Love that your favorite is Young jae, interview him if you can. God, his voice keep getting better and better, and he also just got casted in a musical show
page two pray poison i am me love you better you calling my name(you are going to love it ) not by the moon come on the whole winter heptagon album actually it is such a nice album (genuinely)
i actually love the idea of a vocal coach interviewing the boys about their vocals , because all of them has grown a lot with thier solo cariers especially the rappers of the group. i think it would be nice if you could interview them
thank youu! it would be amazing. Most of the companies are scared of interviews with me. It is always planned and then the directive comes not to talk about vocals. Really the only group so far was tripleS and the rest cancelled or - I cancelled because why if we cannot talk about singing :(
"Such a good voice for R&B" you said about Yugyeom which is funny because thats kinda exactly the direction he is going with his solos. "Sweet Like" or "Take You Down". He also goes down the register as you mentioned he would sound good in.
JayB’s voice is probably my favorite in all of kpop. He wasn’t originally a lead/main vocal but was coached/trained up to where he is right now. His tone is so smooth and clean in a piercing way, it’s kind of addicting. He and Youngjae are probably one of the more underrated main vocals of 3rd gen. I do recommend you check out the behind the scenes shorts of their Killing Voice (it’s the channel pinned in the original Killing Voice) it shows some more raw vocals as they only get the music into their IEM and we don’t hear it
@@Katriinka I don’t think so, those YT shorts are the only ones I’ve seen so far. I believe most of the fans are requesting for the full version (if it exists) to be released so we will see.
funny thing is, 3 of the vocal line actually auditioned as a dancer 😂 jinyoung (red shirt) even debuted as a rapper in JJ Project. Dingo actually released a shorts of the behind the scenes in killing voice. their raw vocals and the chaos in the studio 🤣🤣🤣 jayb (white shirt) and youngjae (denim guy) is also on lee mujin service hope you would react to that too❤
The thing with Youngjae (the one you said at the end it was your favorite) is that he's a musical actor too that's why you see the absolute drama in his voice and why his technique is so perfect, also Jay B and Yugyeom ARE elegant R&B singers in their solo careers you should really check out Yugyeom's discography you could hear his lower register shine so much.
Got7 was formed as a HipHop group, so they had three rappers (Jackson Bambam and Mark) but over time and especially now that they're fully in charge of their music they have broken away from that label and everyone just leans more towards singing. There is a lot more variety now in who sings which part because their previously assigned roles have become obsolete with them being able to decide among themselves. Youngjae (second from left) was exclusively casted for his vocals and always has and still does practice singing diligently. He's starring in his third musical soon. It's a shame that there aren't official recordings of his previous ones or I would have told you to check them out. I think they all take pride in how they improved over the years, but if you were to ask for an interview keep in mind that even though they're not signed to an agency as a group, most of them are still signed with a company individually and not self-employed, so the response can be the same.
I'm so glad you did this, I have been waiting for your breakdown into their voices. I love all you said about them and how right you are on how they used their voices
its so cute how u pronounced bambam 😂 Im not an ahgase but ive been growing up listening to got7 and saw them releasing Encore too and this comeback made me so so so happy so excited! After discharged they became more lovey dovey (like day6), more handsome too ofc hehe but its unfortunate theres no You Calling My Name in the Killing Voice, same goes to Last Piece, Fly 😭 so I’d recommend you to react more of their songs ❤ Anyways thank you for reacting to this!!
The guy with the edge in his voice is Jay B (our fearless and very overworked leader, thank you Jay B for coordinating this comeback, lol!), he's got an incredible stage presence (I saw them live in 2019 and omg he's a menace) and knows how to do eye contact way too well for our sake. The guy who's voice you like (with the red shirt and black jacket) is Jinyoung, Jay B and him debuted as a duo first (JJ Project = JJP) then they redebuted with GOT7. Jinyoung is barely back from the military but he didn't lose any of his talent through those years! He mostly acts these days but he's multifaceted and they actually made him rap back in JJP lmao. They're all crazy performers and amazing singers, even those who are from the rap line (Mark = weird sweater guy, Bambam and Jackson). Mark's voice is sweet and his vibe is so cool!! The song he made for their new album is my favourite ngl (it's called Out the Door!). The very tall one on the right is the youngest, his name is Yugyeom and he and Jay B have a sub-unit called Jus2. It's very r&b and the vocals are amazing. You should check it out! Finally, that's Youngjae next to Bambam! He's incredibly talented and belts out super well imo (even though I'm super biaised ahahah). I really like his voice because he always sounds like he's smiling. If you ever check out their newest album (they performed most songs in their three concerts last week), you'll get to see each of their music colour and personal tastes, it's very nice. I didn't talk much about Jackson and Bambam because you apparently already know them :D Thank you for your reaction, btw!!! It's very nice to see these men get some love and I also found the way you explained things very comprehensible :)
I LOVE LOVE your reactions and explanations of these kinds of live performances. I've listened to Got7 for so long but its so cool to still be learning more about their vocal styles and techniques, and your explanations are so easy to understand. I think Jayb's voice is my favourite, I think there's something about the sharpness (?) in higher register that has so much impact, but his lower register is so warm and soothing. Jinyoung's falsettos are super pretty too. Jayb and Youngjae have a recent Lee Mujin service episode too btw! Have you ever reacted to Jonghyun from SHINee (same group as Taemin)? I feel like he has such a unique voice (esp in kpop) and i just neeed someone to tell me what he's doing 🙏 I remember you reacting to Xiaojun's lee mujin service where he sang End of a Day by Jonghyun (and i adore his version), but Jjong's live performance of that song is stunning.
you saying I am easy to understand means a lot to me!! I do try my best to make singing more approachable for everyone. :) I havent got into shinee yet, I just really love Taemin, he is my favorite person with IU from kpop. So I am excited to finally get more into entire shinee too!
I know this is might not an official performance, like in music show. But I want to recommend you 'Let Me (Switch Part)' performance from one of their fan meeting (cmiiw). The song is amazing, and every member killed it! They switched their singing parts.
you should check out yugyeom's (the one on the far left w the brown jacket) solo songs if you like his voice ! i don't exactly stan him but a few of his songs have gotten on my playlist and they lowkey have that rnb vibe that you said would fit his voice. i recommend checking out la sol mi, it's my personal fave
They have improved vocally since debut, esp. Yugyeom I think. There are 2 main vocalists - JayB (second one from the right) and Youngjae (the second one from the left). Youngjae has always been the main one who belts. His singing style seems to have been influenced by his musical practices although he may not be fully aware. (Esp. the vibrato. I think he didn't use vibrato as much before he started doing musicals.) When his musical schedule and album recording schedule overlapped, the co-producer even queried what's wrong with his bel canto-like vocalization. 🤣 JayB is also in charge of the upper register usually. And it seems that he's more comfortable with singing in upper register than yj. Because yj did ask for lowering the keys of some songs (but in vein) so that he can sing more comfortably lol
I do agree with you that, sometimes, it's not that easy even for professional singers to "drop de jaw". I guess in Yugyeom's case (the one you were talking about the jaw thing) he is GOT7's main dancer. So I think he is usually super focused on saving air for his dance moves and I think having his jaw a bit closed allows him to let less air out so he can sing and dance and not faint without air. Also the tension on the muscles of having to focus on remembering the dance moves and the lyrics.
Yeah, I think it’s specifically something that JYP (Jinyoung Park -not GOT7 one)was known for telling his artists not to do (open their mouths too wide) there’s a Knowing Bros episode with him saying it to them
the way jyp has the tightest jaw too, it makes sense ah... dancers tend to have more intense faces too, which can contribute, or many other things. It takes a bit of time, but it can get better though :)
I have been WAITING for this. I couldn't bring a real critical eye to their KV, because it was so chaotic and fun. Also less obviously (robotically) tuned in post that other performances. No shade to the previous artists: feels like a show production choice for the better.
Thanks for the reaction!! I just found them and I instantly liked them. I love the their vocals specially the one with the leather jacket I think his name is Youngjae or something. I hope to see more about them.
@@Katriinka Yeah I heard about them years ago but I didnt know the members or how incredible vocals the have. I think I'll look for more content related to them.
38:13 i love how you breakdown jayb’s high note there, i can feel something is not done optimally and then you point out about how the vowel is a nasty one for such way of singing. that explains alooot.
Ahh really? It’s a thing? Wow. Also it’s interesting how you unconsciously chose and enjoyed songs that were actually written by themselves like python, thursday, look, page (over the other songs). It really tells when they themselves write it, they know how to utilise each of the members’ strength, weakness and color.
I am Jay-B biased, but that part of NBTM has *never* been his strong suit. You can even tell that there's post-work to smooth his transitions up the scale. I think if they did the self-produced this song today Youngjae would have sang that part. That's the blessing of current day GOT7: they are making songs that suit them better. Even on Jay-B's solo title "Crash" he's making better choices live than sticking original CD topline, that by his own admission was hard on the high end.
2:55 AURA you say? Search up the "AURA" live premiere or performance. Youngjae (the musical actor) wrote it and holds down the chorus. And Bam's voice is so low. There's a touch of stylistic autotune, but per usual there's no overbearing backing track. And the choreo. Ahem. Enjoy!
Got7 live performances to check out: • Got the stage (specifically sick, sign, moon u and to me). These are live performances of some of their bsides. • Got7 you are van live • Got7 lullaby pikicast For music show stages: • Python mcountdown which you mentioned featured raw vocals • You calling my name mcountdown comeback stage • Poison mcountdown come back stage
In case no one mentioned it, JayB and Young Jae did Lee Mujin Service recently as well (first time with two guests) They are so damn happy now that they are completely free to make music the way that they want.
GOT7 R&B is sooo good. Check out Prove It, Sick, and everything from the DYE album! That's just for starters... all their albums and bsides are bops! And their solo work are all soooo good! And I loved all the details you pointed out! For vocal switch parts, there's "Let Me" switch part (fan fave vid)!
A side note, Jayb also goes by Def. He has music as Def and also as part of a producer group called Õffshore or Øffshore (just pronounced Offshore). He does more R&B as Def.
for me, yugyeom's (the one with the brown jacket, that cant let loose of his jaw hahaha) voice improved the most since their solo projects. yes, he is into RnB. and i love his songs, check out "i want you around"," all your fault" and "ponytail".
Initially there were 4 main singers and 3 rappers in GOT7 but now even the rappers sing so yeah😅 You also mentioned that Yugyeom (far right) has a good voice for R&B and his solo music is actually R&B and JayB (second from right) is also R&B singer. His latest song "Cloud Nine" is really good too. Maybe you can check that out. It's more of his style.
oh yes that jayb high note hurts, you can hear his struggle. and he actually has one that I think is harder, in love loop. but we only have concert videos of it, none official live like this
50:25 they do this all the time in their songs actually! the main vocalists are jaebeom (second from the right) and youngjae (second from the left) and the lead vocalists are jinyoung (center) and yugyeom (far right). but there are many songs where the lead vocalists end up singing the “main” parts because their vocal tones may suit the song more. I love when they distribute lines this way because it really shows that they know each other’s vocal tones and strengths well and can utilize them in the best way. An example I can think of is “you calling my name” (this one is a fan favorite that I definitely recommend reacting to!) where jinyoung and yugyeom sings the chorus because they’re usually more suited to head voice as opposed to jaebeom and youngjae’s chesty chorus in “not by the moon” 🤍
I really don't know what to recommend ahgases always recommend the same videos but in reality JYP and post JYP GOT7 vocals are day and night I think they always had the potential but within a year after they left GOT7 their vocals improved SO SO SO MUCH, I think it would be better to review recent solo activities than group performances of when they still were im JYP
Yeeees, GOT7 has 3 main singers, Youngjae is the main in voice technique (the one besides BamBam) with JB (with the unique voice and great talent) and Jinyoung (the one in the midle, with the sweet clear voice) but Jinyoung and JB started as rappers as a duo before GOT7's debut. Listen to Bounce, it's their song together.
You mentioned that Yugyeom(the one on the far right) has a good voice for RnB and you are spot on. His solo style is RnB. Also him and JayB the one right next to him with the more edgy voice have a duo album together that is pure sexy RnB. I highly suggest it to you. Their duo's name is Jus2, their album's title is Focus, which is also the main title song! Thank you for your interesting and fun take on their voices by the way!
Your observations about Yugyeom are great! Actually, he has always been the weakest between the vocal line, he debuted as a sub rapper even. His voice used to crack a lot too, as if he was still in his teenager years. His time as a solist did wonderssss to his technique, he improved so, so much! I hope he keeps doing whatever it is that made him improve so much 💚
at 43:43 “I know I’m an icon” is still Yugyeom’s line (the guy on the right) but since he did not sing it I think Youngjae (second guy from the left next to bambam) decided to sing “icon”for him! Yugyeom also omits this line during live stages and I think he does this to breathe and sing more comfortably because the dynamics of the line before and after it are very different so it could be a little difficult? just my opinion! I love your analysis and attention to detail, I’m also a really big fan of yugyeom’s vocal tone and lower/mid register hahah
Amazing video honestly. I wanted to see vocal coaches analyzing and reviewing this video and I'm so glad yours popped up on my home page. I was surprised but weirdly proud when you said you assume there are 3 main vocals in this group. They actually have 2; Jay b (with developed dynamics) and youngjae (with your fave technique). The one in the middle who went for the head voice and falsetto the most is jinyoung and he is funnily enough a sub-vocalist lol yugyeom (the one with brown jacket) is the main dancer of the group so that is why I am assuming that maybe their previous company did not lean heavier on his vocal techniques..? Nonetheless, he and jinyoung have my fave vocal tones in the group. Also, you were correct on yugyeom in the sense that he is in fact an RnB/hip-hop singer on his solo works. As for my recommendations, I guess I want to recommend jinyoung's dive for you as live performances. There is also got7's moon u with a live performance but I am pretty sure it was edited as well 😅 nonetheless, got7 is a group that has been singing live as much as possible ever since their debut so even when you go back to their 2014, you can hear their live vocals and can even compare just how much they have grown. Thank you once again for this amazing video. Loved every second of it ❤

for me, yugyeom's (the one with the brown jacket, that cant let loose of his jaw hahaha) voice improved the most since their solo projects. yes, he is into RnB. and i love his songs, check out "i want you around"," all your fault" and "ponytail".
aahhh i was waiting for your react video to them
Initially there were 4 main singers and 3 rappers in GOT7 but now even the rappers sing so yeah😅
You also mentioned that Yugyeom (far right) has a good voice for R&B and his solo music is actually R&B and JayB (second from right) is also R&B singer. His latest song "Cloud Nine" is really good too. Maybe you can check that out. It's more of his style.
oh yes that jayb high note hurts, you can hear his struggle. and he actually has one that I think is harder, in love loop. but we only have concert videos of it, none official live like this
BamBam had a cold during the recording and he still did great, especially Python.
ohhh now THAT explains a lot actually haha. Also him using so much air haha
This was basically a yugyum analysis and i am not disappointed
I really don't know what to recommend ahgases always recommend the same videos but in reality JYP and post JYP GOT7 vocals are day and night I think they always had the potential but within a year after they left GOT7 their vocals improved SO SO SO MUCH, I think it would be better to review recent solo activities than group performances of when they still were im JYP
ohh, that also might work with my theory about the ideal positions for them in the songs that were still under JYP!
I would love to see you react a guide for GOT7. I think you'll love them!
you look soo good btw
ahhhh thank youuu! it was one of those "hair is finally hairing" days haha
OMG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS
Loving your reaction
Thank you for this reaction💚 ,and we need a reaction to gfriend killing voice🤩
Thank you 💚
i was waiting for your reaction
Yeeees, GOT7 has 3 main singers, Youngjae is the main in voice technique (the one besides BamBam) with JB (with the unique voice and great talent) and Jinyoung (the one in the midle, with the sweet clear voice) but Jinyoung and JB started as rappers as a duo before GOT7's debut. Listen to Bounce, it's their song together.
ooh thank you for the info!they definitely are not scared of singing though, even the rappers, I like that!
I think you will love the live performance of 1:31AM, it is a song sung by JayB and Youngjae. It is a real tear jerker 🥺💚
oooh that duet sounds good! I will check it out!
Thank you for your interesting and fun take on their voices by the way!
pure sexy rnb? I am SOLD.
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Your observations about Yugyeom are great! Actually, he has always been the weakest between the vocal line, he debuted as a sub rapper even. His voice used to crack a lot too, as if he was still in his teenager years. His time as a solist did wonderssss to his technique, he improved so, so much! I hope he keeps doing whatever it is that made him improve so much 💚
YESSS
You should react to their GOT THE STAGE performances. Their japanese songs are so good too.
at 43:43 “I know I’m an icon” is still Yugyeom’s line (the guy on the right) but since he did not sing it I think Youngjae (second guy from the left next to bambam) decided to sing “icon”for him! Yugyeom also omits this line during live stages and I think he does this to breathe and sing more comfortably because the dynamics of the line before and after it are very different so it could be a little difficult? just my opinion! I love your analysis and attention to detail, I’m also a really big fan of yugyeom’s vocal tone and lower/mid register hahah
you should react to got7 jayb's solo music, its all rnb! i suggest crash, cloud 9, go up, into you, ettc.
Loved every second of it ❤
thank you so so much! so happy I got to finally make one for you guys, I heard the BEST things about the fandom. Excited to finally meet you! :)
