I've used much of theSubTerrain kit for my layout (I'm a beginner), and I have to say, I'm truly impressed! Plaster cloth, when layered, becomes hard as rock, and speaking of rocks, the moulds are insanely realistic and easy. Probably the piece that I had the most difficulty with was attaching the rocks to my layout, but that was more my error in design (I didn't create flat surfaces for the rocks to set on). I truly cannot say enough good things about these products; thank-you WS!
Matt, I would love to see you make an entire layout using everything Woodland Scenics has in either HO or O scale and offer it in an instructional DVD. You are a great modeler and Woodland Scenics is a great company! Thanks for sharing!
I love Woodland Scenics products. They are so easy to work with, and for the price, it's a pretty good deal, for the quality and quantity of the products. Also would like to mention, their customer service is top notch, very friendly staff.
We suggest using sectional track when adding details like this, but here are a few suggestions: 1. Stack strips of Paving Tape (ST1455) one on top of the other to build a gradual incline up to the rails on both sides of the track. Fill in area with Smooth-It (ST1452) 2. Use a piece of foam to cut an incline up to the rails. Cut out the underneath section of the foam to set on top of the roadbed. 3. Contact the track manufacturer. They may have ready-built pieces of track for crossings.
Thanks for sharing. I guess the the layout bendable foam risers (4" x 2 glued on top of one another) would work under shaper sheets for more stability with a heavier model sitting on a hill crest (Sand dune)? Thanks again /Rosemary
To support the Shaper Sheet and give it more stability, we recommend our Support Panels. They can be cut using our Hot Wire Foam Cutter, Foam Knife, scissors, or a hobby knife to create the shape of the understructure you're looking for. We would also highly recommend reading our Complete Guide to Model Scenery, as it contains lots of relevant information filled with tips and methods.
Our SubTerrain Lightweight Layout System products are a great choice for modules. We recommend a ½” foam sheet base to start, adding materials specific to your design from there. We do have a Mod-U-Rail System that may interest you also and you can view those modules on our website also.
Risers and Inclines/Declines can be used with Lionel FasTrack. If O gauge, they will need to be placed side-by-side so they are wide enough to support the track. We recommend covering Risers and Inclines/Declines with Plaster Cloth prior to laying track. Attach the FasTrack to Plaster Cloth with Foam Tack Glue.
If using the incline starters. would it be safe to extend them off the board for a higher incline. What's the highest mark or tip of the end of the product.
JT The Railfan Hello JT...we are not exactly sure what you are asking, but we're giving it a shot with a guess. If you need further clarification, please ask a follow-up question! :-) We do not recommend extending the Incline off the board for a higher incline, because you need support under the Inclines. In this video we used a 4” Riser and the Incline would depend upon the grade you want to achieve. The highest mark or tip of the Riser would be 4” + Incline of your choice. Hope this is helpful!
Yes, you can stack and glue Risers together to achieve your preferred height. You can do this with any combination of our Risers and Inclines/Declines. Our Low Temp Foam Glue Gun and Glue Sticks work well with this. You can also use Foam Tack Glue.

Are you referring to how much of all the products that are used in the video to make the layout, or are you referring to how much of one certain product was used in the video?
I have one question for you, Woodland Scenics: Why do people make model scenery? I would imagine sometimes people make it for science projects, or maybe for business or landscaping reasons, or maybe just as a hobby. These reasons make sense, but what importance does model scenery have in these areas? What can someone benefit from them?
All of your ideas for why people make model scenery are correct! Businesses might model a new building they are going to build to create a visual for what the real thing might look like. Kids can use these products or our Scene-A-Rama products to complete school projects. Many hobbyists like to model things like games, miniatures and trains, and they often like to have scenery to complement their model. Others do it just to have fun. There are all kinds of reasons people model scenery!
Is it possible to use N gauge FLEX TRACK on Woodland Scenics Scenic Ridge Kit because of the tight curves. They won't have the Track Kit in stock for several months.

What if your track has a hard roadbed on it? What would be good or bad about it, and how would I cut into the roadbed for a RR crossing?
With the sub terrain layout system, can you make a layout in section modules. like 4 4'x8' sections?
Our SubTerrain Lightweight Layout System products are a great choice for modules. We recommend a ½” foam sheet base to start, adding materials specific to your design from there. We do have a Mod-U-Rail System that may interest you also and you can view those modules on our website also.
How durable are these products?
Do they make this for gscale
How would you lay fastrack down on the risers and inine/decline sets?
