Joel, great video. You are such a find with all your tips. You remind me of my dad, he was also a handyman and knew all this stuff. I miss him so much.
Another tip if you're keeping the boards, mark them all on the underside so you know which room and wall they will be going back on e.g. spare room window :)
If you plant to reuse the trim. I might have suggested that you number or label the trim pieces as you remove them. When putting them back, it is very helpful and sometimes it will be easier to go up in reverse order depending on how they fit together.
What’s the best material to use for trim? We had termite swarmers in the past(not regular termites. They don’t make a permanent home out of your home) and they ate up the base boards. I am not sure if I should replace it with real wood or the other kind. Any recommendations?
I don't know anything about termite swarmers, but if they ate up the baseboards, I wouldn't know why they wouldn't eat up the structural timbers as well. Before bothering with baseboards, I would recommend making sure the home is completely impregnable to termites, and second, completely eradicating them inside. Then you could worry about baseboards. I mean, plastic baseboards do exist, but I'd be far more worried about the pillars and beams.
These videos are awesome! My wife’s been watching your family for years and told me I should check this out. We’ve been renovating an old century home and making videos too! If you are bored one day check out my channel, it’s been a good time. Also this tool is key. I wish I knew about it before I destroyed all of the trim in my current place
Why am I just now learning the nail trick-thank you!!!
Joel...you make me want to buy a house to renovate it just from watching your videos!
I love this channel, it reminds me of working alongside my dad my whole childhood! 💜
