I think what u heard was the backing track, but on Chen's part, that was naturally his vibrato haha u can actually hear him do that everytime when he sings live that's why I really love listening to them live, esp their live performances with live vocals 🤌
What happens is that it is a different vibrato. Instead of oscillating in notes, what he does is make his larynx vibrate. And being so far from the microphone and singing at a low volume, it sounds unnatural because of the volume leveling. That part also caught my attention at first, but as an audio engineer, it is clearly not autotune.

Chen is just on another level in term of singing. He is currently the best vocalist in Kpop. Exo has 3 main vocalists Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. This trio are very well respected and appreciated singers in Kpop. Junior idols idolize them. Also Chen is the best at both higher and lower notes among all Exo members. You should check out their solo albums too. 8 members among 9 of them are successful soloists. Maknae Sehun is yet to debut. Also all members have made their acting debut long ago and are successful actors. Though Chen and Baekhyun are not that focused to acting , they are also so good in acting.
@@Lupita311 I'm saying currently because Shinee's Jonghyun was there one time. There are other great vocalists in Kpop but no one can surpass Chen's level. If we compare Chen with 2nd gen's vocalists, then I'd say Chen has improved so much in 12 years that he is on the same level of those great vocalists from 1st and 2nd generations.

Guy #2 is D.O. (Do Kyungsoo) he’s a very successful actor. He recently mentioned on IUs palette that that is why he doesn’t look at the camera, it’s embarrassing, but also you don’t look at the camera while acting. So it’s very hard for him to stare at the camera. He also had very poor vision until recently when he got laser eye surgery so he couldn’t see people anyway, but now he can see them all haha. Maybe that embarrasses him more now that he can see people are looking at him.

I don't think I did him justice either, but I don't know if he was a little sick because he coughs a few times and drinks more water than the rest, also they don't give him the parts of the songs where he stands out like in Mama instead of starting he starts with the part of Suho or in Monster that he doesn't sing the "Ye ye ye.." I don't know if he asked for it or if they prepared it that way... But if those who do not know it and have only seen this do not notice it...

Yes, Dingo does some post production work to clean things up, but not to the point of giving an artist vibrato. That would defeat the purpose of the show's premise. And most of the people watching are pretty much experts on what Chen's voice sounds like under various circumstances. I understand that you're making the point of how widely used that feature is. But to tell someone to educate themselves is just belittling when that person was obviously just triggered, as EXO-Ls were conditioned to be when they feel a member is not getting credit for being just that amazingly good. There were many scandalous accusations over the years. I agree autotune is necessary - sometimes. But not in every case. And not this one.

Yess they are known as one of the best group out here in terms of vocal, regardless of gender and generations. EXO has 3 main vocalist that is why they are really overpowered in vocals. And each of these 3 has their own expertise. CHEN, as you have noticed many times, the one in the middle, often considered as the best vocalist in EXO - is the king of high notes, has the strongest vibrato voice and great resonance. No wonder why he has also called as the king of OSTs/Ballad. Even though he's mostly recognizable for his high notes, he is surprisingly very good at lower range as well, even surpassing our baritone rappers. BAEKHYUN, you have seen him too. His area of expertise is his head voice/falsetto, as you may notice a lot of times too in his newest song 'Pineapple Slice'. He is also capable of really high notes, just like Chen, as he's generally has higher ranges. He's also considered as semi-agile vocalist, as he also utilizes a lot of riffs and runs swiftly, more agile than Chen. Same as Chen, he sung a lot of OSTs too. now D.O. Black jacket, black hair, second from the left, his skills is not really showcased much in Killing Voice, but just so you know, he is THE MOST AGILE VOCALIST in EXO, surpassing Baekhyun and Chen, or maybe the most agile male vocalist by far in the entire K-Pop Industry. He can execute complex riffs and runs swiftly up to tens of notes. That is why he is also in charge for MOST EXO ADLIBS. He is also a great belter - up to A4 and still has a very good resonance with chest voice. For more showcase of his vocals, I recommend you watching 'EXO Accoustic Medley' or his solo performance 'Tell Me What is Love'. It is very though to rank these 3 main vocalist. They are all 100 out of 100, just excel in different area, but if I should really rank them in some specific aspects, then: Upper Range: Baekhyun > Chen > D.O. Mix/Belting: Chen > D.O. > Baekhyun Lower Range: Chen > Baekhyun > D.O. Agility: D.O. > Baekhyun > Chen But if I should pick a vocal bias it will be D.O. because I love his tone a lot. “Mr Nonchalant” is the one & only Doh Kyungsoo/D.O. It’s a toss up between him & Baekhyun as to RNB crown cos “no one does runs like DO”. But DO prefers acoustic/Ed Sheeran type songs. Most of EXO are in k dramas. And very successful. But D.O is the one that is recognised separately as one of Korea’s award winning actors. The acoustic medley and fan medley 2024 b sides are probably the ones that capture why they earned the title bangers. Their discography is diverse with every genre covered.
D.O. is known for his nonchalant expression and effortless singing. another reactor said he looks like he was waiting for the bus lol. He knows where the camera but he said he finds looking at camera awkward personality. He is also one of the main vocalists (along with Chen and Baekhyun). I highly suggest looking at his solo work too. Or at least his covers. He’s also a known and multi-awarded actor in SK.

There _is_ autotune in this video. EXO doesn't need it-they would sound amazing regardless-it's just how Killing Voice works. KV isn't interested in presenting raw vocals, they want the most "polished" version of live vocals and that means autotune and post-processing.
To be fair, there are post-processing effects, but in another way your comment is proof that their live vocals are incredible, they're good enough that they sound the same without autotune. Chen is known for his vibrato and every other vocal technique there is, so autotune is pretty useless!
There is definitely post-processing for Killing Voice to get that high-quality studio sound. But EXO doesn't need to prove anything, they are already known as vocal kings. Plus the processing isn't as bad as OTHER kpop groups that has been on there (not gonna name names....).

Love this post. I would add that D.O. is not just K-dramas but stars in movies. He was a main character in The Moon last year. He's won a Blue Dragon Award, among the most prestigious in SK. The Korean Film Council also made D.O. (Doh Kyungsoo) one of the 200 actors to represent the past, present and future of SK Film. His acting is the reason I started listening to EXO and kpop in general (but mostly EXO) last year. lol

The guy 2nd to the left (D.O) deserves more love! He does definitely have a nonchalant expression while singing though lol. I don't think this Killing Voice did him justice for being one of the 3 main vocals in EXO. I highly recommend checking out his appearance on Leemujin Service.
I don't think I did him justice either, but I don't know if he was a little sick because he coughs a few times and drinks more water than the rest, also they don't give him the parts of the songs where he stands out like in Mama instead of starting he starts with the part of Suho or in Monster that he doesn't sing the "Ye ye ye.." I don't know if he asked for it or if they prepared it that way... But if those who do not know it and have only seen this do not notice it...

Yes, Dingo does some post production work to clean things up, but not to the point of giving an artist vibrato. That would defeat the purpose of the show's premise. And most of the people watching are pretty much experts on what Chen's voice sounds like under various circumstances. I understand that you're making the point of how widely used that feature is. But to tell someone to educate themselves is just belittling when that person was obviously just triggered, as EXO-Ls were conditioned to be when they feel a member is not getting credit for being just that amazingly good. There were many scandalous accusations over the years. I agree autotune is necessary - sometimes. But

Yess they are known as one of the best group out here in terms of vocal, regardless of gender and generations. EXO has 3 main vocalist that is why they are really overpowered in vocals. And each of these 3 has their own expertise.
CHEN, as you have noticed many times, the one in the middle, often considered as the best vocalist in EXO - is the king of high notes, has the strongest vibrato voice and great resonance. No wonder why he has also called as the king of OSTs/Ballad. Even though he's mostly recognizable for his high notes, he is surprisingly very good at lower range as well, even surpassing our baritone rappers.
BAEKHYUN, you have seen him too. His area of expertise is his head voice/falsetto, as you may notice a lot of times too in his newest song 'Pineapple Slice'. He is also capable of really high notes, just like Chen, as he's generally has higher ranges. He's also considered as semi-agile vocalist, as he also utilizes a lot of riffs and runs swiftly, more agile than Chen. Same as Chen, he sung a lot of OSTs too.
now D.O. Black jacket, black hair, second from the left, his skills is not really showcased much in Killing Voice, but just so you know, he is THE MOST AGILE VOCALIST in EXO, surpassing Baekhyun and Chen, or maybe the most agile male vocalist by far in the entire K-Pop Industry. He can execute complex riffs and runs swiftly up to tens of notes. That is why he is also in charge for MOST EXO ADLIBS. He is also a great belter - up to A4 and still has a very good resonance with chest voice. For more showcase of his vocals, I recommend you watching 'EXO Accoustic Medley' or his solo performance 'Tell Me What is Love'.
It is very though to rank these 3 main vocalist. They are all 100 out of 100, just excel in different area, but if I should really rank them in some specific aspects, then:
Upper Range: Baekhyun > Chen > D.O.
Mix/Belting: Chen > D.O. > Baekhyun
Lower Range: Chen > Baekhyun > D.O.
Agility: D.O. > Baekhyun > Chen
But if I should pick a vocal bias it will be D.O. because I love his tone a lot. Anyways, hope this helps and I'll be waiting for more EXO reactions, especially live performances!

“Mr Nonchalant” is the one & only Doh Kyungsoo/D.O. It’s a toss up between him & Baekhyun as to RNB crown cos “no one does runs like DO”. But DO prefers acoustic/Ed Sheeran type songs. Most of EXO are in k dramas. And very successful. But D.O is the one that is recognised separately as one of Korea’s award winning actors. The acoustic medley and fan medley 2024 b sides are probably the ones that capture why they earned the title bangers. Their discography is diverse with every genre covered.
D.O. is known for his nonchalant expression and effortless singing. another reactor said he looks like he was waiting for the bus lol. He knows where the camera but he said he finds looking at camera awkward personality. He is also one of the main vocalists (along with Chen and Baekhyun). I highly suggest looking at his solo work too. Or at least his covers. He’s also a known and multi-awarded actor in SK.
Chen also has some solo mini albums, his first solo is "Beautiful goodbye" and it is so pretty and great.

There _is_ autotune in this video. EXO doesn't need it-they would sound amazing regardless-it's just how Killing Voice works. KV isn't interested in presenting raw vocals, they want the most "polished" version of live vocals and that means autotune and post-processing.
While EXO doesn't need the autotune, KV always post process their audio. Unfortunate but that's just what KV does
To be fair, there are post-processing effects, but in another way your comment is proof that their live vocals are incredible, they're good enough that they sound the same without autotune. Chen is known for his vibrato and every other vocal technique there is, so autotune is pretty useless!
There is definitely post-processing for Killing Voice to get that high-quality studio sound. But EXO doesn't need to prove anything, they are already known as vocal kings. Plus the processing isn't as bad as OTHER kpop groups that has been on there (not gonna name names....).

Yes xiumin, kai, Sehun,Baekhyun, Suho,Lay, , Chanyeol is also an actor recently he's in the Netflix suspense thriller the frog while D.O is the most award winning actor among them 20+ acting award to be exact. Even though Chen is not an actor he also acts in the musical and in a web series exo next door and he is also known as the OST king best most of the famous kdrama. They are also good in musical instruments most of them are degree holders like Chanyeol interior design, Xiumin have PhD in music and Suho in business and D.O the license chef. Plus 3 of them have their own Company like Baekhyun, Lay ,D.O
D.O. (Singing to the heavens) is right up there with Baekhyun and Chen when it comes to vocals. He’s been touted as equal to both. His solo works will prove it. And, given their history on live performances I seriously doubt there was any adjustments on anything they sang.
Having said that comparing any of them to another is an injustice to their talents. They’re truly all gems that make up a beautiful piece of jewelry!

Kyung Soo, the "Unbothered King",with the black jacket, has done a lot of covers lately, for example, a little bit of Rewrite The Stars, Perfect, duet with IU, Love Wins All, etc Chen, Baekhyun and Kyung Soo, are the main vocalist of EXO, but also the lead vocalists and rappers can sing soooo well. Vocal Kings, Emperors of K-pop. Actors: Kyung Soo, Chanyeol, Suho, Sehun (currently in MS), Xiumin and Lay (is no longer with SM but he still considers himself part of EXO and so do we) and the ones that have participated in kdramas, Kai (is not here, he´s in the MS) and Baekhyun. Love this post. I would add that D.O. is not just K-dramas but stars in movies. He was a main character in The Moon last year. He's won a Blue Dragon Award, among the most prestigious in SK. The Korean Film Council also made D.O. (Doh Kyungsoo) one of the 200 actors to represent the past, present and future of SK Film. His acting is the reason I started listening to EXO and kpop in general (but mostly EXO) last year. lol
