I think what u heard was the backing track, but on Chen's part, that was naturally his vibrato haha u can actually hear him do that everytime when he sings live that's why I really love listening to them live, esp their live performances with live vocals 🤌
What happens is that it is a different vibrato. Instead of oscillating in notes, what he does is make his larynx vibrate. And being so far from the microphone and singing at a low volume, it sounds unnatural because of the volume leveling. That part also caught my attention at first, but as an audio engineer, it is clearly not autotune.

Chen is just on another level in term of singing. He is currently the best vocalist in Kpop. Exo has 3 main vocalists Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. This trio are very well respected and appreciated singers in Kpop. Junior idols idolize them. Also Chen is the best at both higher and lower notes among all Exo members. You should check out their solo albums too. 8 members among 9 of them are successful soloists. Maknae Sehun is yet to debut. Also all members have made their acting debut long ago and are successful actors. Though Chen and Baekhyun are not that focused to acting , they are also so good in acting.
@@Lupita311 I'm saying currently because Shinee's Jonghyun was there one time. There are other great vocalists in Kpop but no one can surpass Chen's level. If we compare Chen with 2nd gen's vocalists, then I'd say Chen has improved so much in 12 years that he is on the same level of those great vocalists from 1st and 2nd generations.

Guy #2 is D.O. (Do Kyungsoo) he’s a very successful actor. He recently mentioned on IUs palette that that is why he doesn’t look at the camera, it’s embarrassing, but also you don’t look at the camera while acting. So it’s very hard for him to stare at the camera. He also had very poor vision until recently when he got laser eye surgery so he couldn’t see people anyway, but now he can see them all haha. Maybe that embarrasses him more now that he can see people are looking at him.

D.O is the type of a super calm guy. He also can sing with high notes and belting while sitting down..and of course, with the same expressions. Always... You guys should watch another video of him covering Love Wins All by IU & V and Rewrite The Star. Last but not least, Chen, Baekhyun & D.O are the perfect trio in EXO. People called them the untouchable exo trio / superior trio.
“Mr Nonchalant” is the one & only Doh Kyungsoo/D.O. It’s a toss up between him & Baekhyun as to RNB crown cos “no one does runs like DO”. But DO prefers acoustic/Ed Sheeran type songs. Most of EXO are in k dramas. And very successful. But D.O is the one that is recognised separately as one of Korea’s award winning actors. The acoustic medley and fan medley 2024 b sides are probably the ones that capture why they earned the title bangers. Their discography is diverse with every genre covered.
Funny you mention D.O. not looking at the 'audience'. He is a highly accomplished, award winning actor as well so I always think he must have trained himself specifically not to look a the camera! He's so good at it.

The guy 2nd to the left (D.O) deserves more love! He does definitely have a nonchalant expression while singing though lol. I don't think this Killing Voice did him justice for being one of the 3 main vocals in EXO. I highly recommend checking out his appearance on Leemujin Service.
I don't think I did him justice either, but I don't know if he was a little sick because he coughs a few times and drinks more water than the rest, also they don't give him the parts of the songs where he stands out like in Mama instead of starting he starts with the part of Suho or in Monster that he doesn't sing the "Ye ye ye.." I don't know if he asked for it or if they prepared it that way... But if those who do not know it and have only seen this do not notice it...

Yess they are known as one of the best group out here in terms of vocal, regardless of gender and generations. EXO has 3 main vocalist that is why they are really overpowered in vocals. And each of these 3 has their own expertise. CHEN, as you have noticed many times, the one in the middle, often considered as the best vocalist in EXO - is the king of high notes, has the strongest vibrato voice and great resonance. No wonder why he has also called as the king of OSTs/Ballad. Even though he's mostly recognizable for his high notes, he is surprisingly very good at lower range as well, even surpassing our baritone rappers. BAEKHYUN, you have seen him too. His area of expertise is his head voice/falsetto, as you may notice a lot of times too in his newest song 'Pineapple Slice'. He is also capable of really high notes, just like Chen, as he's generally has higher ranges. He's also considered as semi-agile vocalist, as he also utilizes a lot of riffs and runs swiftly, more agile than Chen. Same as Chen, he sung a lot of OSTs too. now D.O. Black jacket, black hair, second from the left, his skills is not really showcased much in Killing Voice, but just so you know, he is THE MOST AGILE VOCALIST in EXO, surpassing Baekhyun and Chen, or maybe the most agile male vocalist by far in the entire K-Pop Industry. He can execute complex riffs and runs swiftly up to tens of notes. That is why he is also in charge for MOST EXO ADLIBS. He is also a great belter - up to A4 and still has a very good resonance with chest voice. For more showcase of his vocals, I recommend you watching 'EXO Accoustic Medley' or his solo performance 'Tell Me What is Love'. It is very though to rank these 3 main vocalist. They are all 100 out of 100, just excel in different area, but if I should really rank them in some specific aspects, then: Upper Range: Baekhyun > Chen > D.O. Mix/Belting: Chen > D.O. > Baekhyun Lower Range: Chen > Baekhyun > D.O. Agility: D.O. > Baekhyun > Chen But if I should pick a vocal bias it will be D.O. because I love his tone a lot. He knows where the camera but he said he finds looking at camera awkward personality. He is also one of the main vocalists (along with Chen and Baekhyun). I highly suggest looking at his solo work too. Or at least his covers. He’s also a known and multi-awarded actor in SK.

@@nalaa9618 Yes, "need" in terms of studio work as production teams process the songs. But they don't "need" it on a live stage, unless the song calls for it. Yes, Dingo does some post production work to clean things up, but not to the point of giving an artist vibrato. That would defeat the purpose of the show's premise. And most of the people watching are pretty much experts on what Chen's voice sounds like under various circumstances. I understand that you're making the point of how widely used that feature is. But to tell someone to educate themselves is just belittling when that person was obviously just triggered, as EXO-Ls were conditioned to be when they feel a member is not getting credit for being just that amazingly good. There were many scandalous accusations over the years. I agree autotune is necessary - sometimes. But not in every case. And not this one.

There _is_ autotune in this video. EXO doesn't need it-they would sound amazing regardless-it's just how Killing Voice works. KV isn't interested in presenting raw vocals, they want the most "polished" version of live vocals and that means autotune and post-processing.
To be fair, there are post-processing effects, but in another way your comment is proof that their live vocals are incredible, they're good enough that they sound the same without autotune. Chen is known for his vibrato and every other vocal technique there is, so autotune is pretty useless!
There is definitely post-processing for Killing Voice to get that high-quality studio sound. But EXO doesn't need to prove anything, they are already known as vocal kings. Plus the processing isn't as bad as OTHER kpop groups that has been on there (not gonna name names....).

Kyung Soo, the "Unbothered King",with the black jacket, has done a lot of covers lately, for example, a little bit of Rewrite The Stars, Perfect, duet with IU, Love Wins All, etc Chen, Baekhyun and Kyung Soo, are the main vocalist of EXO, but also the lead vocalists and rappers can sing soooo well. Vocal Kings, Emperors of K-pop. Love this post. I would add that D.O. is not just K-dramas but stars in movies. He was a main character in The Moon last year. He's won a Blue Dragon Award, among the most prestigious in SK. The Korean Film Council also made D.O. (Doh Kyungsoo) one of the 200 actors to represent the past, present and future of SK Film. His acting is the reason I started listening to EXO and kpop in general (but mostly EXO) last year. lol
@@WatchingSundays Just to add little information: EXO debuted with 12 members (8 Korean & 4 Chinese), but 3 Chinese members (Kris, Luhan & Tao) left at the beginning of 2 years of EXO's career. So EXO members officially became 9. However, due to Chinese-Korean political problems, the remaining Chinese members (Lay) went on hiatus and pursued solo careers in China. And at the time of making Killing Voice, Korean member & also the 2nd youngest member (Kai) was undergoing mandatory military service so there were only 7 active EXO members left. Finally, at the end of 2023 the maknae (Sehun) also be required to serve in the military. So 2024, there will be 6 people left and each member will now have a solo career. Hope 2025, EXO is expected to Comeback have full members.
For your information, apart from his singing talent, D.O is also a promising actor and has received around 30 awards. As an actor who is used to not facing the camera when acting, facing the camera while singing makes it awkward. D.O. (Singing to the heavens) is right up there with Baekhyun and Chen when it comes to vocals. He’s been touted as equal to both. His solo works will prove it. And, given their history on live performances I seriously doubt there was any adjustments on anything they sang. Having said that comparing any of them to another is an injustice to their talents. They’re truly all gems that make up a beautiful piece of jewelry! D.O. - Mr. Nonchalant - is an award winning actor as well.

Therefore, it's good that "you can call me monster" because they are being straight forward and warning you from the very beginning, so you can't say you were blindsided by their actions. "The First Snow" is a B-side song on one of their winter albums (They have more than one winter/holiday album). The song is about the magic of the first snowfall of the season and how it's the perfect atmosphere to fall in love. This song is so popular that you can hear it being played all over the place in Korea on the first day it snows, and it's pretty much considered a winter anthem that gets played nonstop all season long, especially around the holidays. EXO's "Power" was also used as one of the theme songs, along with their song "Growl," during the 2018 winter Olympics. EXO even performed both songs during the closing ceremony. What happens is that it is a different vibrato. Instead of oscillating in notes, what he does is make his larynx vibrate. And being so far from the microphone and singing at a low volume, it sounds unnatural because of the volume leveling. That part also caught my attention at first, but as an audio engineer, it is clearly not autotune.

Chen is just on another level in term of singing. He is currently the best vocalist in Kpop. Exo has 3 main vocalists Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. This trio are very well respected and appreciated singers in Kpop. Junior idols idolize them. Also Chen is the best at both higher and lower notes among all Exo members. You should check out their solo albums too. 8 members among 9 of them are successful soloists. Maknae Sehun is yet to debut. Also all members have made their acting debut long ago and are successful actors. Though Chen and Baekhyun are not that focused to acting , they are also so good in acting.

Guy #2 is D.O. (Do Kyungsoo) he’s a very successful actor. He recently mentioned on IUs palette that that is why he doesn’t look at the camera, it’s embarrassing, but also you don’t look at the camera while acting. So it’s very hard for him to stare at the camera. He also had very poor vision until recently when he got laser eye surgery so he couldn’t see people anyway, but now he can see them all haha. Maybe that embarrasses him more now that he can see people are looking at him.

“Mr Nonchalant” is the one & only Doh Kyungsoo/D.O. It’s a toss up between him & Baekhyun as to RNB crown cos “no one does runs like DO”. But DO prefers acoustic/Ed Sheeran type songs. Most of EXO are in k dramas. And very successful. But D.O is the one that is recognised separately as one of Korea’s award winning actors. The acoustic medley and fan medley 2024 b sides are probably the ones that capture why they earned the title bangers. Their discography is diverse with every genre covered.

I don't think I did him justice either, but I don't know if he was a little sick because he coughs a few times and drinks more water than the rest, also they don't give him the parts of the songs where he stands out like in Mama instead of starting he starts with the part of Suho or in Monster that he doesn't sing the "Ye ye ye.." I don't know if he asked for it or if they prepared it that way... But if those who do not know it and have only seen this do not notice it...

Yess they are known as one of the best group out here in terms of vocal, regardless of gender and generations. EXO has 3 main vocalist that is why they are really overpowered in vocals. And each of these 3 has their own expertise.
CHEN, as you have noticed many times, the one in the middle, often considered as the best vocalist in EXO - is the king of high notes, has the strongest vibrato voice and great resonance. No wonder why he has also called as the king of OSTs/Ballad. Even though he's mostly recognizable for his high notes, he is surprisingly very good at lower range as well, even surpassing our baritone rappers.
BAEKHYUN, you have seen him too. His area of expertise is his head voice/falsetto, as you may notice a lot of times too in his newest song 'Pineapple Slice'. He is also capable of really high notes, just like Chen, as he's generally has higher ranges. He's also considered as semi-agile vocalist, as he also utilizes a lot of riffs and runs swiftly, more agile than Chen. Same as Chen, he sung a lot of OSTs too.
now D.O. Black jacket, black hair, second from the left, his skills is not really showcased much in Killing Voice, but just so you know, he is THE MOST AGILE VOCALIST in EXO, surpassing Baekhyun and Chen, or maybe the most agile male vocalist by far in the entire K-Pop Industry. He can execute complex riffs and runs swiftly up to tens of notes. That is why he is also in charge for MOST EXO ADLIBS. He is also a great belter - up to A4 and still has a very good resonance with chest voice. For more showcase of his vocals, I recommend you watching 'EXO Accoustic Medley' or his solo performance 'Tell Me What is Love'.
It is very though to rank these 3 main vocalist. They are all 100 out of 100, just excel in different area, but if I should really rank them in some specific aspects, then:
Upper Range: Baekhyun > Chen > D.O.
Mix/Belting: Chen > D.O. > Baekhyun
Lower Range: Chen > Baekhyun > D.O.
Agility: D.O. > Baekhyun > Chen
But if I should pick a vocal bias it will be D.O. because I love his tone a lot. Anyways, hope this helps and I'll be waiting for more EXO reactions, especially live performances!

And most of the people watching are pretty much experts on what Chen's voice sounds like under various circumstances. I understand that you're making the point of how widely used that feature is. But to tell someone to educate themselves is just belittling when that person was obviously just triggered, as EXO-Ls were conditioned to be when they feel a member is not getting credit for being just that amazingly good. There _is_ autotune in this video. EXO doesn't need it-they would sound amazing regardless-it's just how Killing Voice works. KV isn't interested in presenting raw vocals, they want the most "polished" version of live vocals and that means autotune and post-processing.
While EXO doesn't need the autotune, KV always post process their audio. Unfortunate but that's just what KV does
To be fair, there are post-processing effects, but in another way your comment is proof that their live vocals are incredible, they're good enough that they sound the same without autotune. Chen is known for his vibrato and every other vocal technique there is, so autotune is pretty useless!
There is definitely post-processing for Killing Voice to get that high-quality studio sound. But EXO doesn't need to prove anything, they are already known as vocal kings. Plus the processing isn't as bad as OTHER kpop groups that has been on there (not gonna name names....).

Kyung Soo, the "Unbothered King",with the black jacket, has done a lot of covers lately, for example, a little bit of Rewrite The Stars, Perfect, duet with IU, Love Wins All, etc Chen, Baekhyun and Kyung Soo, are the main vocalist of EXO, but also the lead vocalists and rappers can sing soooo well. Vocal Kings, Emperors of K-pop. Actors: Kyung Soo, Chanyeol, Suho, Sehun (currently in MS), Xiumin and Lay (is no longer with SM but he still considers himself part of EXO and so do we) and the ones that have participated in kdramas, Kai (is not here, he´s in the MS) and Baekhyun. Love this post. I would add that D.O. is not just K-dramas but stars in movies. He was a main character in The Moon last year. He's won a Blue Dragon Award, among the most prestigious in SK. The Korean Film Council also made D.O. (Doh Kyungsoo) one of the 200 actors to represent the past, present and future of SK Film. His acting is the reason I started listening to EXO and kpop in general (but mostly EXO) last year. lol

Just to add little information:
EXO debuted with 12 members (8 Korean & 4 Chinese), but 3 Chinese members (Kris, Luhan & Tao) left at the beginning of 2 years of EXO's career. So EXO members officially became 9. However, due to Chinese-Korean political problems, the remaining Chinese members (Lay) went on hiatus and pursued solo careers in China. And at the time of making Killing Voice, Korean member & also the 2nd youngest member (Kai) was undergoing mandatory military service so there were only 7 active EXO members left.
Finally, at the end of 2023 the maknae (Sehun) also be required to serve in the military. So 2024, there will be 6 people left and each member will now have a solo career.
Hope 2025, EXO is expected to Comeback have full members.

This Killing Voice performance, just like all the other Killing voice videos you have watch, is supposed to showcase EXO's outstanding vocals, so what you are hearing is a compilation of some of the best parts of their songs that highlight their vocal abilities. (If there was auto tune being used that would completely defeat the whole purpose of this program.The show wouldn't be called "Killing Voice" it would be called "computerized vocal manipulation.") They debuted more than 12 years ago, so they have a lot of songs. You are only hearing a small fraction of them and only a few lines of each of the songs (And in some cases, they are singing lines from the middle of the song, so it may sound different when you listen to the actual song. And in this performance they are missing two members, so some of their parts in these songs were different than the original versions because they had to cover for the members who were unable to participate in this program.) This is a LIVE performance with 100% live vocals.
Plus, you should know by now that SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best singers in Kpop. You can't be an SM artist without being an amazing singer. So even the company's rappers receive intense vocal training. (Just look at EXO's Chanyeol on the far left and Sehun on the far right, who are both main rappers, and, yet, they each have amazing singing voices. How often do you see rappers that can sing as well as them?) All of SM's rappers could even fill in as main vocalists in their groups. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry. And what you are hearing is why EXO are nicknamed "the vocal kings of Kpop".
Another thing SM's artists and groups are known for is for being top tier when it comes to live vocals and perfect harmonies. SM artists are recognized for the fact that they all can sing live while performing intense choreography for hours in concert and still sound flawless the whole time. The company is known for having artists and groups who sound even better live than they do on their studio recordings, so that's why you really need to watch EXO's concert performances, because the songs are on a whole other level when they are live.
EXO is currently a 9-member group, however, there are only 7 members in this performance. From left to right: Chanyeol (main rapper and lead vocal), D.O. (main vocal), Suho (leader and lead vocal), Chen (main vocal), Xiumin (lead vocal, sub-rapper, and dancer), Baekhyun (main vocal) and Sehun (main rapper and main dancer). They have been doing this for more than 12 years now, and they hold concerts with more than 55,000 people in the audience and perform all over the world, so they all know exactly what they are doing.
"Growl" is sort of a love song, but it's not a love song in the traditional sense. It's definitely not mushy or sweet. If you look up the lyrics for "Growl," you will see they are pretty much acting like a wolf or beast that can no longer control themselves around the girl, and they are warning her to be careful because all she does is make them want to growl and grab her and possess her, etc. "I’m warning you just in case (listen carefully)

"Growl" is literally the song that skyrocketed EXO into superstardom and it's now considered one of Korea's national anthems, if you have been a part of Kpop for any amount of time you most likely know this song It's part of Kpop culture and it's used everywhere. It was even one of the theme songs for the 2018 Winter Olympics. I mean it's one of the most covered songs by trainee groups and you can see and hear it being performed by people all over the place. "Growl" is the song that EXO are most known for.
"Sing For You" came out in 2015 and it is literally, as the title says, EXO singing to EXO-Ls (EXO's fans). This song has an MV and it's all part of EXO's storyline. This song was released after 3 of their Chinese members left the group, so it's also a promise and apology song to EXO-Ls.
As you just saw, "Miracles in December" is a song that is only sung by EXO's three main vocalists, Chen, Baekhyun and D.O. However, you will see all the EXO members in the MV because it tells another part of EXO's story.
There is no MV for "The Eve" because it's a B-side track. However, it's the B-side song that they promoted with, along with their lead track "Ko Ko Bop," so they have a dance practice video for the song you will have to check out. "The Eve" is one of their most iconic songs and performances.
EXO debuted in 2012 with their song "Mama." When you watch that MV and get to know EXO better, you will understand why D.O. was making jokes and they were all laughing when he introduced "Mama." EXO's debut and group concept is unlike anything you have ever seen before and "Mama" is one of the most epic debut songs and MVs ever created. This is the song and MV that explains EXO's entire storyline and concept. If you are ever going to understand anything about EXO you have to watch BOTH their EXO-K and EXO-M versions of their "Mama" MVs.
"Overdose" is about overdosing on love like a drug and been trapped within a maze, so the sound of the song is supposed to be disorienting because you are supposed to feel like they are being brainwashed and unable to find their way out, etc.
As the English lines in "Monster" say ... They're "Creeping, Creeping, Creeping .... Creeping in your heart babe" "You can call me Monster (because) I'm creeping in your heart babe." "She got me goin' crazy." The song's called "Monster," so the words are about acting like a monster: "Don't be afraid, love is the way ... I'm sorry, you make me sooo craaaazzzy, you know you dooooo." The song is about how they know they are bad for the person that they are in a relationship with, and they will most likely ruin them if that person stays with them. In the song, they are talking about how, I know that when we are over that I will have destroyed everything that is good about you, but I don't care because I want you so much that it doesn't matter to me. Therefore, it's good that "you can call me monster" because they are being straight forward and warning you from the very beginning, so you can't say you were blindsided by their actions.
"The First Snow" is a B-side song on one of their winter albums (They have more than one winter/holiday album). The song is about the magic of the first snowfall of the season and how it's the perfect atmosphere to fall in love. This song is so popular that you can hear it being played all over the place in Korea on the first day it snows, and it's pretty much considered a winter anthem that gets played nonstop all season long, especially around the holidays.
EXO's "Power" was also used as one of the theme songs, along with their song "Growl," during the 2018 winter Olympics. EXO even performed both songs during the closing ceremony. As "the nation's boy group," EXO was the only Kpop group to be selected to perform at the Olympics. If you like the sound of "Power" in this video, just wait until you see their live concert performance of the remixed version of the song. You should check out their "Diamond" + "Coming Over" + "Run This" + "Drop That" + "Power" set at their EXOPLANET #4 The ElyXiOn in Seoul in 2017.
"Cream Soda" is their most recent song at the time, and the whole reason why they were on Dingo's Killing Voice was to promote this song and album, which is why the performed the whole song.
