I can't imagine losing 47 years of your life for a crime you didn't commit. How does someone who is exonerated get compensated for the year's of their life they lost because, of a wrongful conviction? As a Black man, to hear "You fit the description" that is one my biggest fears in life. Knowing how racially biased the judicial system is, and being wrongfully accused, convicted, and imprisoned for a crime I sure as hell didn't commit.
This continued disgrace is outrageous.. God bless all the innocent Black men that these horrible acts of injustice are continuing to happen too..Worse, I don't believe there are any laws on the books that compensate for these disgusting continued acts of injustice.
@jenetwaldenmills8643 from only 1 minute of research, (so please don't take this as the only information available) I found yes there are federal and state laws that compensate people convicted Unjustly! I also found there are "limitations" (the word I'm choosing to use to describe the below statement I found) -And the way I am (me personally) understanding the below is they probably have to prove it, which is so gosh darn ridiculous...I'm also just assuming if you proved to a court and were exonerated then that should be proof enough to receive compensation - again not sure but below is part of what I found. Yes, there are laws that compensate people who are wrongfully convicted, including Black men. The federal government and many states have laws that provide compensation for wrongful convictions. Federal compensation The federal government provides a minimum of $50,000 per year of incarceration for wrongful convictions The federal government also provides additional compensation for each year spent on death row State compensation Many states have laws that provide compensation for wrongful convictions The amount of compensation varies by state The process for receiving compensation can take years Examples of state compensation North Carolina: Exonerated people who are pardoned by the governor receive $50,000 for each year they spent in prison, up to a maximum of $750,000 Organizations that advocate for compensation NAACP: Advocates for a national Innocent Inmate Compensation Act Innocence Project: Works to ensure that people who are wrongfully convicted receive compensation
It's so sad to learn this injustice existed back then, but sadder, that it still exists today. I'm sorry for what you endured, and may God bless you always.
It exists today because the same systemic powers that enabled slavery still exist and continue to profit from slave labor especially in mass incarceration.
My law abiding Uncles, male Cousins and friends have all been stopped with 'you fit the description' over the years...20+ years later, they stopped my Son while he was on the train coming home from Junior High School. Thank God one of his Teachers was on the train, got off and told them he just left school.
The racism in America is horrific. Can you imagine the number of African Americans that have previously been put to death unjustified? 'God help us😞🙏🏽😞🙏🏽😞
I'm so sorry this happened to you. The police and everyone involved in this wrongful conviction should be held accountable. They need to be sent to prison!! God bless you 🙏 ❤️
I can't imagine I am glad Mr Mack is home now he lost 47 years of his life in jail that is so sad and not right at all he didn't do it at all it was someone else I am glad Mr Mack and his son are together I am glad his son did forgive him Mr Mack we love you
Leonard just seeing this. What a testimony and I began to pray for you and others that God will turn around what the enemy means for evil to destroy and kill to tear down the people of color in this country and in this whole world for good, not for evil and give each one of you and them I hope in the future that the enemy will have to pay back, sevenfold everything that he robbed from you and from others like yourself thank you for sharing and may God continue to bless and keep you, and I pray that your latter years will be greater than your former years for God‘s glory for God‘s namesake and for you.🫶🙏🏽💜
Everyone please consider donating to the innocent project they are the most legitimate even if it's $5 per month tell everyone that up to 10% of the prison population is wrongfully incarcerated
Mannn I couldn’t even imagine what it could feel like to go through that and the most amazing thing is for this people to walk away from and still be good and genuine cause if I sat in prison for 10 years hell even 5 let alone over 40 for something I didn’t do I would become the person they though I was through anger and resentment for the world god bless Mr. Mack in this life and after ❤️❤️
Why GOD????? Book of Revelations! We as BLACKS need to come TOGETHER I bet things would be definitely DIFFERENT….. My FAITH is so STRONG that one day I’ll see US ALL TOGETHER 🙏🏽
We all bleed, we all get thirsty, we all have heartbroken moments, we all have lost loved ones. Stop allowing governments creating racism, this side that side, this color that color. Jesus died that any that call on him shall be saved. No man above or below the other. In fact Jesus said if you wanna be first place yourself last. Thank you for your service my battle brother.

This is really sad how anyone could be so cruel to send anyone to prison for something they didn't do.😢😢😢😢😢😅May God continues to bless you and your family...
God bless you your family. I'm so sorry for what you have gone through😢. "You fit the description" This is code for "we will take you" "you'll do". My sons were driving home from work one night about 2:00 in the morning. The police followed them to the house. I'm waiting till they came in. Then in proceeded to beat on the door and wake up the whole house. And they called them out and their dad went out with them. And they said they had a garage broken into and that these boys fit the description. We found out later that my sons looked nothing like the description given of the other men. These things break my heart. The God is watching. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Terrible system!! They should NOT get compensation or any extra raises if they get a conviction!! It makes it where so many people are wrongly convicted & punished for crimes they didn’t commit!!! The system is SOOOO flawed!!!!! Its not just a # its a life!! SMFH 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
God bless you I apologize for your loss of your daughter I hate and thank God that you out and I hate the fact that you was locked up in the first place and what's sad is when you were young and that was happening and it still happening today and that's what made me a freedom fighter again and start taking a toll on me till I just stopped started hating being in this country knowing how we contribute to everything in and of this country and to still be treated less than 2nd class citizens thank God for you and your son coming together and now you have your grandson third generation stay blessed enjoy your life to the fullest thank YOU for YOUR service and Welcome home

Thank God. I am very sorry to hear that
My deepest heart felt emotions. 47 years of injustice of a wrongful crime. I thank all who worked hard for his release. 💙
“You fit the description.” The 3 word description that’s been an unjust death sentence for so many.
Very true, and of such a thoroughly arbitrary and unverifiable claim of proof.
The racism in America is horrific. Can you imagine the number of African Americans that have previously been put to death unjustified? 'God help us😞🙏🏽😞🙏🏽😞
There’s no way to fathom 😢
@@varree6198 Yeah, there's 400 years worth.

Our God is Awesome! This story and others like it needs to be told. It’s sad that this is happening.
Think about it. If there was an actual god, this wouldn't have happened in the first place.
Thank you for sharing ❤ Beautiful story Mr. Mack. Rest in Peace to your daughter and congratulations on being exonerated.
