To clarify: I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with milled keys - in fact it wouldn’t be possible to laser cut this type of key (not the actual slot, anyway) as laser cutters can’t reliably cut to a certain depth. It’s engraving or all the way through the material.

Fantastic just received one of these locks and have been trying to pick it and watched this video and picked about as quick as you absolutely brilliant
First time i opened one of these slider locks was when i'd left the keys to a bike i had locked into the back of my truck 2 hours away at home. It was July in Florida, not exactly ideal conditions, and it took me 20-30 minutes to get it because I spent 15-20 minutes picking the wrong side of the lock.
I have a very similar OnGuard lock (the bigger version). It took me a lot of time to get the right feeling and choose the suitable tensioning tool+right amount of tension. But after 30 min I could finally open it. Btw, it was the third lock I have ever picked (first and second being transparent and 2$ 4 pin locks, respectively). Thus, I confirm: no skill required. I hope OnGuard is already changing their design. Thank you for the video!
30 mins is a ridiculous amount of time to spend trying to unlock a bike lock and absolutely no bike thief is going to stand there for 30 mins trying to pick open a bike lock.
I just picked my first lock!!! I ordered the Dangerfield Praxis kit as well as the Ultimate challenge lock. But while I wait for those, I created a makeshift pick and a tension wrench from wiper inserts. Bought a cheap lock at Harbour Freight and picked it while sitting in my car!!!! So awesome!!!

None of these bike lock quasi-insurance money-back promises are worth anything. It's a marketing technique. Try getting any money out of them and you're in for a rough ride.
That's pretty standard for bike lock 'guarantees'. It's reasonable in some respects, nothing is going to stop an angle grinder and the broken lock acts as some kind of proof of theft. And yes most are pretty tricky to actually reclaim on.

Well because picking takes up to about 2 minutes at times while cutters take just under 20 seconds at most. Huge difference. I've watched so many videos to see the best locks for my bikes and yeah bolt cutters do it within either 5 to 20 seconds. Honestly 20 seconds is someone who doesn't know what they're doing. Picking takes a much longer time.
Watching this technique, I wonder if you could use something round like a thick piece of piano wire (possibly even a large paper clip) and just rake it side to side in the lock...
I'm pretty sure like other companies, they have a clause about their locks getting picked open, saying they're not responsible, and it has to be forced entry...
Hey guys I have a quick question for the community. I'm disabled and I've found lock sport to be very helpful actually for gaining dexterity etc so I've been trying to get into it more and more. However with a very set income acquiring new practice locks etc can be difficult. You could buy one of those repinnable practice locks and sets of various pins so you can create locks with increasing difficulty for yourself. People also sell locks with no key for low prices on ebay.

I think folk like bill and lpl can lose track of quite how good they are sometimes! 🙂 (Eg when lpl rather begrudgingly concedes that a 6 disc core that took him 30s and a custom tool to open is 'probably good enough for the street'). It's a pity these locks are weaker than they should be but ultimately if I have £30 max to spend on a u lock and it's an onguard brute Vs a kryptonite Evo I'll take the brute because it stands up to 48" croppers and the 12mm Evo doesn't. If you really need to leave a bike that's more likely to get stolen outside then you need to be looking up at the kryptonite m18 or abus 540 kind of range as a minimum. Or a good chain which are harder to attack with grinders.
How are chains ever a good idea? Chain is as strong as its weakest point. And those links are significantly thinner than U-locks. Which means that a thief doesn't need to make a lot of noise with a grinder. Just slowly work at clipping it quietly.
