sunkko is a professional welder for commercial use, so i think this diy handle can't beat sunkko. But it's enough for me. You can find how i built a battery pack using this handle in my channel.

    • @GiovanniEsposito5
      @GiovanniEsposito5 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Laamlee-yt The sunkko HB-70 welding pen is not that good: the wires are thin and it has no integrated switch, so you must use the pedal to trigger it. With this design you have much bigger copper conductors and you can spot weld with one hand only. I'll make one myself....

      I will try using a cheap starter relay (needs ~1A to activate and should be able to handle >500A) - activated by smaller relay (only needs 0.0375A) - activated by the switch (rated only for 0.05A) in the pen.
      The big relay should be able to withstand the impulse and will only allow the 12V of the battery to be connected to the pen when the trigger is pressed.
      I will report whether it is possible or not 😊

      6AWG to 4AWG or 16mm2 to 25mm2 is usually recommended. Get silicone insulated wire if possible for the most flexibility but welding cable with EPDM is also fairly flexible. Depending on the type of spot welder you are using having too large of cables can be a bad thing.

      Friend , you do not know How to use / apply .. You have use too much High Current energy ! You cannot Connect straight to Transformer or Car Battery ! You got to have the Box in the Video ! Its quite Simple just a Transformer with 50-100 Amps but must have Current Regulator using FETS Transistors and Control Timer to varies the welding Time as needed ! Thats all ! Can build one by yourself but requires knowlede in Electronics !
